Just got an e-mail about this. Also giving players multiple position eligibility.

I was a somewhat high volume player on DK NBA. I will never play NBA on that site again until late swap is reinstated. risking hundreds of dollars and having a legit chance of someone being scratched and not being able to do anything about it is not worth my time or energy. Its the reason I never played on fanduel. Now out of spite when i get the itch to play NBA ill just play at fanduel. What a horseshit decision

I’m with you. I started my DFS career on Fanduel, got burnt a few times by late scratches and heard DK has a feature to help you dodge that. Moved my action over to DK and haven’t looked back since…until now. I put over 60K in entries into that site last year, with the majority being NBA…I’m done with NBA on DK now. I quit once they made the announcement. Going to focus on PGA and NFL and hope late-swap makes a return. Getting a goose-egg for a player due to late-scratches and being unable to change is infuriating to the point I just won’t play. I’ve had time to let the new change simmer and I’m fine with not playing NBA anymore because of it.

yahooooooooooo must be licking their chops right now. how stupid could draft kings be? lol down with them for this communist decision. its not fair to everyone so we need to take away some freedom? i’m not sure about other countries but we Americans love options. the more the better. more choice is always better. i really think fan duel and draft kings are planning a merger. its the only logical reason they would do this. i hope a lot of you defect to yahoo. we can make those tournaments big. probably not the same but in time more people will come.

  • bighop04

I usually play double ups instead of h2h, but I can’t believe h2h draftkings grinders are happy about this. It was a huge advantage if you knew you would be blocked by a certain player, to at least give yourself a chance and pivot off. If the night slate starts are 7 or 7:30 et now, I will probably have most of my players every night in the earlier contests just to avoid the late scratches.

What is going to be entertaining is, everyone the first month of the season will think “hey this isn’t affecting a whole lot for me, this change seems fine.” Wait until March when everyone is banged up and resting for the playoffs. Guessing if Lebron is resting or if Boogie feels like playing that night is not what I want to be doing. Now the sweat isn’t just how many points your player puts up, but you start sweating hoping they are even in the lineup.

Choices are important in this industry, and late swap is crucial to my personal investment in NBA DFS.

In a league where a guy could pull a muscle sneezing and be out 15 minutes before tip, there is no reason why I would ever invest my money without late swap.

Now, there are obviously those who are interested in “setting and forgetting” their lineups, but not me, and not many that I know. Prior to this news, we had a choice of where to go.

We still do. Because FanDuel has always been the early lock option, I will be using them this year. If Draft Kings reinstates the one feature that put them head and shoulders above the competition, I will gladly return without any ill will.

However, in protest, I will not play another NBA game on Draft Kings until they reinstate the late swap.

Who is with me? Raise your voice here!

While my meager contribution may not move the needle, our voices united would likely show Draft Kings the error of their decision with our numbers missing en masse.

I’ve always played DK because of how tilting a late scratch is, but we just have to come to accept that while taking a 0 sucks it all evens out in the long run. Really the aspect of late swap im going to miss is using it in the first half hour after lock. While nights where i had a swap out to avoid a 0 were very rare, there were plenty of nights where the news came fast and furious right up until 7pm, and having that little extra time to make decisions while only 2-3 games had started was useful.

Basketball coaches (and football coaches) use “injuries” and “sitting” as part of their overall strategies; they want the opposition to be as unprepared as possible. The late-swap allows DFS players to address (and maybe enjoy) this aspect of the overall NBA strategy/experience.

    Wow.

Yahoo allows late swaps? Going to give their free contest a couple auditions to see how things go. May switch my funda over there.

I’ve always liked Yahoo’s NBA product, especially the 10 entry max, and now with them keeping late swap, it makes me want to switch completely from FD and DK

I have a feeling there is going to be a mass exodus come tomorrow night. Hope Yahoo’s servers are ready. I’m definitely switching over. I have an account on Yahoo but played sparingly.

Now here is a complaint that seems super reasonable. I’d bet if you contacted them they’d cash you out of the tickets. Otherwise everyone pick up their pitchforks.

Yeah I did they converted everything I had into DK dollars no problem at all.

  • Rd726

I don’t think having a lock for ANY contest makes much sense. I’ll still play DK cause cheapest on FD is $1

  • mblaylock10

So happy DK made this change. Always hated late swap, just didn’t care for FD. Now I get the best of both. Surprised more people don’t like this. And I live on the west coast. It’s gonna be great not having to check, worry, change LU’s after 4 PST! So happy :)

  • mblaylock10

I’m actually still up in arms with all the backlash DK is receiving over this. It’s a smart move. Guessing most of their base players will remain loyal. And they’ll probably retain more new customers that are dipping their toes in the NBA water. It can be daunting for most newbies to realize, consume, and lose cause they cannot digest the concept of late swap, twitter, and constantly monitoring your money/lineups after lock. Me personally, and the friends I know that play, it just frees up our evening.

My first reaction was that this sucks, but now that I think about it, I’m sort of looking forward to setting line-ups and being done with it. As long as everything is equal for everybody, I’m fine with whatever they decide is best for their company (think it has to do with getting DK and FD aligned more than anything else anyway). Tho I wish they offered different game structure options; late swap, different #s of roster spots, different salary caps, etc… know it will never happen, but I’d love games with lower caps, just think it would be fun and different.

  • Dadeano860

Not surprising. Catering to the casual player. Grinders are going to play regardless.

It seems most people are using regular season as an example while mentioning recent pre-season experiences like last night. I won’t play pre-season just because you have no clue who is going to play.

For those that keep saying getting a zero on a late scratch is just from poor study habits, well that’s just foolish or you haven’t played much NBA DFS. It happens all the time where a team is playing a late game on the West coast and have to fly out that night or the next morning and a random star will take the night off for rest and you won’t know about until game time.

The DFS community has been arguing and fighting with legislators regarding the distinction between gambling and game of skill. No late swap makes it more of a risk (also known as gambling).

Last Night was a perfect example for both sides of this coin. T’Wolves game approaching and nobody has a clue who’s to play. A guy on RG thread finds a truncated beatwriter tweet with coach quote reading “well on the road so maybe some rest”… That’s it. What that implies is obviously that some guy or guys might A) have limited minutes or B) have the night off, but no real; actionable information. The game locks, the broadcast begins and the ENTIRE STARTING LINEUP and 6th MAN are not only OUT, but I think not even in the building… So my ass, playing at 20x my normal bankroll, am hosed in every LU; as each had at least 4-5 Top Dogs from MN. I am pissed at myself for the budget overextention, but what can one do? … Well of course on the thread there are several dweebs all pleased as punch with their “twit fixation’ and fucking hyperspace swapping systems or whatever and are gloating about how great they are with their ’200 Burgers!!’ and 2x cashing; further trashing the decision to discontinue Late Swap… Meanwhile I’m not happy but not bent and still cashing with lineups missing 2 players and $13,700 in salary. The fact that I’m winning makes me feel like a moron for wasting my time with an endeavor so devoid of challenge. Conversely, the general sentiment amongst those utilizing late swap is “Yay. Look at me!” and mindless ramblings about “Harkless or Davis?” (egad), “My thought process was’ (Oh Dear God) and more bitching about ‘losing their techno-riddled’ edge after tonight… I try to tell the group that if their ‘edge’ is their tweety-feed, then maybe they should reevaluate why they are there, as even if “Late Swap’ remained, they’re fools to think information they have is (obviously) long in the hands of others before it reahes your dumb Starship Enterprise communications decks. I say to the thread that “Maybe this will all be okay, as if I’m easily cashing with zeroes from K.A.T and Gallianari or Lavine, then I can’t be the only one who ate the scratches… I’m really not that good.” Nobody is listening of course, but from time I started NBA this year have espoused mindset (oft-proven in reg season) that a single scratch of any $8,000 player should still be able to cash or else I’m doing this wrong… “That U’ spot is luxury lagniappe”, my mantra. … Well when the books closed it took 202.5 to cash in the $3 GPP, and as suapected, the last lineup inside the line? Had both Wiggins AND Gallianari. I smiled, and though missing it by just 2 pts with 2 0“s of my own, knew I’d been correct on both the micro and macro theories. It’s going to be fine. What I sense people don’t realize is that if “Twitter’ is your edge? You’d better find anothet vocation, as that’s a shaky, shallow, rather laughable ‘strength” to possess. As T3 once opined; proffered; “The future’s so bright, I gotta wear shades “

  • CJtheGrump

NBA is the worst for last-minute scratches and this just makes it worse IMO. I think this might drive me to smaller slates so all the games lock at the same time.

No I do not. My ROI is higher with no late swap then with late swap.

People were arguing this is making edges smaller or removing it completely which it’s not. There is just a different mindset necessary for success.

Care to explain what I’m missing? No late swap requires more outside the box thinking and less chalk in your lineups.

    This x 1000. Thank You.

I’d be more curious to see how it goes during the real season… I never ever put money on a game that doesnt really count to either team.. Seriously though.. its the Friggin preseason!!.. Sure,i like to watch and make changes last minute and still do every single Sunday at all three locks.. and Monday and Thursday… But as long as i have the same opportunity and governing rules as everyone else, I’ll be ok with no late swap for the little i play nba..

Well you can find out tomorrow in nba because tonight for nba is the last night of late swap on DK.

I hope they don’t end up doing this for football or baseball.

Maybe they should give the customer the choice, and have late swap and non late swap contests?

Staying up on, and interpreting injury information is a huge edge in NBA DFS. This is preseason so there can be major changes to lineups that you don’t really see in the regular season. There is skill in noticing coaching tendencies and what it means when a coach says a certain player is questionable. Its about taking this mountain of information we get each day and making the decision that is most likely going to benefit us.

Do you use meth because your writing is really disjointed and rambling.

In cash, sure, but the higher reward for GPPs on FD/DK has to negate no late swap.
