What happened to the February Free rolls for referring others? At first it was supposed to be a daily $3000 a day thing which was awesome. Then you stopped doing that to put up a PGA free roll that was five days out. Now the next one in the lobby is not for another 8 days in the NBA. Why the change in that? Will that be the last one of the month? Seems like everyone will jam those tickets into it making it a lot less valuable for the person who did a good job referring. Yes I get that it increased to $10k but why change it mid month? 8 days times $3000 does not equal $10,000. Feel bad for those holding on tickets. Yes it is great that you offer those incentives but not cool to tell people one thing and then change it up on them. And will that one on 2-27 be the last one of the month?

    DraftKings Rep

We did not advertise that the 3k would run every day throughout February. We did advertise for a period of time that the current February freeroll option was a daily 3k freeroll. After the daily 3k freerolls ended we switched to a larger freeroll every few days.

Details of the promotion have been available at the bottom of the Feb Freerolls page here : https://www.draftkings.com/lp/raf-february-freerolls

Finally, the 27th will not be our last freeroll in February. We also have one planned on the 28th.

at the beginning i for sure saw “everyday this month” written

  • einars

well the email they sent out was titled “play a freeroll every day in february”

and the email said “Invite your friends and family to join and play on DraftKings and you both receive FREE entry into our daily $3,000 Freerolls! This offer runs all February long so don’t miss a freeroll!”

so you can technically say that doesnt state the daily freerolls last all month (just the offer for a free freeroll ticket lasts all month)….it is at least a little misleading

edit: yeah the email really makes it look like there would be daily freerolls all feb

  • jerrykarpf

Yeah everyone who reads that emails says oh wow a daily free roll in February. Sounds like a reneg.
Which is a shame and disappointment. While yes it is nice these offers are put out there and DK does not have to do it, it probably hurts them in the long run with new player retention.

I don’t get why they go to the bigger $10k freeroll. Come next Friday you are going to have about 1000 or so people jammed into it over the next 8 days. It pays to 100 spots. I would imagine if I ran a site I would want new players to have a better shot at winning if I am offering these free rolls. The $3k daily ones seemed to offer that. It gives them some confidence and some feeling good. Gives them some more money to play with. I believe that the daily version that went on the first two weeks usually had 150 or so people in them and paid to what 50 or 60 spots? That is a pretty good chance for a newbie who knows not much in the beginning to win. Even if it is just $5.

I think the more people cash the better it is for everyone. I don’t know why you need to have this top heavy freeroll where only a small percentage will win and many will lose. I imagine those that sign up and lose all their deposit are less likely to redeposit opposed to someone who signs up wins a couple times and loses their money. This stinks for the referrers who were under the assumption it was every day which it was for the first two weeks and held on to tickets.

Curious to know why the change on this? But I think it really stinks for the community as these new players are less likely to win in the free roll and probably less likely to redeposit and be long term players if they blow out. Don’t understand the logic. Why put it out there and then change it mid month with some verbage explanation. Shame things are never fully transparent.

  • jerrykarpf

Plus the email that was sent out on February 2nd in the afternoon announcing this also had the green logo box that screamed out “3K EVERY DAY” No where in the email does it mention the terms and the link to the refer a friend page actually redirects to the affiliate page not the “verbage” page.

    WEAK SAUCE.

  • vikings101

The reason this is so upsetting is because this is blatant lies. These aren’t “freerolls” as in a normal every day freeroll that anyone can enter. You have to 1) refer a new user. 2) That user has to put money into their account. It is an incentive. DraftKings promised something and is failing to deliver.

What’s worse: The DraftKings rep just lied and said they didn’t say “every day”… unfortunately for you I actually save things like this

can you please explain… the biggest words on the whole ads are “EVERY DAY

  • dfskehd

OY! Seems you did. Not that i buy the “should be for everybody” argument, but “every day” is not vague.

Seems simple enough to fix. Do the math, couple 6K days and Fatal eats his hat.

This is directly from our February Freerolls page:

Offer expires at 6:00 p.m. EST February 28th, 2015. This promotion is governed by the DraftKings Refer-A-Friend program terms and conditions. New referred players MUST click on your personal referral link to qualify. Participant tracking can be seen on your personal Refer-A-Friend page. Freeroll value is paid out in DK Dollars. Freerolls will be live to enter every day but may not have a daily start date. Players are eligible for this promotion for up to 10 freeroll entries per day. Other restrictions apply. Click here for details.

We had planned to run these freerolls in many sports over the course of the month. In the beginning we ran a 3k freeroll every day. Once NBA went on ASB we went to hockey and then 10k freerolls in other sports.

So the ’3k Every Day’ slogan is akin to Taco Bell’s ‘Seasoned Beef’ slogan. Good to be informed at some point along the way at least.

To be fair, the February Freeroll page is not the same page that was up earlier in the month. That is clear as it now shows a 10k freeroll.

I just don’t get how “$3k every day”, which was heavily advertised, can suddenly be changed. I know the February Freeroll page was updated as the image has changed, I don’t know about the text. Luckily I usually screenshot various contest for this reason.

another screenshot I have of it saying “$3k EVERY DAY” http://imgur.com/8mZLzpq

I guess if you had the terms before hand that’s fine, but it’s still bad way to advertise this type of thing. You don’t advertise $3k Every Day if that’s not going to happen.

Also FatalError, you make it sound like the $10k freeroll and the freeroll on the 28th will be the last two (maybe I am wrong and more will pop up), but if that is the case, the $10k freeroll is on the 27th, which is like 8 days from the previous one. Shouldn’t that contest be worth $24k (8 days X $3k (AS ADVERTISED) = $24k)… just sayin’

I do not recall seeing that disclaimer on the original page. Whether it was or not is for someone else to figure out. Who then is responsible for the mistake of the emails that went out that clearly stated “$3k every day” It is just in poor taste to run a promo and then give it back and change it mid month. Common sense dictates you were not getting the response you hoped for and decided to cut losses even though it is just draft king dollars and turned the conditions making all the emails sent out in early February incorrect. What I think irks people about this industry sometimes is the fact the transparency is awful. Stuff like this happens all the time and I am sure turns people off. Just like “100% sign up bonuses” piss people off after they realize it gets doled out in dribbles.

I am waiting for someone to throw in the Seinfeld youtube Indian Giver episode. This just reeks worse than Rusty in the Beefareeno episode.

Still wondering how $3k EVERY DAY is the same as $10k once a week

That image clearly says 3K everyday, pretty poor for a DK rep to come in here and blatantly lie about it but thats nothing new, remember the back pedal on that NFL email they sent after their site crashed?
