I was surprised to see that there was not a best ball thread for discussion. Assuming the mods have no issue with one being created, I may as well kick things off.

The biggest takeaway I have from my earliest DK BB drafts is that Jameis Winston is wildly under valued this year. In BB in particular I don’t see any legit argument for going QB early. There are a lot of reasonably safe bets for 4000 yards going at QB3 prices between Winston, Goff, and Roethlisberger. There are also plenty of guys with high week to week upside like Daniel Jones and Fitzmagic available late.

Are you guys really leaning into QB late as a strategy this year too?

That team, however, is already down Cook, Dionte Johnson, Antonio Brown,

None of these guys are out long term so your not out much if you survived this week.

Yup! I build my teams specifically to overcome 2-3 week injuries so this is no problem. I’m not the type of player who simply assumes everything will go as planned.

Good thing I only did two teams as I’m doing poorly like last season.

Team 1: Saquon, Samuel, Penny, Slayton, Nico Collins hurt. Ranked 6/12
Team 2: McCaffrey, CEH, Julio Jones, Fullerv, Penny, Dynami Brown, Goedert hurt. Ranked 7/12.

I couldnt take it anymore, I had to make a spreadsheet of my own to track standings.

I am pleasantly surprised. DK shows me with $0 and a top ranking of 1 entry at 3rd place.
    Out of 5 entries I have 1 1st and 2 2nds and a 9th and 10th

I know they update at specified times, I just cant wait I guess.

my teams were brutal this week with all the byes and injuries

one team had Dak and Herbert on bye so I had drafted a third QB to cover for the bye week. It was Wilson, who got hurt early. Like 2 points.

Then my other team had the following RBs

    CMac, hurt
    Darrel Williams, did nothing
    CEH, hurt
    Moss, bye
Penny, maybe coming back after inexplicably missing months

Just checked in on my squads. Can’t believe how many have either Derrick Henry, Robert woods, or both. Do have one that looks promising if jonathon Taylor can stay healthy. Best of luck everyone and hope to see some of you in January!

2 weeks to go – 11 lineups in the $20
    2 in 1st
    1 in 2nd
    1 in 3rd
    1 in 4th
    6 with no chance

    Chip and a Chair

  • BlueEdwards

Good luck. I have the same mentality.

    2nd, 6th, 10th. DOH

  • bigez952

I have 15 entries and 4 in 1st place and 2 in 3rd. I have 1 monster team that is a lock to move on with a 250 point lead over 2nd. A couple of my lower point total 1st place teams have Mattison so hopefully he is the key piece to drive to and through the playoffs.

  • BlueEdwards

Deebo going down could sink my best teams. Get well soon mr. Samuel!

week 12 in the books and 2 weeks to go. I got some good matches going. I mean in 2(of 5) contests 1) the top 4 is seperated by 25 pts 2) 1 person with a run a way win and next 3 seperated by 9 pts.

I was assuming everyone had ir problems but that is not the case. My RB’s are decimated on my contending LU’s, but I am good at WR with several TE’s that have popped one week or another. QB was great when Allen/Stafford were doing their thing. Lately they have let me down.

I know I cant predict injuries (except SF RB’s always go down then backup is a stud then again and again) but I am questioning the draft battle for RB’s at start of draft.

On 1 hand you cant knock the 50Pts in 1 week a stud back can do for you. ( across my 5 contests the average of all players/weeks is upper 130’s (135-139 in mine). On the other, they get hurt. Sorry for the McCaffrey/Henry owners.

    according to my stats
    Jonathan Taylor 306.1
    Cooper Kupp 295.2
    Josh Allen 283.14
    Justin Herbert 274.5
    Tom Brady 271.42
    Jalen Hurts 269.7
    Matthew Stafford 256.34
    Patrick Mahomes 255.8
    Lamar Jackson 248.18
    Deebo Samuel 246.9

    7 of top 10 are QB’s

  • BlueEdwards

Woods went before Kupp in almost every draft and I fell for it. Oh what could’ve been.

And that’s why you don’t draft QBs too early as there isn’t a ton of drop off until you get past the Top 6-8 of them and you can only get one QB spot to count weekly.

BUT you also don’t want to wait until too late as you don’t want to end up with 2-3 QBs from the teams that are bottom feeders and/or teams with fluid QB situations where the opening day starter was unlikely to play more than 8 games due to a rookie or vet QB waiting for the tap to go in.

Basically you want a good QB but you don’t want to over-draft and waste precious early round RB/WR draft capital on them but make sure you either get 1 of the top 8 or else make sure (if you don’t get a top 8 QB) you get 2 in the 9-20 ranking so you have a couple decent options weekly for a good counting score.

  • timusbr

That is a very good point BIF. Lots to choose from, in QB pool and only 1 position can be filled a week. Where the RB is 2 (possibly 3 with the flex) and most volatile as far as injuries go.

My goal for this season was not to finish first or second (although it would be nice and satisfying) It was to set up a draft model for next season. I planned late this year, meaning I tried to have a draft plan, but it really sucked and I was under the gun to get into contests. While I was scrambling, I couldn’t help but see, I was at least better prepared than 9 out of 12 players (guesstimate of my superior ability LOL).

Here is a question for those who started drafting teams early and thru out registration process.

How did you fair in the earlier contest as opposed to the later ones?
did you see a bias towards early birds that had a plan, so early contests were against shark types. did you feel the later contests where gamblers that just had to play and basically picked according to feelings.

I noticed a lot of earlier drafts were very RB heavy so I went zero-RB. As the drafting season went on and a lot of the tout content was geared towards zero-RB, the field shifted and started drafting more WRs early and then I would draft more RB-centric teams.

No rhyme or reason to the strategies at this point since injuries are playing such a huge role. If you drafted Jonathan Taylor you are doing pretty well, if not, you are struggling to catch up.

I did make a point to draft a lot of Chiefs stacks Kelce/Mahomes, Tyreek/Mahomes, Kelce/CEH, Mahomes/Robinson/Pringle. So those teams aren’t doing that great outside of 1-2 spike weeks. Out of 140 drafts I have 45 or so positioned for the next round as of right now. Hoping for the big one!

It’s tough when the zeros start stacking up. Like the guy who on the radio the other day said something to the effect of he looked at his best ball team he drafted early and it has a player that is accused of 22 sexual assaults, a player that faked a vaccine card, and a player that killed somebody-

WOW, I was thinking next year to get as many tickets as I could on best ball and play from there. 140 LU’s, I guess you can forget about using your My contests page to follow your weekly betting. Just too much information that doesnt sort very well.

I focused on BUF/LAR, needless to say, I was doing great the first 1/2 of the season. (Kupp/Woods was a target that exceeded expectations)
I also made the decision to go WR/QB early in the draft and they have carried me to striking distance but I am also decimated at RB with questionable RB plays left Hines/Hyde/Ingram/Davis….

LOL, I have a bunch of those. I got 1 LU in 4th place with 9 of 20 players OUT/IR and zero’s creeping in on the 8 scoring spots. Not promising but a chip and a chair.

Only one week left so you better be within 25-30 points of 2nd place and hope there are some bye-week hits to those ahead of you.

I should be a lock to advance in 2 of the 3 lineups that I’m in 1st but the third one is a tight fight with 3 of us within 20 points – it seemed like every time someone scored a TD yesterday, the top 3 positions in that one contest changed. One of is going to be sad unless there are a few wildcard spots again this year as we all have 1890+ which is better than 3rd in all but one of my 11 drafts – I can’t recall if the $20 entry Milly Best Ball filled or not ??? Anyone remember ?

This is the way it broke down for my teams. All of my teams currently in 1st have Taylor.
