Just got an e-mail about this. Also giving players multiple position eligibility.

  • JimKronlund

I am discussing mcgruffthecrimedog statement on there being no valid reason why they no longer allow late swap in the NBA. The fact that they changed it to no swap is more solid evidence that the majority wanted it that way. What evidence based statement can anyone say that the majority does not want it.

“They are merging soon so could that be another reason why DK decided to get rid of it????”
Maybe that is a factor but it remains the same outcome. They decided on a business/educated decision for both sites to not have late swap in the NBA.

This actually is not a true statement, unless we can see results. Almost everyone I’ve personally spoken to hates that DK got rid of it, since FD doesn’t have it either. DK and FD don’t make decisions based on what people want. That’s like saying they increased the rake on their site because people wanted it. Now you may be right. But I believe we should have evidence of that.

What evidence based statement can anyone say that the majority does want it? If you insist the majority or even 51% of people wanted it because DK says so, then they should produce the results of these polls. Another question I’d like addressed is what customer base DK reached out to. I played high volume on DK for sometime and wasn’t part of any poll so who exactly did they ask.

  • KindGuy

Guys, just because FD and DK have merged, doesn’t mean they need to have the same product. DK only removed late swap for NBA. They merged for financial reasons first.

  • Rd726

Absolutely HATE no late swap. It made it more interesting, etc when you could still change your lineup when one of your players didn’t want to play at the last second. You have a great score going and then so and so decides he is tired so out of the blue your good lineup is toast. If you get the alerts on your phone, you don’t really HAVE to be checking stuff all the time. A late scratch POPS up on something you are looking at anyway. Oh well.

total BS, so by taking out late swap, youre unable to change a late player if hes resting unlike NFL. total bullshit and unfair to ppl that actually do research. this is the exact reason why I left FD last NBA season. wtf is going on here? and DK wont let you do a rotowire optimizer now???? wtf x’s 2

  • tsteeves

IMO the decision to do away with late swap benefits the mass multiple entry pro type players and not surprising these are the players DK is known for catering to. A late scratch/DNP is much more likely to affect the players that enter 1-3 lineups. The players with 100+ lineups will invariably have coverage in case of a late scratch/DNP. I’d like to know if the people that told DK they don’t enjoy checking their phone/laptop for late changes also don’t check their scores and standings as the night goes on. I highly doubt that’s the case.

Not sure about rotowire specifically but DK now requires you to lock two players, so maybe try doing that on rotowire and see if it works.

The only piece of true evidence is the FACT that they dropped late swap. They did this to grow their business. They certainly did not do it to alienate the majority of its players. There is many ways to do market research and a poll is just one of them. Just because you were not invited to do a poll means nothing. Are you one of the people that have a device on your TV that tells the Nielson Rating Company what shows you watch? No I am sure you are not. Nor do you know anyone that is a part of it. But your statement above suggests that because you watch a lot of TV you should have one of their devices. Even though The Nielson Rating Company website states that it measures more than 40 percent of the world’s viewing behavior. http://www.nielsen.com/eu/en/solutions/measurement/television.html. Yet most of us never see anything about it first hand.
Well there are hundreds of thousands of people that play DK and I would be surprised if they asked anymore than 10% of their customer base. You do not need to ask 51% of your customers to get results that are conclusive on what the majority wants.
I have done surveys for DK before. They use a company called SurveyMonkey. I don’t remember if late swap was a question on one of them, but I have done 3-4 different ones. DK most likely would not announce their individual findings but they most certainly would make their decisions in part; based on these surveys.
Lets not forget that it also stops back loading practices. Which can be argued as an advantage not in the spirit of fair play.
I am sure there are many other reasons that helped make that decision.
I am also a higher end mass entry player. They have plenty of those to choose from, but they would have done a cross section from all their players.
In the end there are many valid reasons to end late swap. Whether or not I agree is independent of this post.

RG has changed it now to one locked player and one Favorited player. They did this because DK told all the builders to have 2 locked players, but only RG did it and the others did not. So I think that is why they backed up a bit to 1 Favorited and 1 locked.

  • tvsfrink

Actually it’s two locks, two favorites, or one of each.

  • JimKronlund

Incorrect sir. 1 favorite and 1 locked. I just did it.
I tried just 1 lock and got this:
Please Lock or Favorite at Least 2 Players
DraftKings Community Guidelines require users to make at least two player pool modifications before using a lineup builder tool.

So you dont even need to lock 1 player. You can just favourite 2 players.

Edit: Sorry @tvsfrink I only duplicated what you said. You were correct sir.

The only piece of true evidence is the FACT that they dropped late swap. They did this to grow their business.

So dropping late swap proves to you beyond a doubt it’s what the majority wanted? Let say 1000 players were polled about whether to keep or get rid of late swap and 60% chose to keep it, but lets say there were a number of MME pros that provide DK with an enormous amount of rake revenue in the 40% that voted to get rid of late swap. Do you think DK listens to the 60% or follows the opinion of its cash cows?

As for doing it to grow their business…I guess that depends on what growing their business means to you. If generating more money from the cash cows mentioned above is growing their business then I agree, but I find it hard to believe the number of new player or existing player entries has or will go up since late swap was dropped.

As for your nielsen ratings rant…c’mon man you’re trying entirely to hard.

I cannot even respond to your hypothetical scenario. You are painting a single overly simplistic and unrealistic picture from 1 in a 1000 different scenarios that could have happened.

“As for your nielsen ratings rant…c’mon man you’re trying entirely to hard.”
I am only bringing up facts and real life examples (Nielson Ratings & SurveyMonkey) to back up my position. You are creating unrealistic scenarios as if that is how the business world works. Or that is what is happening here. To argue your point is like fighting ghost.

IMO the mass multiple entries are the DFS professionals that sit in their grandmas basement with no girlfriends, and no full time job while they research 24/7 and prey on people like me…(youdacou) (moklovin) (rexgrossman) (kingfi) etc…

  • tvsfrink

    Yep, that’s definitely an opinion…

Well your “opinion” is wrong. Most of the pros that I follow on social media don’t “sit in their grandmas basement” nor do they lack intimate relationships. Stop being so salty. DFS is a full time job for many people here on RG so what you call “preying” is just part of their livelihood.

Just checking in to say how thankful I am DK made this change. Its by far the best for the longevity of the games. And it removed a lot of the taxing mental strife that feature created. Theres a reason why “Set it and forget it” was a slogan that made Ron Popiel a multi-millionaire!
