I was surprised to see that there was not a best ball thread for discussion. Assuming the mods have no issue with one being created, I may as well kick things off.

The biggest takeaway I have from my earliest DK BB drafts is that Jameis Winston is wildly under valued this year. In BB in particular I don’t see any legit argument for going QB early. There are a lot of reasonably safe bets for 4000 yards going at QB3 prices between Winston, Goff, and Roethlisberger. There are also plenty of guys with high week to week upside like Daniel Jones and Fitzmagic available late.

Are you guys really leaning into QB late as a strategy this year too?

I am looking for a BEST CASE scenario. I’m doing very little to hedge that team. When I am drafting a QB/TE/WRs I am looking to stack an offense as much as possible to leverage that team’s spike weeks.

These are contradictory statements. You are looking for the Best Case scenario / not hedging. Then you draft a bunch of receivers from the same team as a hedge that they will score the most points when most likely it’s spread around.

It’s not like I don’t draft 8 receivers. We are talking about receiver #9 & 10. I 100% want a 30 point last round WR but my reality last year was Jimmy Graham ended up helping my teams out way more than any of those Olabisi Johnson type receivers last year.

You can certainly have a top couple round pick miss a few games have them come back and still win it all, especially if you are doing the tournaments in which you just need to finish in the top 2 and then ball out and have everyone healthy in the playoffs. It’s a balancing act and with 1 more game a long season

  • periewe

It is all about value…if you grabbed Henderson, Edwards and Robinson in the later rounds earlier in the year and missed the Akers/Dobbins land mines you may only need 5-6 RBs but if you grab a hero or start the draft with WR, TE, QB you will need the RB depth as you still have score those two spots in your lineup. This is about the only reason to grab backups and not go too heavy on RBs early.

Kamara 6 TD game propelled a ton of people last year.

    This.

People spend so much time mining for the biggest score possible in the championship rounds while completely ignoring that one or two ill timed zeros can cost you a playoff spot.

Also, if none of them get hurt it’s also very possible that your 3rd stringer still gets 2-4 best ball starts for your team cause of variance.

Is anyone really playing best ball for a min cash? I’m not

Haha, I’m not playing for a min cash at all. I’m just not burying my head in the sand and praying for 17 straight weeks of health for all my best players. You can’t win anything if you miss the playoffs.

Yeah I don’t get it. There are plenty of times that the teams that missed the playoffs in fantasy football, would have won the championship.

If you’re going with 7+ RBs or 9+ WRs and then drafting guys like Singletary, Michel, James White, or slot receivers like Corey Davis, Beasley, and Landry you’re shooting yourself in the foot.

My teams are chock full of home run / strikeout receivers: Cooks, M.Jones, & Ruggs

    Then again anything can happen.

The only part I disagree with is Beasley. I took a flyer on him late last year and I recall my brother saying how low his ceiling was.

Then, go figure, as the weeks piled up and my boom or bust guys kept repeatedly going bust, who do you think just kept showing up in my WR3 or Flex? F’n Cole Beasley. There’s something to be said about getting 13 points you can set your watch to.

He’s my 5th or 6th WR a lot this year. I’ve been hammering the area between the 4th and 10th rounds at WR repeatedly and when you leave there with 5 WRs it’s a pretty comfortable spot.

This best ball is different no matter how many times I play it.
I spent a ton of time on my prep, adjusted, drafted, adjusted drafted…….
    I played 5 and stopped.

I really wish that DK would allow us to download the approx draft order.
By my 2nd draft, I did my own draft order, which screwed up what everyone else was probably looking at. I chose 35 players and having them 1-35 in the draft order sucked. Maybe I will go back to default then hurry up and “star’ my picks instead.

I seemed to have issues with 1 position each draft. because If 1 of my picks were sniped, I was always choosing next man up. LMAO, I was always getting sniped.

I feel much more comfy with my teams than I did last year, so maybe I have hope.

    Good Luck everyone

  • BIF

Just did another one of the $20 entries – think I have 11 or 12 of them now; in this one I was able to build some multi player stacks from Zona and TB

Kyler, Conner, D-Hop and AJ Green
Brady, RoJo, Bernard, A Brown, Gronk

Other players I have on this one includes stud WRs: Tyreek Hill, Allen Robinson and hopeful upside late picks Pringle and Peoples-Jones.

My RBs are likely not great for 100 yds bonuses or multi-TD games but think I should get enough out of 2 of them weekly (Sanders, Michel, Conner, RoJo, Pollard, Bernard and a Boston Scott handcuff for Sanders) to not destroy me as my WRs (Tyreke, DHop, ARob and Antonio Brown) light up the scoreboard. Also having Kyler is like an extra RB.

I think my TEs are ok and someone should get 10 or more a week with Gronk, Cook and Jarwin.

Out of my 11-12 Best Ball lineups, this is probably my 2nd favorite top to bottom as I feel like I have some good upside guys and a few guys who could be injury replacement studs.

    first draft in

no stacks. I’m not good with stacking when it comes to fast drafts.

    QB: Hurts, Ryan, Lawrence
RB: McCaffrey, CEH, Moss, Penny, Darrel Williams
WR: AJ Brown, Julio Jones, DJ Moore, Chase, OBJ, Fullerv, Campbell, Dyami Brown, Chris Hogan
    TE: Goedert, Henry, Firsker

    90.79%
    93.43%

    Just did a draft. Ty’Son went 90th.

    3 Teams had 4 QBs and 1 had 5!

    WTF!

I had to get 4 myself (All in the last 7 rounds – Cousins, Taylor, Bridgewater, & Lock) just because I kept holding out in disbelief more would be picked. I have a hell of a positional player core tho

For the record when I said QB’s were good to have I meant 3…

In Best Ball contests, participants will draft a lineup via a live snake draft and contests will last multiple weeks of the season. After the draft there are no trades or roster management. Each week of the contest your highest scoring players are automatically your starting lineup and count toward your team’s overall fantasy point total.

DK draft rooms pretty sharp right now.

No one auto-drafting in the current $20

Gus Edwards still available at 123 (he got hurt today)

    edit: still available at 183

QBs and TEs go so early on DK I keep drafting 3 of each because my top QBs and TEs are no good.

    update

    90.47%
    91.48%
    96%

looks like all three may fall just short of filling

    Gus out for the year.

In my last BB draft, RB’s went so fast that my zero (near zero) strategy, being in the 12th position, put me at a real disadvantage when I didn’t take a RB at 12 and 13. I don’t care how good your receivers are when that happens.

It’s Best Ball – you don’t set lineups; it’s ride or die with the guys you drafted and the best scoring players each week make up your lineup. Basically you get your optimal result each week and hope it’s a better cumulative than 10 of the other 11 entries after the 14 weeks. Then you will advance to the playoffs and get paid.

  • winnerchickendinner

Went heavy with Was/Jax/Bufpass catchers and their quarterbacks as they have some of the easiest projected pass defenses to face during the playoff weeks and overall in the season per sharpfootballstats. Washington gets Dallas and Philadelphia twice during those playoff weeks along with Las Vegas.

Also went heavy on Williams and Gordon from the Broncos as they have the easiest run schedule from the website. Banking on one of them emerging or they can be productive in tandem.

No Seahawk players as they have both bottom 3 run and pass defense schedule this year

  • Supersharpie

I just went “best player available” and was often able to grab guys three to four rounds after they should have been picked based on their rankings.

Most of my teams are of the 3-6-8-3 configuration.

  • Rickytango13

Have one with 115.36 from Brady Godwin brown and gronk. Evans Gallup and zeke dudded
