Watched the DK video on YouTube, go to 14 minutes in.

1.Added captain mode to showdown
2. Added the following bonus thresholds (3 pts bonus for each)
-3 pts in a game bonus
-goalie makes 35 saves in a game bonus
-blocked 3 shots bonus
-5 shots on goal bonus
3. Boosted scoring to bring average cash line -100 pts nightly
4. Drop faceoffs won as a scoring category
5. Added 2 pts to goalie for an OT loss.
I think DK has ruined NHL 🙄
So Burns is gonna get like 9 bonus pts per game.
Could @DraftKings_CM please come in here to explain why they felt like they needed to make 100 pts the average cash line? Was the scoring ever a complaint? This feels like trying to fix something that was never broken and then breaking it in the process. And why does the losing goalie in OT get nearly the same amt of pts as the winning goalie?
Yeah, this captain mode thing is too much. I understand why we need it in NBA but now baseball and hockey. I thought the plan was to make line up building less time consuming not more. I really got into NHL last year and the faceoffs won was a good way to differentiate yourself. oh well, one less sport to worry about.
Yeah showdown has now been ruined and this turns the whole strategy of line stacking on its head. We cannot play full lines anymore if we want the bonuses.
And you can kiss mass entering goodbye. It’s going to be more time consuming finding which players are more likely to get the bonuses needed to win big. Whereas before the changes you didnt have to worry about all of these unnecessary bonus pts. It’s absurd. Now your fate at cashing will rely on the bonus pts.
Annnnd now people are going to lose a GPP because a losing goalie in OT gets 2 pts.
I don’t even think I’ll play this year and I’ve played since the start.😖
Guess it’s back to FD for NHL for me. A bonus or two is fine, but this is just lotto.

If that is the result it will be the best thing to happen to NHL GPPs ever!
I heard scoring had changed and didn’t look… damn this sucks in every direction!
So are “value D” that block shots gonna be priced at a premium?! And CPT’s for showdown (woof!!
A 3 point game bonus why? I can get a “playmaker” bonus but not 3 point. I guess this makes losing goalies more valuable.
I guess the bottomline on whether this is sustainable or not is the pricing. How will these things be “weighted” into price? Preseason won’t be much of a help for testing either… I hope my DFS experience isn’t ruined. At least I have Yahoo!!!
Ugh.. This is really really bad.
With these changes, they’re making NHL into a total crapshoot.
Adding captains to an already-volatile sport is prioritizing luck over skill (just like in baseball).
And bonuses are going to make everything so lopsided. Basically whatever the bonus amount is, it means that a player who takes 5 shots is going to receive a messy amount of points more than a player who takes 4 shots. Same with blocks and saves where there will be a sloppy divide over what could be just a single arbitrary stat.
Awarding OT losses for goalies?? C’MON MANNN!!!!
It’s like some little kids got together, snorted a bunch of pixy stix, and made up the most bogus format imaginable with blue/green/red/purple snot dripping down their noses.
I want to know who comes up with this crap.
I think it’s pretty telling how they just announced these changes on a random mid week draftkings show (in the middle of the show) rather than giving it it’s own press release. Almost like they’re wishing it goes under the radar. Like, these changes all at once are probably the most of any sport ever. These are drastic changes. Changes the game completely.
I’m thinking the Lightning, McDavid, Crosby, and Matthews will be even more popular now. Obviously there’s more but those were my “go-to” 3 point guys. Can’t forget COL L1 haha
Yeah the value d in the 2500-3000 range can block 3 shots no problemo. That’s what they do. And we were happy with getting a pt or two from them. But now they’ll be getting 5 to 6 pts. Then there are dmen who will block one shot if we are lucky and they definitely don’t get 5 shots on net. Theyre priced in the 4000 5000 range. Will those players prices go lower? This is all messed up.
What happened to the video?
Cry me a river. Suck it up and adapt fellas.

The sole intent of the upcoming scoring changes is to grow NHL daily fantasy contests. We heard the voices of countless NHL DFS users who asked for a more exciting sweat for over a year, one of the ways we can accomplish this is by increasing the average score. This consistent feedback from the player pool was clear upon analyzing the results of a survey we sent to NHL DFS fans in January. We incorporated a third extensive survey this summer with proposed solutions for enhancing the NHL DFS sweat & overall experience. After collecting, analyzing, and reanalyzing this data; we were steered to these changes in support of community feedback. As a final stop, we consulted with some respected players who will remain anonymous for a sanity check before we finalized the scoring change, the result is an evolution for NHL that will add more excitement as you sweat the game while increasing skill through the addition of a Captain position in Showdown contests.
Although we understand change can take some getting used to, we are confident that our solution will grow the NHL DFS community. DFS innovation, whether it’s increased scoring or Captain Showdown Mode, has helped us to be effective in growing other sports we offer. The data gathered through lineup generation and play results, community sentiment, player committees, user interviews, and numerous user surveys supported increased scoring to enhance the sweat of NHL DFS. Increased scoring has been proven to grow games and growing the game will support the larger GPPs we intend to offer. We understand that some players, including a few in this thread, do not embrace change for various reasons. Sometimes it is because they may have to revisit and alter their models – we want you to know that we do understand, but our research tells us that this evolution will be positive for the NHL ecosystem in the long run – helping us to grow the game which benefits everyone.
As we always say, our job is to change the game. DFS is a dynamic industry and if you’re standing still, you’re regressing. Innovation has gotten DFS to where it is today, and it will continue to drive DraftKings DFS into the future.
If you want to learn more about the data supporting these scoring changes, or the year-long-plus customer-centric research process we followed in order to land, please see our formal announcement thread here: https://rotogrinders.com/threads/official-thread-draftkings-nhl-scoring-changes-3108105#reply-3108105

So you think the players who play nba and nfl regularly are gonna start playing nhl because you increased the scoring? And with what money are they gonna play nhl with to make the gpps bigger? Their money is tied up with the two big sports.

I actually don’t mind the changes, and in some cases actually quite like them. The bonuses I maybe would have preferred not to include, but I don’t begrudge trying something different.
I’d also hate to give away the plot here, but the way the bonuses are set up probably won’t detract from stacking (though I agree with Rob in that I wish that they did).
If they hadn’t included the bonuses, the scoring structure actually would have made stacking less obvious, but the addition of the bonus likely keeps things status quo.

We are not predicting that NHL will suddenly become as big as NBA, but we are predicting a bigger season year over year for NHL.
We have insights from countless data points year over year that helps us predict where the entry fees will flow. In addition we have models that help us predict the impact of scoring changes, as the game becomes more exciting to sweat. It might surprise you to know that the ecosystem is growing, not contracting, and we have great insight into the probability of select players evolving into new sports each season.

For the top line stack you should do fine at getting bonuses but for the cheap line stacks it will be harder. These are the lines where you’re just happy getting a full line goal. Now you gotta find the bonuses too. A FLG isnt gonna cut it now if there are bonuses. 3 pts here and 3 pts there is gonna be huge. The difference between cashing and not cashing.
You do understand that a winning score for a gpp now is going to be close to 250-300 pts?
you do realize 3 pts is the same as 2 shots on goal now.. take a breath pal
Shots are still half a point. And don’t tell me what to do or how to feel. thanks.
Take a gander at the scoring and then apologize, sir.
They posted on their offical thread that a shot on goal is 0.5 pts.

It’s not mentioned in your OP, but I think goals are worth 8.5 and assists are worth 5. Everything’s gone up. Goalie wins are worth 6 as opposed to 3 as well, so your concern over the OTL counting for something isn’t really warranted either I don’t think. The 3 pt bonuses won’t be crazy significant, though when three guys on a line pull it off as opposed to a one-off player, that’ll be a big boon to the lineups that have them.
