A 3 day trip to Toronto in February costs $5-6K USD in DK’s estimation? It probably doesn’t even cost half that to stay in the city for three nights and eat out for nine meals.

This is really disappointing. I love Toronto, live here, etc, etc, but this isn’t exactly where you want to be in February. I was in Miami last year and it was great. DK sent out to a survey to all participants of last year’s FHWC and I’d be SHOCKED if the results actually pointed to Toronto. I think they’re clearly going to try to make it a uniquely hockey experience, which I get, but I definitely think they should have picked somewhere warm (Tampa is the best team in the league, the atmosphere in the rink there is amazing, the weather is slightly more vaction-y).

I’m sure it’ll end up being fun, and the Leafs are at home two of the three nights it runs so maybe there will be a game included, but I still can’t wrap my mind around how much they have allotted for the “trip.”

Maybe I’ll get to field grounders with Robbie at the SkyDome?

How do other people feel? Am I the only one who isn’t thrilled?

I am the guy that finished in 2nd @felder you goof.

It was known Smith was expected to be out at 6:45 EST. See tweet below, game didn’t start until 8 pm EST.

Nice try. Hope you enjoyed your fish dinner. Thanks for the all time bad beat.

The bad beat sucks, and you’re right to be really frustrated, but the aggressiveness towards Felder isn’t appropriate or warranted.

In any event, he says he was at dinner with friends and wasn’t keeping up on the news. Thus, it doesn’t matter when it came out.

Both OT goals in the late games

With all 3 assists to win by 0.1. A lifetime of run good in a 1 hour span.

Holy shit man, are you being serious right now? You’ve handled this in about the worst way imaginable. Were you raised by a pack of wolves?

  • KindGuy

Congrats Felder, ignore that user’s rudeness. If anything, he should be happy you picked Smith as it actually wouldn’t have been all that close had you picked an active goal.

    Jesus Christ, some people man.

    Make better lineups.

Also, this appears to be your first post even though you’ve been a member since 2014. Nice debut, you douche.

Thanks elementasrat! The comments don’t bother me. I’ve been on the other side of it plenty of times to know the frustration. But it’s funny, as you said, if I saw the Smith news and swapped, it wouldn’t have been as close.

You played Craig Smith who was a scratch, in a 1k lineup. Fish always get there some how.

Malmstrom is one of the best in the game, I don’t think he ever needs to worry about making better lineups.

LOL Boomer !!! and hell yeah JayWilly !!

@elementasrat – No I was not raised by a pack of wolves, actually a pack of sled dogs and was really looking forward to taking them to the live final since we all live down the street from where this is being held and thought it would be nice to sleep in a hotel for once instead of our igloo.

Honestly don’t feel like I was being aggressive towards Felder at all. Was simply telling like it is and that I thought he was a fish. You can call it poor sportsmanship or whatever the hell you want, but in reality. I was only speaking the truth. Sorry if that offends you.

Obviously a bit of tilt to go along with it in there. Now that I have slept and smoked about 20 joints, I would like to congratulate Felder on that amazing run good, never seen anything like it. Had to be less than 1% chance of winning before those OT’s started.

I don’t want a beer or a hug either man. All I simply want and ask is that when you make your lineup at the final just make sure every player in your lineup is actually playing.

Hockey isn’t like NBA where you always have to stay glued to your phone the whole night looking for injury news. I didn’t end up with Smith on either of my two lineups, but had strongly considered it (heck, I have a Craig Smith jersey :). I was at dinner too and would have missed the news if I had played him. He had missed practice, but it was described as a maintenance day, so there was little concern throughout the day that he’d miss out. Yes, the concern started at 5:45ish, but that’s still late for DFS purposes. Ragging on Felder for having him is unwarranted. Having the flex in an earlier start time is a little more worthy of criticism, but not the end of the world. Bad beats happen to everyone in DFS. This one is definitely brutal, but in the long run, things tend to even out on both sides.

  • Quickparty

Entering in 1k Qs and not checking on line changes/injuries just seems like a horrific idea, but that’s just me I guess?
Absurdly bad beat / absurdly good #rungood. That is all.

Got to say got a few chuckles out of this thread and brightened up my holidays. All things considered, I think malmstrom89 handled it better than I may have, and Felder had me legit lol with his you want a hug gif. Craig Smith aside that was by far the worst beat (or best run good) I have witnessed in NHL. Right up there with the poor Fanvice cat who lost the Milly on a kick return lateral fumble. That’s poker though, baby.

And speaking from personal experience, bad beats in Qs never even themselves out!

    Congrats Felder and GL malmstrom.

  • malmstrom89

Yeah, shit happens. I do think some of you are ignoring the fact that this wasn’t a $5 h2h but was a 1k qualifier to a live final. I would have much rather lost by 3 or 4 with an active player than by 0.1 with Smith not playing, but it is what it is. Time to move forward.

GL to Felder at the final

How is getting a zero from a winger in hockey a bad beat? Hockey players get zeroes all the time in DFS. Am I missing something?

You are focusing on the wrong part. The Smith play was just negligent for a contest of this importance/buy-in. Hitting perfect on both OT goals and all 3 assists in the last 2 games of the night playing is as bad of an NHL beat as I’ve seen (Probably worse than when ColinDrew was a big favorite to ship a Q, but had to play Korbinian Holzer because Randy Carlyle is an idiot who likes to sit his best players).

Malmstrom’s 1% is quite generous. With 15 minutes left in the slate, Felder probably had less than $50 equity in the $16,000 ticket. But he got there and has a helluva story how. So good job.

Based on your profile, I’m going to assume you haven’t had anything near a 5 figure bat beat. I’ll forgive you for not realizing that immediately after it happens, you’re brain and filter aren’t always properly functioning.

Bad beats are all about timing. Had all of these OT goals happened earlier in the night, it probably wouldn’t have been dramatic. They just happened to be the last two games of the night and led to a dramatic comeback. FWIW, I’d be tilted too if it happened to me. Not saying the frustration isn’t warranted, but just to avoid the personal attacks for the Smith play.
