Just got an e-mail about this. Also giving players multiple position eligibility.

  • Eddstone

This move just caters more to the large GPP entry sharks. The casual player yeah right you mean more gullible fish. I already know im gonna get burned by this if I play NBA. Ive been burned by the zero when I been dead on it minute by minute. To play any thing other than a single entry is suicide. Ill be looking into Ya-hoo real hard before the reg season starts. What a Mickey Mouse move you have done DK. You got a week to get it back right…smh.

its not fair to everyone so we need to take away some freedom? i’m not sure about other countries but we Americans love options. the more

Take away some freedom? One could also argue that not being forced to be glued to your phone/computer for 3-4 hours every night checking for player/injury updates is actually adding some freedom to their players.

If there was ever a time for Yahoo DFS to become a bigger player, it is now. Increase the max number of entries per tournament which will give them room to increase GPP payouts, and I’m there. I imagine I will start playing cash games there just for the late swap.

We (and I) fundamentally don’t believe in mega multi-entry contests, which is why we lowered the max to 10 (or up to 1% of total entries, whichever is lower). While I know this will lower our short-term entry fees, we believe our policy in the best long term interest of our users, and thereby our business.

Any chance you guys consider adding fantasy golf??

Also, people don’t realize how much multi-position eligibility is going to change things. I suspect FD will follow suit relatively shortly.

Plenty of nights you probably won’t even need to play west coast teams.

Less entries means less money. I have mentioned I like single entry tourneys but I also love the high entry/high payout GPPs as obviously many others do. I just think Yahoo is missing a small window to make a move in this industry and is doing nothing.

I hate this new rule but i will give DK the benefit of the doubt until i get that late scratch 0. if i get a 0 cause a player(w/ no news during the day) all of a sudden gets scratched w/ the flu or anything else IM GONE from DK.. It just sucks that someone(me) who actually only uses “late swap” for late scratches and not strategic moves is now getting penalized for wanting to avoid a 0 in my lineup..

  • mailnurs

It doesn’t make sense because we are being lied to. I would have more respect if DK would just admit the true reason for eliminating late swap and not give us this B.S. IMO if i own a DK I would only make a few tournies instant lock to assess if it’s a better business practice or not. For them to just eliminate late swap completely means this is somehow benefiting them and they have no legal reason to be honest with us about it.

With a two hour gap between starts on opening night, I predict you will get screwed with a zero due to late news night one. So odd they wouldn’t just have a few tournies instant lock to assess if this is really the more effective NBA strategy or not for the “players” LOL. Cause it appears the overwhelming majority of people on this site prefer the late swap option.

So I guess being raw to the NBA fantasy (I only played last year) I am wondering how this effects your handicapping? Because you still have to work within your allowed salary cap and your still going to use players who give you the best value for your $ when all is said and done. I guess my biggest question is I am having trouble understanding this (forgive my stupidity) ..so lets say you have S. Curry as your big key of the night 10:30 game the NBA slate starts at 7:00pm…at 9pm you find out he is sick…this means all your lineups are screwed because at 7pm everything locks? If that is the case I am assuming this is a move to make players spend much more money than they normally would to make sure they have their bases covered. I have a feeling this may backfire.

If that were the case, everyone would quickly run out of money because you can never cover all your bases. We just have to guess what their true motive is because clearly players are not happy if you consider this website to be a microcosm of the majority. A guess that makes sense is this will allow DK to have several tournies splitting up the night which may result in a larger cut for them. But get used to being screwed. I already have that horrible taste in my mouth just playing a few preseason tournies with late swap. This also opens pandoras box that people who release news can actually do an “insider trading” type play and inform their “friends” of players likely to be scratched late.

YES!!! Thank you Daniel and the rest of the team for sticking with your beliefs. Please DO NOT change under pressure. Your product is fantastic. 100% of my NBA action will be on Yahoo this season.

This is really interesting..I am very interested to see how this plays out..its going to open up lots of discussions for true NBA lovers who actually know the game inside and out but may not have the bankroll OR the insider info when you see certain players winning big tourneys with players a majority didn’t even consider.

It seems like its making fantasy a game of luck rather than skill. So instead of sitting on your phone/laptop etc. all night waiting for late player info…we will instead be sitting around all night with our hands tied praying all of our players start…makes no sense really..cause true players who enjoy fantasy (even a small roller like myself) I enjoy doing the research, reading, finding updates…etc.

Yes because that is the only truly fair way to play NBA because of all the nightly late news. Yet they were filling up tournies day after day AND how many times did you read a player commenting on making the move away from fanduel due to their instant lock. But all in all this thread doesnt matter. The owners of DK want to make as much money as possible just like us. So many are so passionate about this because we love the competition. Anyone who plays daily knows this has nothing to do with player satisfaction or fairness….its all about the benjamins. The next large tourney site with late swap will get my money.

If late scratches were something that happened every week or even every month, you guys would have a point.

I understand that for some people being burned by even one late scratch is too much, but as far as the prevalence of how often it’s an issue that is being blown out of proportion.

For the vast majority of slates, this is still as much a game a skill as it was previously. Plenty of very good NBA DFS players have played on FD and they thrive.

Mine too as long as I can enter more than 10 times. I like pissing away my money in bunches instead of a little at a time.

It does so I guess we have a point. I got hit with a few last season but had enough time to make changes.

  • mellofellowsu

What are we talking about here? GTDs or someone scratched with no warning whatsoever?

I don’t call a GTD that ends up not playing a late scratch.

  • Gfry3

I don’t know about everyone else but this no late swap on DK makes me almost hate watching anything the rest of the night. All I can think about is well if a guy gets scratched those lineups are all dead. I just will never understand the argument about not liking late swap because you have to check lineups, you absolutely do not, you are perfectly ok to leave them alone. But you are right DK, I’m sure this is what everyone wanted…

  • tsteeves

I can’t speak for anyone else but sitting here waiting for a potential alert to pop up about a locked in late scratch is lowering my enjoyment. IMO DK shouldn’t have attempted to fix what wasn’t broken. It’s been stated a number of times already and I agree that nothing was forcing people to monitor late breaking news and adjust lineups. If you wanted to call it a night at 7 or 8pm and accept a potential zero you were free to do so but if you didn’t want the potential zero you waited until the late game(s) tipped off before shutting down the shop.

  • rebkell

I still don’t understand why in the middle of the preseason they decided to make this move. If they had put so much thought and all the research into the decision, it’s hard to believe they wouldn’t have done this before the NBA season started and why only NBA? It’s the one sport that has the most late scratches. I really dread when it happens, because there is no doubt it will happen, shortly after lock you’ll get word out of the blue that so and so will not be playing and your night is done, even though it may be hours before the game starts. Blah

First night that this rule applies and I just got burned. I play multiple sports on DK and play everyday. Extremely annoyed by this move. If you get a 0 in the NBA, you are done for the night. I just donated my $ for this evening and will be moving my NBA action to another site, serves me right for playing preseason NBA. Is Yahoo the only other site that does late swap?
