I was surprised to see that there was not a best ball thread for discussion. Assuming the mods have no issue with one being created, I may as well kick things off.

The biggest takeaway I have from my earliest DK BB drafts is that Jameis Winston is wildly under valued this year. In BB in particular I don’t see any legit argument for going QB early. There are a lot of reasonably safe bets for 4000 yards going at QB3 prices between Winston, Goff, and Roethlisberger. There are also plenty of guys with high week to week upside like Daniel Jones and Fitzmagic available late.

Are you guys really leaning into QB late as a strategy this year too?

1 – TE is kind of a black hole after Kelce, Waller and Kittle. Pitts will be the 2nd option behind Ridley in what should be a bad team. It’s not out of the question for him to way over perform just because he will get a lot of targets, playing from behind, on a bad team. I’m limiting my exposure for now but I have some Ryan/Ridley/Pitts so far and not hating it.

2 – Julio is in a great spot. I think he will have a lot of 3 catches for 60 yards games but I can see some 10 catches for 150 yards and 2 TDs when they play a team that’s takes away Henry.

3 – Looooooove OBJ. Especially in the WR3-4 territory where he is now. On about 30 teams I have him on 8-10.

4 – This take on Gurley makes me think. I loathe Daniel Jones and will have zero on 150 teams. But also love Winston on the Saints. I might add in some Gurley late.

I see you posting about Goff and I have largely avoided all Lions. They seem like the worst team in the NFC, why are you high on him?

Because I think he’s a reasonably competent NFL QB who is still young, recently went to a Super Bowl and has played his fair share of games in January, even winning some.

Basically everything Matt Stafford never did.

Let’s not put that on him though. Miserable Lions fan speaking here lol

I guess he gets to prove himself this year though.

This actually seems like a decent reason to target their passing game (maybe?)… if they’re losing, they should be throwing. Might get some huge yardage games like Jameis 2 years ago. Especially when you can get all of their starting receivers late in the draft.

    Draft 3: Pick 8

I started the draft with Jonathan Taylor at 8 followed by Deandre Hopkins, Micheal Thomas and Josh Jacobs. Pretty happy with how it started. I waited on QB again and got Matt Ryan, Daniel Jones, Jared Goff and threw a final round dart on Drew Locke cause football is weird sometimes.

QB – Ryan, DJ, Goff, Locke

RB – Taylor, Jacobs, Eitenne, Robinson (this seems to be a pattern), Drake, someone named Johnson from the Jets and Mack. I’m a handcuff aficionado.

WR – Hopkins, MT, Cortland Sutton 🧐, Landry, HR3 and AJ Green. I feel like Sutton is either amazing value or this will be ridiculous by week 3.

TE – Gronk, Jonnu, and Jimmy Graham. I love best ball.

Hello Sir- Can I ask why you are not stacking the Qb’s and WR/ or Tight Ends? I assume you are only doing small field 10 mans or 3-6 team Sit and Go’s.

I like Stafford, don’t get me wrong. I just don’t understand the hate for Goff. He isn’t Prime Joe Montana but he’s a competent player with some big wins in his career.

What I don’t get AT ALL is the amount that the Rams gave to make a, in my opinion, mostly lateral move at QB. I think there was a lot of friction between Goff and the coach.

These are 12 man leagues on DK with 20 man rosters. I’d love to stack but it’s not always an option.

The best stacks usually involve top QBs that I’m not willing to pay for. I could very well see a scenario where I pair Brady or Rodgers with a WR at some point because they don’t cost a ton.

It was completely nonsensical for them to give up two first round picks. Not to mention they also gave up a third.

I have no idea when Stafford became some kind of elite QB worth wrecking your future drafts for.

He’s 33 and has a pretty lengthy injury history.

I was shocked when I heard about the trade.

At most, Goff to Stafford is a slight upgrade. Certainly not worth all that draft capital.

That was my reaction to the trade but I never posted about it anywhere since there was no NFL offseason thread (well, maybe there is, but not in the main forum). Single craziest move of the offseason, IMO.

Crazier than Tebow signing as a TE?

When I saw him at UFC in Jacksonville I texted my brother that Tebow was gonna sign with the Jags.

    We thought I was joking.

I’m seeing a lot of talk about punting QB almost and maybe I’m being contrarian by getting premium at the position but with zero RB, or close to it, you can build a pretty insane team on DK.

Here’s one I just did where I have two premium QBs and massive exposure to basically the entire passing offense of TB (don’t try this at home)

    QBs
    Lamar Jackson
    TB12

    RBs
    Ekeler
    David Johnson
    Mattison
    Cohen
    Gio Bernard

    WRs
    Davante Adams
    Julio
    Mike Evans
    Marquise Brown (Lamar Stack)
    Aiyuk
    Hilton
    AJ Green
    Rashard Higgins

    TE
    Gronk/Howard/Brate
    Jack Doyle

The floor and ceiling on this team is massive. The whole goal with going Zero RB is to either totally punt with high upside PPR RBs or to tag one of the top 6 RBs in the first round and then focus on every other position until about the 12th round when you start picking up the RBs on a committee in the pass game role.

Love this team. I have about 20 more Zero RB drafts to do before I start going more balanced. I want to have 50 zero RB teams and 50 balanced teams in the preseason window and then another 25/25 once we get a little closer to the season.

  • Prisoncoptodd

Hit me up on 3 mans.

  • thevogaman

Carson Wentz seems like he’s worth a flyer as a 3rd QB. I’ve been stacking him with Doyle and Mo Allie Cox with my last two picks. Even if he’s bad, you can still get a week or two where maybe he Dak’s Jonathan Taylor and steals 2 rushing touchdowns.

I’ve also been comfortable taking the Ebron’s and Dawson Knox of the world at tight end. Having a few extras and hoping they don’t overlap too much on the weeks they score touchdowns.

  • superjon

    Made a WR heavy LU

    QB
    Lamar
    Winston

    RB
    CMC
    M. Carter
    Drake
    Gurley
    J. Jackson

    WR
    M. Thomas
    Evans
    Hollywood
    Waddle
    M. Jones
    Watkins
    Demarcus Robinson
    Callaway
    Lazard
    Isabella
    Higgins

    TE
    Ertz
    Tonyan

Where is the link that shows how many entries have been made and how much overlay exists? This info will dictate how many teams I draft.

Not going to argue that they gave up a lot for Stafford and that it may not be worth it.

Yet have you seen Jared Goff play football? Stafford is more than a “slight” upgrade to Jared Goff, especially on a team that thinks (whether realistic or not) that it can make a Super Bowl run.

An upgrade at the QB position can mean everything, as we saw with Tampa Tom just last year. No I’m not comparing Stafford to Brady, simply pointing out what an upgrade at QB can do for a team with an already strong roster.

  • yisman

Yes, I’ve seen Goff and Stafford play football…

The trade was absurd, plain and simple.

I saw a breakdown of the QB comparison here.

I saw another breakdown, that made Stafford look significantly better. One stat that stood out, was that Goff had roughly a 45% completion percentage under pressure, and Stafford was above 90%.

Goff also had better offensive lines, for all years except 2019, a better play caller, offensive scheme, and surrounding talent.

Plus, McVay knew what he had in Goff, and what he’s getting in Stafford. He’s a pretty good coach, there’s a reason he was willing to make that trade.

I don’t think Goff is terrible, If Goff gets a clean pocket, good play calling, and has talent around him, he can succeed. Yet Stafford is more than a “slight” upgrade over a Goff.

You’ll see that play out this year when Stafford teams up with Mcvay, and Goff gets rookie HC Dan Campbell.

Detroit does have a good O-line so he’ll get a clean pocket (where he had a 105 passer rating last season). Let’s just see what he can do with it sans Mcvay and LA’s skill position players.

Does anyone have last year’s DK Milly Tournament winner’s roster available to dissect?
