Just got an e-mail about this. Also giving players multiple position eligibility.

  • Cobra_Kai

I got Afflalo’d tonight on DK. Any other night i would have late swapped. This is a good move for the everyday players though, with a wife and kids.. right? right?

Late swap is critical to NBA for this very reason. I am considering taking all my NBA action to Yahoo. Thanks DK.

  • sportsdrone

Yeah me too. Taking zeros is not fun = me not playing on DK anymore.

  • sportsdrone

and I even had andrew nicholson in my lineup. smh fml

  • Skyway

THIS IS GOING TO BE THE WORST DK NBA SEASON EVER , LATE SWAP WAS SWEET ALREADY BURNED!!!!

  • jofu77

Test run on NBA preseason, as you guessed it, at 8:22PM Eastern Time, News Matt Barnes, my only late player, is out…Big 0! Yahoo here I come.

  • jofu77

Got screwed with Matt Barnes scratch. Yahoo it is.

  • Skyway

    Does yahoo have late swap

  • billholler

Where’s the DK rep that chimed in with his generic canned answer a few days ago? Are you reading any of this? Does it even matter that 98% of the regular NBA DFSers are pissed? Does it matter that max entry guys are even mentioning moving all their NBA money to Yahoo?

Less entries means less money. I have mentioned I like single entry tourneys but I also love the high entry/high payout GPPs as obviously many others do. I just think Yahoo is missing a small window to make a move in this industry and is doing nothing.

I enjoy playing the high-entry tournaments too, even though I often only single-enter them. But Y’s base (which I happen to be part of now that I think about it) is seasonal players.many of whom are used to putting a lot of energy and research into the game without the lure of a massive payout at the end. The best you can ever hope for in a seasonal league is maybe an 8x payout if you win, and that’s after a six-month grind. The kind of people that enjoy that will probably be OK with the smaller tourneys Y puts up.

It also positions them outside the crosshairs of the regulators. I have a feeling it’s going to turn out to be a solid decision in the long run.

Season long fantasy was quickly dying thanks to daily fantasy. Once DFS is totally legal across the board, season long will eventually reach the point of extinction.

Congrats DK! I hope you collect all the money you can from the guys with kids.

You just lost my business and we didn’t even get through the first night.

    What an incompetent company.

  • Cobra_Kai

I sent them feedback, not expecting much more than a canned response. I got exactly that. “glued to social media”… come on.

My feedback: I have been playing on your site as a very satisfied customer for many years. I play every single day, almost all sports. Taking away NBA late swap is extremely disappointing and I have already been burned on day 1. I could have easily swapped Afflalo out as I would have any other night. I dont understand how this move benefits your customers. It has made this longtime, loyal customer upset. Thank you for listening.

DK Response: Thank you for reaching out. After soliciting feedback from our players we believe that eliminating late swap will enhance the overall enjoyment of our NBA product. Removing late swap will allow all players to enjoy the games that are being played in real time, as opposed to being glued to social media ensuring that there is no news that may impact their lineups. We are very excited for what our NBA product holds this season.

  • walkoff9

I don’t get the glued to social media thing. Do you really need to be glued to it after the first lock?

Check for news 15 minutes before the late game start and make changes, not that much work.

Yes because it is so enjoyable to have paid real money to find out in real time that you just got kicked in the balls.

I’m playing in a league that’s been together for about 15 years with very little attrition—we lost a guy a few years back when he moved overseas, but he rejoined when he moved back to the US this year. DFS’s legal status is irrelevant; none of us live in a DFS-illegal state. Twenty years from now DK and FD will probably be a distant memory (they’ll either have been bought out/wiped out by MGM and Sands or they’ll have been extinguished by regulation and litigation) but that league will probably still be playing.

I’m also playing in (among many others, this was the last of mine to draft so it has the biggest number) Yahoo Public 1122530. Baseball and basketball still draw 200,000 leagues a year and hockey is in six digits, and those are just the public leagues. That’s a lot of leagues and the numbers haven’t changed much over the last several years; it may not be a growth market but it doesn’t look like an endangered species to me.

And whatever its size, that’s their DFS base. They don’t want to appeal to the big-check crowd; there’s a reason they aren’t spending a lot of money on casino-style advertisements. And they have absolutely no reason to risk having that base wiped out by sharks or to even give the appearance that it’s possible.

  • Yeoman

Maybe I’m wrong about this, but my experience has been that when companies start confining their customer-service employees to canned answers it means the lawyers have gotten involved.

I’m not sure how that applies here. But I’m definitely getting the sense that this decision was taken for a completely different reason than they’re admitting, that they know or suspect that their customer service people know that, and therefore they can’t trust them to freely respond.

  • raddler

THey wont do it for other sports because late scratches are rarer and much less influential. Obviously as a serious player it is costing you edge. But it must be costing DK $ somehow or they wouldnt do it.

Except for soccer, where the Popovich approach to lineup selection is pretty much mandatory, lineups are never released more than an hour before kick, and the limited-substitution rules make it absolutely essential to know who’s starting.

The interesting question to me is why they did it for NBA only. If it was for a prospective merger you’d think they would have done it in all sports affected by the merger. If it was because it’s only really important in certain sports, you’d think they’d have done it in both sports where that’s true and not just one.

    —-

The thing I don’t get about the merger theory is: why introduce MPE?

If it gets beyond mentioning, they might pay attention. Depends on what they’re really up to.

Day one of this bull crap no late swap already got burned.

Ya’ll are playing preseason basketball and are surprised to get burned on late DNP’s? You are the same people to complain about “x” player not playing enough minutes in a preseason game too, right?

Come on, be better than this.

  • Whacko

Just wondering why so many people are raging over preseason. It’s pretty common knowledge that with just a few days left before the regular season teams will most likely rest players and or minimize their exposure.
Preseason even with late swap is difficult to play..now since it’s gone it is bankroll suicide basically to enter these contests.

Save your money for the regular season…

Yes a zero blows bigtime….but wouldn’t it be a smarter path to wait to see what transpires next week?

Why should anyone get burned at all? Preseason, regular season, post season, why should it matter?
