      2016 DraftKings FFWC Finalist

I sent DK an email that I wouldn’t be able to be at a live final because I have a newborn baby and wife at home, so it would be incredibly irresponsible to leave them alone. Their response was basically that if someone doesn’t show up, I would forfeit my prize and it doesn’t matter what my personal situation is. Does anyone have experience with this in the past, seems pretty messed up.

Live finals are obviously used as huge promotional opportunities for the sites so I can understand how they wouldn’t want someone to participate and win a huge prize and not be present. However things come up for anyone and I agree that it is pretty messed up as if something major like a new baby comes into play you should just get paid out for a last place finish vs. having to forfeit everything.

FD lets you proxy someone… When I was at the Basketball Final last year the person who came in 3rd was a proxy. Not sure of DKs policy though. Ask about sending someone in your place… you’ll still set the lineup.

They allow proxies – but none of my friends have a remote interest in DFS, so it’s a hard sell to get them to go to Miami when the ‘average’ result isn’t that spectacular money wise for a small chance at a big sum.

I have asked a similar question to DK last year. While I did not qualify for the live MLB final, it was to take place on the day of my wedding. I wanted to know if I could send someone in my place. I wanted to know this information just to potentially save myself from entering any qualifiers for the live final. They did say I could send someone in my place but it was only myself who could adjust my lineup. This was last MLB season so you may just want to check with them to see if anything has changed.

I live close to Miami and would be willing to go in your place for the party! Ha! Shitty situation, but I totally understand having a family as priority.

Tell a family member or friend that they get a free trip to Miami or Key West. Doesn’t matter if they don’t like DFS. You set the lineup and they show up and drink and eat for free all weekend. Pretty good deal for them.

Let’s all feel sorry for you. How’s your FD program working these days that autoscoops every H2H matchup from every user under 10,000 lifetime contests? Be more aware of the contests you enter next time.

I honestly don’t feel bad for him. Within the rules when you enter on DK into a live qualifier it says you must be there to get the prize. Right in the rules. So now he’s complaining because he didn’t read the rules and wants a re-do.

In addition this is the same guy who openly admitted in a previous post (check his post history) that he did this elaborate credit card manipulation scheme on FD that allowed him to get a ton of CC points at once. It was apparently legal though. So look sometimes you bend the rules to help yourself like with the CC but not everyone is just willing to bend the rules for you. So don’t feel bad for him at all. Already very entitled (read his post history about his educational and job background – I won’t post it because it’s too long) and this would just be another entitlement if DK was willing to bend the rules just for him.

Is this post fine? I’m being very honest here. I don’t think I’m saying anything false here….please let me know if I am.

Don’t enter qualifiers for live finals if you can’t attend. Seems pretty straight-forward.

Weird – wasn’t looking for sympathy – was just wondering if anyone had previous experience and how to deal with it.

    Result: end up getting attacked.

    Welcome to RG forums.

I think people here are really missing the point. This isn’t a job where you need to show up to get paid. It’s a purely recreational event that we’re all paying lots and lots of money to the sites to participate in. Can they force you to ignore personal responsibilities, or else they can pocket the money if you can’t show up?

This started a few years back at Draftstreet’s last NFL Live Final before they merged with Draftkings, and the winner was not there. So sites put rules in place about being present or having a proxy. It is in their best interest to have someone present. Find a proxy. I am sure there are many here who will work out a legitimate business arrangement.

I smell something fishy here. #1 This guy “STR8_CASH_HOMIES” isn’t listed amongst the live final qualifiers on the DK page for the Miami live final. And this list includes the guy who won the qualifier on the Sun/Mon slate last night. #2 His profile badges include multiple entries for last year’s DK football live final. And yet he has no idea how it works in terms of being present at the event? I could be wrong, but the OP might be up to something shady here. If I am mistaken, my sincere apologies and I’ll reflect my mistake by editing this post. So when did you qualify for the Miami live final and in what contest?

EDIT: I was completely wrong. He qualified for the Pick Em championship. I didn’t even know they have a live final. My apologies, I was completely and utterly wrong and hope the situation works out. I could come over and look after your family for you…… That’s a lighthearted attempt at humor.

He qualified for the pickem. Probably why he said the average sum isn’t significant…

Look first of all I’m going to assume everything you are saying is true. I’m never sure on that given the past history but I’ll give you the benefit of the doubt.

I’m not attacking you. I’m just saying that the rules or rules. Yes perhaps it might not make perfect sense in your mind that you have to show up. However that’s not what the DK rules said when you entered into the contest. There’s a reason why they have the rules the way they are. Yes they can make you ignore your personal responsibilities…this is a private company if you want their money they want your time?

Also you mentioned you came for advice on what to do and not complain or have others feel bad for you. Yet your posts here totally disagree with that statement. You are trying to argue why the rule is unfair in your posts.

Finally I brought up the CC example you mentioned in the past because it applies here. You were perfectly fine bending the rules as long as it’s legal for your own benefit. Why can’t you follow the rules set by someone else which is clearly to their benefit (for exposure reasons for them you show up)? That’s why I say things like entitled. Get my point? The rules don’t just apply for one person. I bet a lot of people who are working full time jobs also don’t want to show up and would prefer to do it at home too. That’s setting a terrible precedent if they just let you not show up.

Seems like the perfect opportunity to treat your wife to a nice trip after having a baby. The terms allow for 1 guest.

Look I guarantee this post wouldn’t be here if he qualified into the bigger Final.

It’s the same reason why DK made the hockey and NBA finals the same week. Otherwise a lot of people wouldn’t show up for hockey. Money talks. And when it’s not that much utility to go, you find excuses even though the rules say otherwise.

I would agree that it would be an easier sell to my wife if I had > 300k in equity like I did last year. But I intentionally didn’t do that this year for this very reason. I think you’re missing the point. No matter how much equity I have at stake, I would rather be at home with my family but to each his own. I went the past two years but now have a baby, so find it really difficult to justify.

No you see I agree with you. I would too. Heck if I didn’t even have a wife and kids I wouldn’t want to go either. Why would I waste a weekend for 5-10k equity if I could do the same at home? But that’s not what the rules say so you gotta understand why they have the rules the way they are.

Just ask firemedic. I’m positive he can just go for you. Your solution has been found on this forum. Just give him like say 5% of winnings or something or make some deal. I think that’s fair.

Dude this is very simple. You have someone who is already attending act as your proxy. Just hit someone up on twitter.
