Just got an e-mail about this. Also giving players multiple position eligibility.

I have never understood this notion that you have to sit in front of your computer all night. Put the RG alert app on your phone. How hard is that? Especially if you are watching games. How does an alert take away from the enjoyment of watching games?

They have been offering satellites to NBA contests for almost 2 weeks now with no mention of this eventually coming when they had to know it was happening. Now I have tickets to use for a site I have no interest playing on awesome…

Now here is a complaint that seems super reasonable. I’d bet if you contacted them they’d cash you out of the tickets. Otherwise everyone pick up their pitchforks.

That’s a fair point but the sites want to attract and keep the casual players. That’s how they’ll grow. They aren’t going to tailor the experience to the hardcore guys (ie all of us) because they’ll get our business either way. That’s in any industry.

There are lots of ways for them to attract and keep casual players but they don’t seem to actually CARE about doing so. If they did they would make it a lot easier for beginning players to get their feet wet and figure out DFS strategies without losing all of their money in a matter of weeks.

      RG Overall Ranking

    I am conflicted about this.

I love the late swap feature and especially love to be able to have lineups with late starts that I can adjust based on the early games flow, however I can see DK’s point about fairness and enjoyment.
I had two direct experiences last year:
Once a player in my cash lineup was scratched like a minute before game lock, I got the alert but I was driving and it took me a few seconds to pull over and open the app…. alas, I was late in swapping the player out…
The other time the scratch occurred actually about 20 minutes before lock, but I was in a meeting and phone was off.

I can see people that feels they will never be in the position I was those two times being upset as they obviously have a big advantage, but quite frankly this does level the playing field.

Finally. The MAX entry guys who can rely on scripts and ability to re-optimize their lineups every time a news item breaks will have their already huge advantage reigned in a little bit

I only played NBA on Fanduel last year because it didn’t have late swap. I am a casual player that just wants to throw 10 bucks in a night and have something to root for. I will play on DK now with the rule changes. I can see why people who play DFS to earn an income from this would be pissed because it takes away some of the edge.

What people aren’t understanding is that DFS can exist because it’s “a game of skill”….skill requires research and decisions based on certain factors, one of them being able to understand late breaking news and applying changes…..when you start taking the skill out of a “skill game”…and now just hoping that there is no late scratch on the west coast games, this goes more towards gambling…..I’m not sure if Curry will play so I’ll just gamble my money and hope he will, instead of just got a lineup alert, Curry is in….he’s a must in all formats….HUGE difference

DFS can exist first and foremost because someone can make $ offering it. Then, somewhere long after that in priority, is whether it can be offered without violating the maze like restrictions of the American legal system.

You don’t even have to sit in front of your computer all night. NBA games start at a few different times at night and news on lineups typically comes out before then. By 3 PM pacific I already will generally know if anyone significant is going to be out for the early games. Just check your phone 2 or 3 hours later and see if the same applies for the 7 and 7:30 PM Pacific games on the later slate. It takes like 2 minutes.

They probably did it to make the transition smoother when FD and DK merge

  • Mekong83

Late swap was an option. No one was forcing you to use it. They sure as hell didn’t ask for my feedback

  • jgtl25

WOW!!!! huge news !!! just fell off my chair at work reading the email!!! who’s tournaments are gonna be better now FD or DK?!? we will see !

It levels out the playing field by screwing the people who get affected by a late swap. Lets say a 30% player gets screwed. Then that 30% will automatically lose in everything. If you get a 0 in nba you wont cash any cash anything. Not even cash game.

Ever have a great lineup wrecked because of a late scratch out of nowhere?

I can’t think of anything that would tilt and turn me away from DFS more than that

Have always played on DK for that reason

  • BleechDaddy

Love your thought process. Im not a fan of taking out late swap, but completely agree with the new added skill of lineup construction. You can theoretically play 4 centers in a lineup now. Great for cash games! They are most likely not going to change, so lets embrace it. Last year on nights I couldnt be active I would play fanduel. Hopefully it does help the industry grow.

  • Sizmik

Fan Duel setup is WWWAAAYYYYY better for NBA, and literally the only reason most DFS players are on DK for NBA is late swap…..you get G,F, and util in DK where it makes you pick positions in FD which is a lot more “fair”….and let’s be honest, it’s not the casual players that fill up the contests

  • thetitanlb

I guess by fairness they mean if you are lucky enough to not get affected by a late scratch on any random night. Cool beans.

we have increasingly received feedback from players who have decreased their play or even stopped playing completely

and now you are/will be receiving feedback from players who will decrease their play or stop playing completely because they get frustrated after receiving zeroes in their lineup. Nothing in DFS is more frustrating than losing because of a late scratch.

If you don’t have the ten minutes it takes to swap in late news, some would argue you shouldn’t be playing.
It’s not material, non-public info. Completely available to any and everybody

Do you have kids? I’d be willing to wager anything that you don’t. If you do have kids I’ll play you heads up in NFL this weekend and I have to roster Kaepernick

If you havent realized, sites are trying to make the games fairer and have more people winning. This evens the playing field for the people who arent constantly checking their news feeds.

Maybe they could do away with player selection altogether and assign players randomly to each person’s team. Then we’d truly have an even playing field without any advantages.

  • KillerKen

The “casual” player doesn’t keep the lights on there sir. The downer of a late scratch (that could have been avoided) is a huge negative for the customer.

It’s going to depend on the payouts. I refuse to play on DK if they plan on paying the top prize less than 5% in order to pay over 25% odd entrants.

  • ericsals

Unlike baseball or football, lineups aren’t announced hours before game time. In the NBA they are announced very shortly before. Putting in the time and effort to know who is playing and who isn’t playing is part of the skill of DFS. It feels as if this is a move that can reward those who are more willing to “gamble” on a lineup over those who put in the research and effort.

Also, what about having contests that are late swap eligible and those that aren’t and do a true comparison to see where the players are playing.

  • shoots222

Couldn’t have said it better myself!

  • JustDFSin

How many people will leave DK to go play at FD compared to how many people will switch from FD to DK is the question? To answer that I don’t see many people leaving DK
