Just got an e-mail about this. Also giving players multiple position eligibility.

Who wants to stay up all day/night staring at Fibonnaci and charts and other market indicators?
Who wants to grind a half dozen multi table poker tournaments online and study the game when they’re not playing. I do!
Yet everyone wants to make the money and do it with the least amount of effort. That attitude is one of the major things wrong with this country.
    Atta boy DK! Reward laziness

But it isn’t all about you and what you like or want.

It has nothing to do with effort or laziness. You and many others here have lost sight of the fact that for the majority of players this is entertainment, a distraction or a way to make an otherwise meaningless game have meaning.. They want to throw a few bucks in, make a lineup, and go on with their lives while checking in. Would they like to win money, of course, but they can’t or aren’t going to put the time in to do hard core research. Again, this is the majority of players, not the vocal minority here.

The sites want the perception of fairness and a level playing field. One way to accomplish that is don’t make people feel they need to be obligated to stay up until late lock if they want to have that level playing field. The second people don’t think they are being entertained and they have no shot of winning the industry is in trouble, the politicians will jump on that sentiment, and it is game over.

After reading this thread… I have realized that apparently only sharks play on DK, but FD is slot machine players? Actually feel the shark to noob ratios seems equal on both. But the sky is falling. My bad. Think Notorious had some good points about this topic on twitter. As well as Dan Back. And Adam Levitan. And just about all the other writers on DFS. Odd that they all don’t see the sky falling. FWIW, they do pose arguments on both sides

It couldn’t be because they have an interest in the success of DFS, could it? Dan was also the one saying initially not to worry about the scripting, grabbing of head to heads immediately….. and many other issues that all turned out to be true.

^^^^^you are absolutely right. Demarcus Cousins was 25 % owned in plenty of leagues on both sites. Even with late swap on DK people still didn’t bother to take him out. The amount of casual almost careless players far out number the serious players.

  • ngurob

Cousins just cost me big because I could not swap him late, 40 points behind.

Guys I am not trying to take either side just offering my experience. I play NBA DFS at a decent volume each night for the past 3 to 4 years on FanDuel with NO Late Swap and honestly I have only been burned 3 to 4 times that I can remember. Mainly by Kevin Love while he was still in Minnesota just randomly sitting out. It really never affects me, I guess I def play the risk vs reward a little bit if a guy is a game time call you just have to fade him and wait and play him in your late night lineups.

Once again I am not trying to take sides, I can understand why people are upset, I am just simply giving my experience playing a high volume on FanDuel it has never really hurt me. Hopefully everyone will continue to play and get used to it and no one will have much bad luck with late scratches for no reason.

having to fade high risk players, lowers the number of different combinations people can pick from. Mr Davis is pretty much a permanent Questionable. and the whole Spurs roster is unplayable.

Exactly…they should just have one big $3 tourney a night for no late swaps…..For all the people that enjoy the lottery

Like others have said, it’s not just about a late scratch being a player you rostered…..As team news comes out it creates new value plays and GPP strategy comes in to play depending on how your team is doing at the time

This is just a whole new game….and it sucks

You mean a game like where everyone picks a roster at the same time and compete to see who scores the most points? Sounds like fantasy sports to me.

  • rebkell

Only NBA, how nice. They gonna change all sports or just NBA?

  • Petergunz82

Fair points…except the level playing field part. We all have access to the same info, it’s whether or not you want to put in the effort

  • teezy1350

Boogie late scratch killed me, I would have won EVERY tourny I have 250 with Blake CP3 at the half and Boogie 0 lol

But it’s still fair. They had access to the info and did nothing with it. This is penalizing the people who choose to put the effort in

How many nights in a row with a late scratch would it take you to quit DFS? Nothing ruins a night like a fuckin zero in your line ups. Draftkings needs to get off their asses and provide information via their app about players sitting and starting when the info is released. Not cut corner with this backwards decision. If they monitor for the players it takes seconds to swap guys in and out. They can push that info out to our phones and it would be easy to monitor as a player. #NoZerosForEveryone

Yahoo now has contests posted for the 1st two days of regular season. Maybe trying to lure some disgruntled DK ‘ers with this timing?

Since when did high risk players become a “fade” on FD?

  • tvsfrink

For every 10 players that are pissed about this, there is 1 that is happy about it, probably just to be contrarian because that’s what DFSers do.

Or maybe it was because of the reasons they gave?

FWIW, I was fine with late swap on DK because I could just ignore DK and play FD. I do feel bad for you guys who had that option taken away. I know I’d be pissed if it went the other way and FD added late swap, so I get it.

  • Gfry3

Here is my thing to the guy who says “i want to just relax and enjoy the games without worrying about late scratch and swapping” THEN DONT! No one is making anyone else watch their lineups, if you wanted to set a DK lineup and not look all night that was 100% no issue. Why are the people who like to do that penalized? As someone said above THIS IS WHAT MAKES DK DK! I can personally say that I would not enjoy watching a Warriors game if I played KD and 5 min after lock he is scratched and I am stuck, I would be more upset than anything. Also I think this will hurt some casual players who do a Dean78904, hey there is only 1 game at 6 and the rest go at 630, I get home from my day job at 545 I will punt game 1 and get 30 min more research in before the last set of games. Now that is gone. This absolutely destroys people who play 1-10 lineups a night. Incase DK wasn’t aware the biggest draws in the NBA are the Spurs/Cavs/Warriors who have all openly said they will sit random guys this year, and 2 of those teams happen to play on the west coast, or about 3 hours after lineup lock. Even if they come out 2 hours early and say player x is out tough we already missed that deadline. I honestly am still shocked they did this.

  • SouthernShield

Pretty sure this will benefit Yahoo the most as they seem to have late swap…..

  • KingSolomon

Could DK have some contests with Late Swap and some without, making nature if contest clear in the title and searchable?

That’s just a dumb way to look at it…..We already get zero’s the old way because people either don’t care, are lazy, or don’t research properly

I missed a few last season but I only had myself to blame which I can live with

Seeing a player I have in 10 lineups get scratched at 7:05 for no apparent reason will make me go crazy….how could it not?

Of course it will..but more often than not, you will not have that player in your lineup, and it will help you.

    Hey Guys,

I wanted to share a little more on our reasoning for removing late-swap for NBA

I think late-swap was initially viewed by many new and casual customers as a necessary safe guard against a last-minute “scratch,” which has made late-swap a very popular feature for DraftKings over the past few years. While late-swap can help prevent the poor experience of getting a zero in your lineup, there are other uses for the feature which ultimately require users to monitor news and scramble to make last-minute adjustments to their lineups up until tip-off of the last game of the night. For example, often times a late scratch will result in other players becoming valuable picks. So now you are not only monitoring your own players to make sure they are not scratched; you actually should be monitoring all NBA news to capitalize on any new value picks that might transpire while players are still eligible to be swapped.

We know that there will be customers that are not happy with this decision. However, we have increasingly received feedback from players who have decreased their play or even stopped playing completely because they want to “actually enjoy watching the NBA.” We do see the value of late-swap and there are no plans of removing it for other sports, but for NBA specifically, it has become clear that the amount of extra time and energy required to compete as a result of late-swap functionality is taking too much away from the enjoyment of the game.

    -Mark

I played NBA almost exclusively on DK because of late swap. At least half my volume will be going to other sites now. Hope other high volume players do the same. Being required to put in effort doesn’t make a game unfair.

Let’s say John works for a company with his friend Bill. John put’s in long hours and does the extra work. Bill show’s up late, leaves early, but does just enough to get his reports (lineup) in. It’s promotion time and John is excited! The boss calls John and Bill into the office and says “I think it would be unfair to reward one of you and not the other, it’s just not a level playing field.”

In life, hard work should pay off and should be rewarded. We’re slowly moving further away from that and the game of skill we all were once so happy to chant.

I still don’t understand why they are doing this

The better players are still going to swallow up the rec players over time and it will still take just as much research…just before the games start instead of being staggered

NBA and Soccer need to have a late swap OPTION (option…for all the people that apparently complained to DK it is an option) just by nature.

Football Baseball and Hockey you have a very good idea who is playing that day so I could live with getting rid of late swap in those sports…but basketball is just crazy to me

There really is no good argument that I can come up with as to why they would take away this OPTION

I think a much better solution would be to add 2 max switches a night or adding a few no late swap tournies for the cry babies

  • kratos12

I’m fully committed to playing on yahoo for nba or not play it at all. Because it is very frustrating to end up with a 0 in a lineup after doing reserearch. Maybe they should have the utility spot changeable at least
