    Hello Fellow DFs’ers,

Whats up with the DK slates lately? Higher entry fees, small amount of guaranteed contests as compared to the past? I like playing GPP’s but I dont like playing 20,000 entry contests and there isn’t much to choose from. Feels more like they want people max entering now. To me thats like playing the lotto.

What are you looking for? Today is single entry Saturday so they have a lot of single entry GPP’s that are smaller. The problem has been that they have been making them too small so they are full hours before lock. I am in the $4 single entry GPP with 2,972 players today.

There is also less players as in the past so naturally contests won’t be as big as they were a few years ago. Sites will also always cater more to the high volume player as they account for most of the rake paid but there still is always single entry options every day as that is all I play.

I was disappointed in the NBA GPPs and blamed MLB. Look at MLB and the GPPs are just as terrible. Way to go DK!! Guess I will be forced to spend time with my family. At least that was their lame excuse for removing NBA late swap.

I was able to get into that $4.00 one as well. Thats a decent sized contest and they need to do more of these. The contest offerings lately though haven’t been good across the board.

I have not gained any understanding of why late swap was removed from NBA. Makes no sense when every other sport offers late swap.

With the way the contest offerings have been, it feels to me that there is a crack in the hull of the ship and DK is losing market share. So they are making a mistake going solely after players who max enter GPP’s.

Their excuse was that it made the NBA experience more enjoyable if you could just set your lineups and forget about them. Plus you checking for occasional updates would detract from family time. Everyone knows that all gambling entities deeply care about the customers personal lives. Gambling? My bad, I meant skill games.

I only play golf and soccer at this point and both DK and FD are offering terrible slates right now.

Soccer tends to be full up to an hour before kickoff (gotta protect that 1K in rake rather than trying to grow your business and serve your customer base) and is literally 1/3rd the size it was at its peak on both sites. They shrunk contests and crippled the product (even though they were almost always filling) because the geniuses who run these sites don’t seem to understand that a 5 game slate with all relegation candidates not filling doesn’t mean that overall interest in the product has dropped.

Golf is a hot mess and basically an example of how to NOT run a business. Killing off Euro golf for no reason (again shrinking contests after they fill, and not understanding that a EURO alternate event not filling doesn’t mean that there is no demand for the top tier events), and constantly messing with main tournament types after killing off the super popular $3 150 max with 10% to first. (always filled early even for garbage fields at huge sizes, so of course it was killed off). The next main tournament on DK is a $5 150 max 20% to first, 15.8% rake, almost 20% of prize pool towards giving out $8 mincashes. It’s so bad that I think I won’t play the main tourney on DK for the first time in over 3 years.

Stop playing! You’ll show them! Or keep playing and stop crying. Your choice.

Between the 3 daily sports going on and so many split slates in mlb it just seems like everything has taken a hit. Also i think a lot of people have tapped out the nba because hardly any of the games matter.

i would expect big contests to return this week.

  • qatman

I think current regulations are max 20 entries at price points below $5, but I may be mistaken. Either way, I agree that the contests are neither entertaining nor profitable (except for the sites). 15+% rake is absurd. Still, they’re the only legal game in town, so here I am.

When (if?) sports betting becomes legal, DFS as we know it will basically end. I can’t wait.

DK tends to do this, but it apparently isn’t the rule. Just checked and FD has a $4 UCL tournament with 1588 entries (that will be full before lineups even come out for the game) and it is 44 max (just under 3% if you want to enter 44 Lus in this dinky tournament on a 2 game UCL slate for some reason).

It was so much better a few years ago when you could expect consistent NBA tournaments, especially on FD, everyday. Now they are just f’ing with us.
You used to have the $25 slam, which now on any given night can be anywhere from 25, 33, 44 or 66 bucks.
You used to have the shot, which was generally 3 bucks. Now you have crap like contender shot for 9.99, playoff shot for 7.77, bubble shot for 4.44, cellar shot for 2.22
You used to have the dribbler for a buck.

I really would like to see some consistency and have the same tournaments, for the same entry fee, for the same prize pool, every night.

    Sadly, that is all true^
I pretty much have given up hope for DK @ times
Even with FD, it’s like the goal of the business model is to just suck

I have not gained any understanding of why late swap was removed from NBA. Makes no sense when every other sport offers late swap.

Late swap is way more important in NBA than it is for other sports due to the fact that late scratches are far more common, thus someone who has the time and means to constantly check statuses will have a far greater edge. Since NBA is a weekday game you have 10:30 start times if you’re on the east coast and if you’re like me and often wake up at 5:30AM you don’t want to stay up monitoring news to see if anyone got ruled out at 10:17.

Personally I’m fine with it either way, because F it I’ll just sacrifice sleep but the vast majority of casual players aren’t willing to do that. Late swap greatly favors the sharks, because they not only have the time to make these adjustment but they also know how to properly make the adjustments.

It was their way to hurt the sharks who were the biggest gainers from late swap and assist the less engaged user.

As an example when Tyreke Evans was scratched a while ago 5 mins after classic lock, the pick’em lock started 30 minutes later so you could still do whatever you wanted. There was 25 minutes to take him out before that started, yet he was still 20% owned in the pick’em gpp! None of the sharks had him. Now they’re competing against 20% dead lineups and are above average to begin with anyway. The money flows so quickly to the top in these cases that they’d need to market tirelessly to keep replacing the 20% that have no chance every night a scratch happens.

But every sport besides basketball has late swap contests with a decent prizepool

It’s obvious they’re artificially shrinking the smaller buyin contests to filter people into the higher dollar ones. More rake, well played DK.

    A. One person ain’t gonna “show them” anything for starters.

    C. I’m not crying about anything.

DK’s strategy is to spend 99.9999% of time and energy on lame tricks, gimmicks and ploys and .00001% on legitimately improving their product. How else can you explain what you described or that the MLB main slate has filled 1 hour early every day for the past 4 years?
