Just got an e-mail about this. Also giving players multiple position eligibility.

Why should anyone get burned at all? Preseason, regular season, post season, why should it matter?

Agreed, this isn’t something that will be unique to pre-season. i don’t understand the ‘that’s what you get for playing pre-season’ reasoning. No – that’s what i get for playing a site with no late swap, the fact it happened in pre-season rather than regular season is irrelevant.

Speak with your wallet if you truly disagree. i don’t agree with the change but it’s not enough to get me away from DK, the rest of the product is too good. Doesn’t mean I won’t whine about it though

  • KindGuy

Well if you won’t speak with your wallet when given the chance, why should any of us take you seriously?

Of course you can complain, this is America. Just don’t expect anyone to give a shit when you still give DK your business. Because then, you’re just all bark and no bite.

  • crazypaul

I realize people hate change, and yes sometimes you will get screwed by late news, but often times if you do your research you will know what guys might sit from the late games. I play most of my NBA on Fanduel because I dont want to deal with late swap til 1030pm EST every night of the week. You know how many times I was screwed by late news last season? Maybe 3-5 times. You’re actually just as likely to be screwed by news at 7:05 after the early games already locked as you are late news. The real problem is the NBA has no rules on when lineups have to be announced to the media like the NFL does.

On a side note, I tried DK last night to see how I would like the MPE, and I LOVE IT! Anytime I can I am going to fill my roster with all the PG’s & PF’s. Threw 1 bullet in the $4 GPP just to try it out and placed in the top 500. I will definitely play more on DK this season now.

  • KindGuy

If someone actually has stats on the number of late scratches in NBA last season and the number is pretty low, I might actually stay on DK.

Crazypaul above me just said it only happened about 3-5 times. Not badddd.

The prize pools on DK are just too big to give up if late scratches only happen 3-5 times per season.

While I’m not taking sides, I agree with what Crazypaul said. In fact, last season I played cash games every night until around all-star break. Late scratches actually helped me win more than they made me lose.

If you are not on a late scratch that is popular, it’s almost an auto-win.

  • bcoggins429

Everyone at DK is going to say, “Look at our results! The change was fine!” Then the ASB is going to come. People that only played on DK before are going to realize why people quit playing FD a couple weeks after the ASB. There will be zero news about an injury or anything, then at 7:05 you find out a 9K player is being “rested.” Those will be some good threads on here 😂

It only happened to “ME” 3-5 times, and I played 5-6 nights a week last season. I’m sure it happened a lot through out the season, but twitter is your fiend and not playing guys questionable in late games in smart if you like money.

  • timski83

Let me say what you probably are not allowed to say. “ DK had to change the swap. Sharks/ High volume players were just beating down players who actually might actually go to bed before the west coast games start. Those casual players have zero opportunity to take advantage of the late swap, so we had to take that edge away from the sharks.”

  • crazypaul

This. If you have the time to research, and mostly fade guys who may not play due to injury in the late games, you will profit more than you lose.

As an NBA reg who plays nightly my question has remained the same:

Why in the world does this only apply to NBA? The NBA is the laughing stock of injury designation and people sitting, thus making it the sport needing late swap the most. Yet, instead, we take it away from the NBA but leave it for all other sports?

That’s just nonsense and I still haven’t seen a reasonable explanation as to why it’s only NBA. If DK would do it for NFL, NHL, MLB etc then I would have no complaints.

    This is what is odd.

NHL and MLB both have late slates and late-breaking news as well. NBA just has more and is more volatile, so like you said above, if any sport needs the late swap, its NBA. If DK really cared about the customer experience and not needing to be “glued to social media” then they would remove late swap for NHL and MLB also, right? Perhaps they have plans to, but NHL is already into the regular season.

  • dds2190

There’s no logical explanation for taking the late swap away. First night without it and I got burned by a zero from Afflalo, when the news came out around 8est. This would have been plenty of time to swap even for the so called casual fan.

The whole decision seems aimed to appeal to the lowest common denominator.

  • Gfry3

Its not the injured guys that are as much of a concern for me. If you play Anthony Davis that is a risk, that’s on you. Its like bcog said, what happens when lineups lock at 7 and GS plays at 10 and they are 55-7 and playing Houston. I will want all the GS guys in this matchup, suddenly Kerr goes yah we are sitting Klay/KD tonight for REST. No matter how many hours of research I do there is no way to predict when we will get “Popped”. That is my huge issue.

And I do kind of laugh when I hear people say how much “work” it is to check twitter, because im sure everyone sets lineups at 7 and doesn’t have their laptop/ipad/tv on the rest of the night anyway! Twitter check, lineup swap takes all of 1 minute.

The problem is now people who live on the west coast are now pressed with limited time due to work etc. There were countless times when I would just backload my lineup with later games and adjust to news, and NO you dont have to be glued to your phone thats just a ignorant comment. Just baffling this change was made to help dad’s with kids that cant manage it???? Just ridiculous. And now with double ups at 13% its just gonna make them tougher with everyone being lead to the early games now since no one wants to risk later games. You better be happy dad’s who cant play dfs and watch your kid lol.

NHL doesn’t start drastically earlier than the NBA. While it did start a few weeks ago, Draftkings already knew that they were making the NBA decision weeks ago (if not months ago) and had plenty of time to relay that to NHL players. Instead, they decided to trial run it with NBA this season, which is ridiculous considering it truly is the one sport that needs late swap the most.

We’ve known about late swap for a week or so now, they didn’t just randomly make that decision that day. DK has known about it for weeks, if not months and waited until closer to the season to relay that message to players. The same could have been done for the NHL.

Ya’ll are playing preseason basketball and are surprised to get burned on late DNP’s? You are the same people to complain about “x” player not playing enough minutes in a preseason game too, right?

Come on, be better than this.

It’s like if they played NFL preseason and are complaining that Aaron Rodgers only played one series. They’re being disingenuous to try to prove their point. Teams are not playing to win in preseason, of course teams are not going to play players.

I’ve played two seasons on FD, obviously with no late swap. This idea that every night there is this real possibility of taking zeros for scratches coming out of nowhere is ridiculous. It is a rare occurrence.

The best players are playing both on FD and DK and late swap doesn’t appear to affect their results. So I think it’s laughable that people are saying THIS is what’s going to keep them from winning.

  • dds2190

Ok and? Technically the season for nba dfs had started with pre season slates.

I agree, if you don’t want to deal with doing research or think keeping a Twitter account which puts out late breaking news is too much work (there’s several options out there), then don’t play dfs.

Also note that dk does a horrible job of updating news when guys are scratched/out. Guys will be ruled out yet they will not update them with an O or Q in a timely manner.

Late swapping a guy has little to do with research. You’re just waiting for someone else to make the call for you. So let’s at least drop this notion that it takes some special set of cognitive skills to check twitter while you’re on the crapper.

But I don’t understand taking away the option for those that do see it. Don’t say “a small amt of people didn’t like it this way, so we’re changing it and gonna tick off the majority”.
I’ve had times where I know I’m not going to be able to check so I don’t play certain nights. I’ve also had times where I check just in time and swap late. Also been burned by not checking. I can deal with it being on me, I’m far less forgiving when I see someone is out and can’t do anything about it.

This change does not make me “rest easier” or anything of the sort. I still check my lineups and when something like last night happens and I had a decent lineup that missed cashing I don’t want to play.

    Mod Note

We are seeing plenty of members posting that a future merger between DK & FD is fact, when it’s indeed speculation. Please keep in mind there’s a big difference between making a guess and posting that it’s no doubt going to happen. The later posts will be deleted, as we do not allow speculation. Remember, someone could read that and think it’s for sure happening.

    Thanks for understanding.

This is no different than going to a casino, sitting a a blackjack table, making a bet, getting dealt the first card and than the dealer says by the way, I have removed all the queens from the deck.

Some hands it may help you, some hands it may hurt you, but you need to just take it because that’s how we do business.

  • crazypaul

Some of you act like not being able to late swap is the end times. I’d also like to point out that most of you on this thread are here to complain, so you think you are in the majority in hating this change when in fact you are not. There was an edge to be had with late swap, but there is an even greater edge by not having it if you would stop complaining and really think about it.

  • Gfry3

This thread is FIRE! I love it. Not sure what I like more, mello talking about twitter/crapper or the awesome blackjack analogy!

  • tvegas40

So for everyone who is saying it doesn’t happen “that much” or “don’t play guys who might be injured” you’re basically telling me to NEVER EVER play any Spur, Cousins or Anthony Davis ever again? You don’t see how this is a problem?
