Just got an e-mail about this. Also giving players multiple position eligibility.

  • AxeGrinder

So the places that still have late-swap are draftpot, yahoo, and draft day?

  • JustDFSin

Only in DFS do people accept a zero virtually killing all lineups like it is no big deal. If you paid money to go to a game or the movies and it’s cancelled do you just take it as a loss and pay for more movie tickets? Nobody is forcing players on DK to stay up all night to change lu’s.

    Why can’t I type out y a h o o

    Doesn’t Yahoo have late-swap?

    From yahoo

Lineup edits are permitted for any athlete in your lineup before that particular athlete’s scheduled game time, but only if that athlete is being swapped for another athlete whose scheduled game time has also not yet passed.

This reminds of the Sub position on StarsDraft. Do they even exist anymore? No late swap with a sub position was perfect. If you did get a zero it made up for it and if one of your players tanked hard or got hurt it could help lessen the blow.

I suggested this earlier on. Stars draft had by far the best NBA product, for this reason and it wasn’t even close. You didn’t have to be by your computer all night, you essentially got 9 players and your top 8 counted toward your final score. It accounted for late scratches, in game injuries, terrible performances, etc. it also allowed for another element of skill/ strategy where you could place a min price player in ur lineup knowing he might get no points, hence freeing up more salary for your other 8 players, yet your accepting the risk of getting burned if you happen to get late scratch. This solution could truly make everyone happy. I hope DK finds their way to this approach.

The better players are still going to swallow up the rec players over time and it will still take just as much research…just before the games start instead of being staggered

This is a good point. It may take even more research and planning now, and once these whiners figure that out and start getting a 0 or two in their LU’s then they’ll start whining about it still being too hard to win.

If nobody wants late swap, why are they leaving late swap in play for every other sport except the NBA? Head scratcher.

Obviously a lot of people want late swap.

NBA is the sport where one is forced to play close attention to news throughout the evening to compete at a high level.

Of course, it still makes sense to pay attention to news in all of the other sports, but the impact for the others is less significant (outside of big NFL news such as when a starting RB, etc., is declared inactive).

that said, people need to stop using examples from pre-season games as evidence that this change is a mistake.

It seems most people are using regular season as an example while mentioning recent pre-season experiences like last night. I won’t play pre-season just because you have no clue who is going to play.

For those that keep saying getting a zero on a late scratch is just from poor study habits, well that’s just foolish or you haven’t played much NBA DFS. It happens all the time where a team is playing a late game on the West coast and have to fly out that night or the next morning and a random star will take the night off for rest and you won’t know about until game time.

The DFS community has been arguing and fighting with legislators regarding the distinction between gambling and game of skill. No late swap makes it more of a risk (also known as gambling).

Yahoo has posted lineups for the first game of regular season. They have a similar roster layout to DK. PG, SG, SF, PF, C, G, F , UTIL

no double double or triple double bonus. And no extra .5 for 3’s

Slight correction: we do have .5 point extra for 3’s: https://sports.yahoo.com/dailyfantasy/help/nba/rules.

That’s fine with me. I honestly hate full slate tournaments and try to stick to smaller ones. I’d prefer it broken up. But that’s just me. Just break up all the slates into 3 or 4 games max and I’d be happy. Trying to navigate a 14 game NBA night is just ludicrous. Why bother? You can play the late slate only with usually 3 games for around half of the total pool of the main slate but which is still a pretty big pot.

Honestly I don’t really like DK’s pay structure so I haven’t been playing there much at all so this really makes no difference to me.

It’s rare that I do a late swap, but I don’t like having it gone. But why just NBA?

yep, feel the same way. People supposedly reached out, yada yada yada, and so with two weeks before the season starts we’re going to make major changes, why not do this change before the season started. I mean surely it wasn’t some hair trigger response or something was it?

i was reading on reddit there are rumblings that draft kings and fan duel are merging? draft kings is making their site the same as fan duel to set up the merger.

Checked out Yahoo DFS today for the first time solely because of this decision. Would actually play there if the GPPs had a little higher payout. Is it just me or is Yahoo built around the casual player since most of the tournaments I see you can only enter 5 times?

We limit multi-entry to no more than 1% of total entries, up to a max of 10—but the majority of our contests are single entry anyway: https://help.yahoo.com/kb/SLN26031.html.

  • tsteeves

Hey Daniel will Canadians be able to play money contests at some point and whats the reasoning for Canadians being excluded?

I just don’t see the point in limiting entries if it’s just going to reduce the guaranteed payouts, even though I do love single entry tournaments too.

EDIT to add: It is nice to see a rep from a site come here and post and then not run away after he realizes people aren’t happy with his canned generic response. Then stick around for follow up responses.

    Hey Guys,

I wanted to share a little more on our reasoning for removing late-swap for NBA

I think late-swap was initially viewed by many new and casual customers as a necessary safe guard against a last-minute “scratch,” which has made late-swap a very popular feature for DraftKings over the past few years. While late-swap can help prevent the poor experience of getting a zero in your lineup, there are other uses for the feature which ultimately require users to monitor news and scramble to make last-minute adjustments to their lineups up until tip-off of the last game of the night. For example, often times a late scratch will result in other players becoming valuable picks. So now you are not only monitoring your own players to make sure they are not scratched; you actually should be monitoring all NBA news to capitalize on any new value picks that might transpire while players are still eligible to be swapped.

We know that there will be customers that are not happy with this decision. However, we have increasingly received feedback from players who have decreased their play or even stopped playing completely because they want to “actually enjoy watching the NBA.” We do see the value of late-swap and there are no plans of removing it for other sports, but for NBA specifically, it has become clear that the amount of extra time and energy required to compete as a result of late-swap functionality is taking too much away from the enjoyment of the game.

    -Mark

while you care about opening your platform up to these fan duel players, you are alienating your existing audience.

Draftkings was my site because of late swap. Why would I choose you over the competitors now?

I am currently very unhappy with this decision, if late swap is not reinstated, I will move to Fanduel for the NBA. Out of protest.

I played every day on your product last year.

  • automahn

I’d really appreciate having a site that allows late swaps.

If we all REALLY WANT to make an impression on DK as to our displeasure about this change, we should all follow this example. Otherwise we are telling them that we are just a bunch of pussy-assed lemmings who will follow no matter what. That’s what they are counting on….. and likely for good reason…..because they don’t believe we are serious enough to bail. We’re all hooked and will still donate blindly no matter what the rules may be, and no matter who they may favor. Screw that shit. Even if you bail for the rest of the preseason it could have an impact. So if you aren’t pissed enough to move for good, could you please at least do that?

This sounds like the normal vocal minority, it’s hard to believe the big boys with the deep pockets that really put in the extra time really wanted this change.

I was a somewhat high volume player on DK NBA. I will never play NBA on that site again until late swap is reinstated. risking hundreds of dollars and having a legit chance of someone being scratched and not being able to do anything about it is not worth my time or energy. Its the reason I never played on fanduel. Now out of spite when i get the itch to play NBA ill just play at fanduel. What a horseshit decision
