Just got an e-mail about this. Also giving players multiple position eligibility.

I love this decision by DK. It allows casual players to play on the site now without fear if they cannot be on their computer/cell phone throughout the whole slate.

  • timski83

In DK Basketball; player by game ownership will be exactly like FD. Most all of the serious players will just play the games that start at 7 or 7:30. They might sprinkle in some later guys but I know from my FD experience, the early games will have much higher ownership than before the swap lock.

Honestly I see all these posts about “my wife/girlfriend getting angry that i monitor my computer all night”…There’s one solution to that…SEE YA! Yeah I’m a single guy during the NBA DFS season haha

It’s only 1 pre season night but i must admit i had my most profitable night in nba for preseason. The late slate’s %‘s were down and since i make muliple lineups i was able to take more risks. I have a feeling this might actually backfire for the people complaining.

Here’s one point for this change helping the multi entry guys and not the casual player. I suspect this will become the rule and not the exception

Its all about the $ for DK. This move will bring in more revenue so it had to be done. Plain and simple

Still waiting for an explanation on how it could possibly make them more money. If a ton of regular DFSers are pissed and plan to boycott DK, how is that going to make them more money?

I threw in a few LU tonight for the first time this preseason. I am fully expecting someone to take the day off unexpectedly.

Because the people upset are a small (but vocal) minority. Im assuming DK has a lot of proprietary data to back up their decision.

They have provided no explanation for any of the ridiculous decisions they have made in the last few months and this one is the most ridulousest of them all.

I think the real ‘tell’ on this is going to be once the season starts and we see if there is a visible and obvious increase in the size and number of events on later, smaller slates. If they have increased the amount of events and prize pools on the later secondary slates than it should be clear they are making the change to fill more of those.

  • tyrique730

I think anthony davis and cousins will have a few beginning of the season. Near all star we have to deal with spurs lakers miami warriors being having healthy scratches and cavs of cours with lebron taking random time off. The only superstar im not worried about a healthy late scratch is paul george.

This change does not make me “rest easier” or anything of the sort. I still check my lineups and when something like last night happens and I had a decent lineup that missed cashing I don’t want to play.

    BINGO !!!!!

I could see the executives of DK sitting in a weekly board meeting talking about this..“30-40 people are going to boycott us for no late swap…hahaha…get those promos out there and make it back up”

  • zline34

I bet thousands each year on DK for NBA. The only reason I don’t play FD is because they don’t have late swap. There’s no way I’m going to risk entering the higher stakes contests without late swap being available. If you can’t check you phone 5 minutes before tip off you shouldn’t be playing DFS anyway. What a joke. Does Rosters have late swap?

  • zline34

    @lggarruto said...

This is my exact sentiment. If its on me then I can live with it. How can I get in a $1000 contest Knowing there is a chance that I will get a DNP Rest. I can’t and I won’t now. For MellofellowSU- I’m glad you agree and that you say many play on FD well the reason I didn’t play on FD is for the swap. If DK didn’t have the swap to start maybe I never sign up on DK. For everyone and anyone that scours twitter for the info its a waste of time. Just download RG app it takes 3 minutes. Yes I have kids, Yes I work, Yes I play a big volume.

There’s no way I’m entering the $300, $150, or $27 contests now. I’m not risking that without late swap. that’s idiotic.

They are making more because they think they have a superior product to fd. They expect people to switch from fd to dk while retaining their original customer base.

There’s a lot of great players that play on FD at those limits and have been doing it for years. You think they’re idiots?

No but its their choice. It was my choice to sign up and play at DK or FD. I chose DK bc I liked the late swap feature. I don’t care how great the players are there. It is not something I am going to risk on the larger scale.

I’m glad someone mentioned the data upon which this decision was based. I for one would love to see it…nothing truly proprietary, mind you….just a simple breakdown on those in favor vs. those against. See, in the absence of something (somewhat) empirical, the rationale offered to date for doing away with late swap is laughable. And simply restricting the change to NBA, which as others have mentioned is the sport most critically impacted by late-breaking news, only serves to heighten my skepticism regarding the true reasoning behind this.

So, what’s the breakdown on for vs. against? 80% to 20%? 65% to 35%? Heck, even if it was 51% to 49% I could understand the change. But they’ve offered NOTHING other than another one of these “trust us…we know what’s good for you”-type statements which at this point are a dime a dozen. If the outpouring of support for this has been so overwhelming, they shouldn’t have any problem sharing the raw data behind it, should they?

  • billholler

A week later and still no response from a DK rep other than the canned nonsense spewed to us by Marknes on page 1.

Someone should start a thread when the season starts next week and track the amount of overlay for GPPs with multiple start times.

Yep, I remember last year in the game day threads numerous complaints from the FD players that got saddled with the big zeros on their lineups. I certainly heard more complaints about FD not having late swap than I did the other way around. There were some players that said they didn’t like it or want it, but there was definitely a large portion of players that wanted it badly and it was simple play DK if you want it.

DK doesn’t inspire me with their changes. What was it a couple of years ago they just decided to do away with multiple positions, now they drop late swap which I think they have had since the start and bring back multiple positions, I think they are reactionary and subject to whims, if not why not explain or give some reasoning behind the decisions.

This isn’t Fanduel. I could care less what they do over there. This is Draftkings. This is where the best players play. I don’t think it’s worth risking large entry fees without late swap unless your bankroll is very deep.

Best players play on both sites and it doesn’t seem to affect their results.

Or compare the size of those GPPs with comparable GPPs a year ago. I assume DK’s smart enough to adjust tournament size to avoid overlays. Or maybe I shouldn’t make such a silly assumption but at least it’s a possibility.
