Just got an e-mail about this. Also giving players multiple position eligibility.

I’m actually a fan of these changes. Profit for the serious players is always going to come from the recreational players, and this is great for recreational players. I think this will keep the average player active deeper into the season so it’s not just a rake swap come February.

NBA with late swap is a real chore for anybody that doesn’t do DFS professionally or has a busy home life. I experienced this after my daughter was born and my school schedule became more intense. I had to stop playing because I was dead money not being able to sit in front of my computer the whole night.

The 1st game of the night will have higher ownership then usual.

If you havent realized, sites are trying to make the games fairer and have more people winning. This evens the playing field for the people who arent constantly checking their news feeds.

Yep. It is just another way to create more rake for the site. The more people that win the better off DK is. Like the GPP’s that pay 28% or whatever they do now. Those few bucks that the people who finish 17-28% will sure as hell play that money in another upcoming contest which is good for DK. I’m not even saying I mind the move, but that is clearly what they are doing.

Also why is a DK rep now allowed to post on this topic but not other important topics regarding syndicate play and colluding?

    This is a valid point.

Very bad business move for DK. Most people play nba on DK because they don’t like the idea of late scratches costing you your night before it’s even started. There reasoning is that they want people to enjoy the games?? really?

Works both ways. I didn’t play much on DK at all because of the late swap. Now I will.

  • Pitch120

For the people saying “Welp, going to FD”…Fanduel doesnt have a late swap, so you are being a bit hypocritical

Thanks for taking the time to reply, Mark. Though I hypothetically enjoyed having the option to late swap, not having to constantly be by my phone on nights when I have someone in the late games possibly DNPing (predictably or randomly) will avoid many fights with my wife… and I think I honestly used it about three times out of 100+ nights of play with my first “full time” season on DK. Though I do find it interesting you are removing one of the things that makes you unique (and bringing back the position flexibility you once removed), having the integrity to come in here and actually explain your decision, at least in my opinion, is a respectable move in a time where big site reps rarely (if at all) venture onto these perilous message boards that are invariably filled with panic and rage.

We know that there will be customers that are not happy with this decision. However, we have increasingly received feedback from players who have decreased their play or even stopped playing completely because they want to “actually enjoy watching the NBA.” We do see the value of late-swap and there are no plans of removing it for other sports, but for NBA specifically, it has become clear that the amount of extra time and energy required to compete as a result of late-swap functionality is taking too much away from the enjoyment of the game.

hahahaha so they are ok with all the people who will decrease their play now because they are removing late-swap. Such a dumb move. No one is forcing you to make late swaps and monitor news, if you dont like late-swap just dont update things. Pretty simple. They are trying to meet a middle ground but completely missed the point.

    Hey Guys,

I wanted to share a little more on our reasoning for removing late-swap for NBA

I think late-swap was initially viewed by many new and casual customers as a necessary safe guard against a last-minute “scratch,” which has made late-swap a very popular feature for DraftKings over the past few years. While late-swap can help prevent the poor experience of getting a zero in your lineup, there are other uses for the feature which ultimately require users to monitor news and scramble to make last-minute adjustments to their lineups up until tip-off of the last game of the night. For example, often times a late scratch will result in other players becoming valuable picks. So now you are not only monitoring your own players to make sure they are not scratched; you actually should be monitoring all NBA news to capitalize on any new value picks that might transpire while players are still eligible to be swapped.

I have three kids and a full time job that I work 13 hours a day. I am able to find the time to monitor the news. If I start getting burnt by late scratches and get 0’s NBA will become not worth it at all. There are times when I miss news and get a zero and I chalk that up to me not doing what I am supposed to do an follow the news. If its my own fault I can deal with it. When it happens to be because I can’t change it its more of a crap shoot and will not only take the fun out of it but will cause a loss of money that could have been avoided. You just turned yourself into FanDuel and took away the best feature you had imo.

The reason I moved to DK from FD was because of the late swap option. This combined with flattened prize pools gives me zero incentive to keep my business there.

I’ll take a look at the prize pools once the regular season contests are posted on both sites, but it looks like I’m moving back to FD.

  • JustDFSin

Let’s see how those players feel when they set their lu’s and cant change a player out and lose all there money even though they had time to switch out. Let’s see how “enjoyable” it will be to watch the nba when you realize u lost all your money before your game started.

  • flip4flop

I only played NBA on DK because of late swap. Dont need to worry about playing on two places this NBA season I guess. If they do this for all sports I will have to move all my money to FD.

    Terrible change overall.

  • thetitanlb

Lol they say this was done for fairness? How is it fair that you get screwed because of scratch? Seems real fair to me huh

I would counter that with those who do the research deserve the edge.

That’s a fair point but the sites want to attract and keep the casual players. That’s how they’ll grow. They aren’t going to tailor the experience to the hardcore guys (ie all of us) because they’ll get our business either way. That’s in any industry.

It’s a major chore. I’m in the same boat as you and I play for quite a bit of money during NBA season. Family comes first and I played very little on DK because of late swap.

The DK rep had a message posted earlier in one of the threads that got removed or merged together. NBA only and this was done so people can enjoy the games more vs. sitting and waiting for news to break

Of course that is what they are saying, but people are resistant to change…NBA is the sport where late swap is needed the most so they are going to start top down, I doubt there is late swap for next NFL season IMO, but of course I could be wrong.

  • jordanh415

“This change will allow our customers to enjoy the games and follow their teams rather than monitoring for late breaking news leading up to tip-off of each game.” – players can still enjoy the games & follow their teams without monitoring late news but incur the risk. I truly thought late swap for NBA differentiated DK from the other sites and helped people avoid the inevitable late scratch madness that happens all the time in the NBA. It is difficult for me to see consumers being happy with taking a 0 due to a scratch that easily could have been avoided with a late swap.

Anybody know why the NBA doesn’t have injury/line up announcement deadlines like MLB and NFL.

Are they are waiting 5 min before tip so stars aren’t ruled out too early? If so, their has to be something that can be done on NBA level to balance transparency (which is important not just for DFS but the competition of the games) and getting stars out there (which is good for fans).

  • al3b3d3v

greedy Draftkings removing late swap to create more tilt

  • noddy

I will still play on DK because I like the idea of some players having more than one position.
