I see they are really digging deep with the 3% off 27 dollar entries. What a steal! In all seriousness they do not really owe us anything, but I think they could have done a lot better with this promotion.

I’ll never understand why people feel entitled to freerolls, or how there’s a complaint that you’re being offered a discount for no real reason, but that it’s not big enough. Step back and think about that for a minute.

  • gobluetjg91

I did not realize the rake was cut in half – at first, it appeared it was just a few cents off entries

  • NCRick

If you have 2.79 in your account you would appreciate it trust me. I still have 79 cents in my Fanduel account that I will never use. Those worthless pennies must add up for them I bet. Where do they go anyway?

I heard they use those pennies to buy some guy in the basement red Swingline 747 staplers.

I really do appreciate the discount but I do not understand the contests. On Wednesday’s early Black Friday special they had a $5 DU that filled at 23k w/ the muli-entry at 10 yet today they are running a contest at 15.8k with the multi-entry at 100. Personally, I would rather see them take a risk of a tournament not filling and use lower multi entry then a discount with a large multi entry. They didnt have to do anything at all and that is great they are giving back rake.

  • petesdynasty

Maybe draftkings should have made you wait in line in front of the Headquarters on thanksgiving and give you half off an entry for the first 5 people in line.

    Some people in this thread…lmao

  • tysim19

At this point I wish I would have never made this thread. I stand by my comments that I think the promo was a little weak, but I am in no way ungrateful and I appreciate Draftkings and everything they do. They put a lot of entertainment in my life!

First of all, I want to say that I think it’s entirely legitimate for people to criticize a site for running a promo that they don’t think amounts to much. This idea that “they didn’t have to do anything” is absurd. They don’t have to run a for-profit business either, but they do, because there’s something in it for them.

It’s also entirely legitimate to suggest that the site could have seen better results if they’d done more, as in, COULD HAVE MADE MORE MONEY FOR THEMSELVES, which is what the OP was actually saying before the thread got high jacked. Though, it hasn’t actually played out yet so how are we going to asses…

All that said, I really think people saw what looked like a slight discount on entry fees and didn’t realize the discounted rake that it translated to. Half off of rake is a fantastic deal, and I would not be complaining about that. To the OP’s original point, you could make a case that they might have done better to expand it a little bit, but that’s a quibble. Half off rake in FEATURED contests that everyone sees and many play is great. Unfortunately, this fact will be lost on many who don’t pay attention to rake in the first place.

Your big mistake was expecting even a semblance of reading comprehension on an internet forum. As you said, the offer wasn’t breath-taking, but as you also pointed out and many missed, DK was under no such obligation to offer any Black Friday specials.

Please explain how they could have made more money for themselves? All the tournaments filled. There was no overlay in any of them.

They cut their gross revenues (the rake) in this tournament in half. By offering deeper discounts or other promotions, this would have cut the gross revenues even further.

The explanation that “they could have made more money for themselves here” is one of the most ridiculous things I have read in a long time.

  • zachj

Did they send an email out for this? I must of missed it. Damn if I would of know I could of saved 21 cents on an entry I def would bought in for one

Buying 10 sharpshooter tickets and not even getting one for free is a pathetic promo.
Can you please clarify how this is a great promo.

You have to go upwards of 20 entries per contest to remotely get some for free and this is the lowest buy-in.

Oh yeah did anybody else enjoy the great free rolls on thanksgiving? I didn’t b/c there weren’t any.

Draftkings has gotten a ton of money from people that cannot play on fanduel in the last 7 days and this is what they give in return lol.

You have obviously never owned/ran a business & probably never will, you’d never pull it off.

Businesses just can’t keep giving away free money again and again. After awhile, profit cutting promos make the most sense (not cash giveaways), because then the business can still operate profitably, just a bit thinner during that promo. DK/FDs overhead, current promos and possible huge legal bills coming soon are all massive and they like all businesses still need profit to pay those bills, not to mention their investors at some point. The free $3 ticket you get for signing up or referring a friend alone likely costs a fortune to offer, but is a great promotion so anything on top of deals like that are just an added bonus.

This type of comment comes from an entitlement type of mindset, which is like an epidemic in this country right now. Alot of the entitlement people think they are owed something by someone or the govt, and just end up taking way more than they give back, which is unsustainable.

What counts as a great promo for you?.. Free $27 tickets to all, millions just handed out like its nothing?
All of this guys comments are complaining and negative btw.

By far the biggest money sink in FD/DK’s operating budget is of their own making. Handing out 30% of rake to affiliates in perpetuity makes little sense to me and has completely hamstrung how they are able to run their businesses as well the amount of flexibility they have in promotional offers. Not a knock on affiliates by any means, just shocking that both of the big sites thought this was a viable long-term business strategy.

Customer aquisition is very expensive. I am sure it’s much cheaper to pay affiliates than to aquire in other ways

Short-term, it was a fine acquisition strategy. However, when the advertising blitz started, affiliate fees coupled with eight figure quarterly ad runs became untenable. Or do you not think advertising is a direct route to customer acquisition?

It’s always enlightening to hear from a 25 year old that is convinced he has the entire world figured out.

The man raises great points and you nitpick him on that? You explained exactly how they would make more money in your first sentence. Get over yourself. “one of the most ridiculous things in a long time” is exactly how I would explain your post to any unbiased person.

Not knocking the offer, but personally didn’t them compelling enough to enter contents I otherwise wouldn’t have. I would have liked to see them run another offer like the did the previous week with a free entry into to the $3 play action every week the rest of the regular season by entering the milly maker via an email they sent, $20 netted $38 in entry fees.

  • mealhouse

May have been a retargeting campaign based on how many weeks I’d skipped the Milly? I wasn’t sure but loved the offer.

Of course you wish you had never made it. It made you look like a moron. I really liked the “well, Im grateful BUT…” type of backtracking in your subsequent posts – it cemented the stupidity of your original post. DraftKings gave away thousands of dollars to its players in the form of discount entries and discount rake on Friday – but that’s “lame” apparently.

Sorry, but that’s the truth. People bitching for getting a discounted rate into six-figure GPP’s…good lord. As if when you play DFS you’re playing against DraftKings instead of the other players.

And we wonder why this country is going down the toilet.
