Any chance you bring back the old NHL scoring system as an option? I really cannot stand the current one at all and I used to play NHL daily. The current one is much more like a lottery and less like skill. Thanks.

Ok so I think the all-star break is a good time to address something that has plagued NBA DFS this year: the prevalence of the post-lock scratch.

Lock the NBA contests at 7:05.. 10:05.. give the 5 additional minutes to adjust to a late scratch..

99.9% of the time the games start 10 minutes after the indicated start time, however on rare occasion, like Holiday weekend slates, I’ve seen games start on time. So there would have to be a work around of some sort.

Lineups may be edited at any time leading up to games. Each individual player will become “locked” at the scheduled start time of their team’s game. To maintain a fair and consistent playing experience for all, including those who are not monitoring the latest information, we can not deviate from a game’s official start time.

We are committed to providing our players with the most up-to-date information that affects our Daily Fantasy contests whenever feasible.

On occasion, situations may arise that are outside of DraftKings’ or our players’ control – we know how frustrating late scratches can be, you have our commitment to continually work to improve our product to help prevent these situations moving forward. Our Contest Ops and Game Ops teams work night in and night out year-round to ensure we provide the best DFS experience around – and in this instance the pre-defined contest rules were followed to the letter.

Or maybe a company with a market cap of 25 billions pays one person to watch/monitor every game (if they don’t already), double check stats and…. CLICK THE MOUSE WHEN THE REF HAS THE BASKETBALL IN HIS HAND TO TIP TO LOCK THE GAME…. mind blown?

Trust us when we say that this idea has been proposed many times by well meaning customers who assume it’s the solution to all lock problems. In reality if it was possible, wouldn’t our competitors have implemented a manual lock long ago?

Why do you think this is? Before we respond with our insights, we are really curious to see what the RotoGrinders community thinks is the reason. What say you forum?

Yeah, I’m not touching a contest with that kind of payout structure. It’s absolutely disgusting.

Different strokes and all that! My stats and ROI are screaming at me to not touch a contest UNLESS it has that kind of payout structure. Glad there are choices out there for both of us, it’d be lousy if either of us had to stop playing because our preferred format was eliminated entirely.

Wish I could play more golf showdowns, but DK always has only one contest with good $, and this is always expensive and top heavy. example: $250k with $20 entry tomorrow. Why not atleast put one contest like $30 to $50k with $4-$5 entry. Why appease only the big game hunters? Step up your game DK.
    Edit. I see you added a $5- $20k.

Different strokes for different folks is exactly right. We want to make sure we have a little something to offer everyone, while keeping the big picture in mind to grow the DFS ecosystem as a whole. This benefits us all!

And believe it or not, the same contest structures you avoid actually benefit you in the long run, they help keep your peers who they do appeal to in the ecosystem. When contest structures perform poorly, we refrain from offering those structures in the future. Any contest structure posted regularly is intended to meet that contest’s level of demand. Offering something for everyone allows us to offer the biggest prize pools in the industry, which is ultimately in everyone’s best interest!

PS: The contest filled without any problems. We understand that it may not appeal to you, but clearly it appeals to others. We are well balanced, the system works while steadily growing the game year over year. In summary, a contest that you may not like might help us make this NHL season bigger than ever before.

DK please add 10-11% rake Hundo’s and Quintuple ups on your NHL slates. I rarely or never see them. But they would always be there in NBA or other sports.

We shared your request with our Contest Ops team yesterday, and they welcomed the suggestion by posting the Quintuple Up that you requested, it was a good opportunity for them to test the waters. Unfortunately the demand for the contest was not great, we were rooting for its success. Regardless, you have our commitment to keep an eye out for any opportunity to run a similar contest in the future.

Don’t let your algorithm wait too long to react to demand because the demand may leave before it does.

When demand remains consistent over a period of time, contest sizes gradually adjust until we find the proper balance, supported by A/B test results and data science modeling. DK and our players alike have a common interest in growing the entire DFS ecosystem, and oversizing contests can have just as much of a negative impact as undersizing in the long run. We’ll get there, we just need to take it one step at a time. #TrustTheProcess

Eventually there could be “late swap” in sports like UFC,Tennis etc thanks to this concept…..lock players when their event actually starts

We are able to offer late swap for traditional sports, such as NFL and NBA, because their league rules do not allow for games to start prior to the scheduled start time. This ensures a fair and consistent drafting experience for all, and is one of the requirements to make a sport late swap eligible. Late swap is not an option for sports such as MMA and Tennis, where a fight or a match may start earlier depending on how quickly the fight/match before is completed.

Any chance you bring back the old NHL scoring system as an option? I really cannot stand the current one at all and I used to play NHL daily. The current one is much more like a lottery and less like skill. Thanks.

Our revised and improved NHL scoring system has resulted in greater sport engagement, it has been a success across all metrics in our eyes.

Anytime we make a change to grow the game we are almost guaranteed to disappoint some users who preferred the old method – that is normal and expected. Our goal is to build a contest ecosystem that appeals to the widest array of players, and encourage new customers to the sport. Some of you might like to play against new customers…. Just sayin ;-)

Manual locks would introduce easier ability to manipulate the contests, IMO. And when you have multiple games starting at a specific time, you may need 5 or more employees monitoring their own game. That doesn’t seem like positive ROI for a company, for a situation that doesn’t happen every night. I believe this forum tried tracking it once and saw that, while when it happens it is certainly frustrating, it doesn’t actually happen all that often.

All that said, I am a firm believer that there has to be some sort of solution. Competitors tried dropping the lowest score, that was dumb. We’ve proposed manual locks, to me that’s not the answer either – too easy to manipulate.

Would it be possible to let folks who have this late scratch player swap to player in the same position in the same game post lock? It’s certainly not a panacea, however its better than accruing a 0.

This solution isn’t really fair either as if you did your research and found a lower owned leverage play for something like a PF in a certain game. However then a chalky PF in the same game is a post like scratch and now everyone get the opportunity to blow up your leverage play. I don’t play NBA but this gets brought up all the time in PGA to just allow players to swap to a same priced guy if the one they chose WD’s before they tee off which would increase the ownership of the players in that area post lock which really isn’t fair to those playing the game theory angle to roster lower owned plays.

When has DK changed lock times on a whim that wasn’t following changes made to the official start times given out by the leagues? Or when has DK had lock time past official game start / tee times? I think this issue is more on the NBA then DK. If the NBA says a game will tip off at 7:05 the fact that is is always 5-10 minutes later shouldn’t be on DK but it should be on the NBA to give actual tip off times as other leagues can managed to always start within 1 minute of what they publish. IMO they shouldn’t deviate lock times from official start times so you know the only way it could potentially change is if it comes from the league itself.

My point still stands and yes I agree they have pushed back contests when the leagues themselves push back the official start times. Show the me the cases where DK pushed back lock past what the official start time by the league like you’re asking them to do in the NBA.

I’m assuming it’s because broadcasts are delayed by different lengths on different systems. In other words, if I’m watching on Comcast in New York and you’re watching on DirectTV in Los Angeles and he’s watching on Hulu…and so on…everyone gets the tip/kick-off/whatever at a slightly different time, and there’s often a delay by up to a minute depending on where you’re watching.

Consistency is the key here, our number one priority is to maintain a fair and level playing field for all. Congrats to those of you who guessed correctly!

We believe our current policies provide the most fair and consistent experience possible. With that said, we understand that there can be rare, but frustrating, edge cases experienced industry-wide and we will continue to fight to mitigate those experiences in the future – this is precisely why we have well defined rules which cover these outliers. We plan in advance to the best of our ability to be able to address all outliers.

When has DK changed lock times on a whim that wasn’t following changes made to the official start times given out by the leagues?

    But but but….they would never!……

DK follows the clearly-defined Rules & Scoring outlined on the Contest Details page for each contest without exception. Yes, we have seen the same kind of outrage across social media that you have highlighted, in times like this it is best to stop and ask yourself, is there smoke without any fire? Have the outraged posters read the rules and understood the rules of the contest before they entered? Would DraftKings risk hurting our own contest ecosystem by breaking our own clearly defined rules?

We are held to very high accountability standards, in each instance the lock was compliant with the contest rules which is always accessible at https://www.draftkings.com/help/rules/overview

    MLB
In the event that a game is canceled, postponed, or rescheduled to a time outside of the original Scoring Period, the game will be disabled from the Game Set and players listed to play in that game will not be eligible to accrue points.

Games are “known” to be canceled or postponed once their status is updated as such by DraftKings’ MLB stats-provider, STATS LLC.

    NAS
If a race is postponed before it is scheduled to start and is rescheduled to a later time, DraftKings reserves the right to update contest start times to match the start time of the race.

Races are “known” to be canceled or postponed once their status is updated as such by DraftKings’ NASCAR stats-provider, NASCAR.

Note: For more information on our current MLB PPD policy, please see this thread here https://rotogrinders.com/threads/draftkings-2021-mlb-dfs-ppd-policy-3576361

Language in your promotional page for the 2021 fgwc implies that the 3rd round may be a Live Final (as opposed to a purely online contest like the first 2 rounds). Any chance this will actually be a live event for the northern trust?

Oh, as a friendly heads up, you should have your lawyers or whoever writes your terms and conditions recheck it for the contest and be more careful. For instance, it looks like they copied and pasted portions from the fbwc and forgot to take out references to nba games (not sure why cancelled nba games would impact your golf tournaments).

I would just like to take a minute to thank and applaud DK for taking our concerns seriously enough to host this thread. As I mentioned in a separate post today about how awful the support from Yahoo’s sportsbook/casino partner (BetMGM) is, DK really sets the high bar in this industry for how to provide support to its customer base. You guys always seem to make an effort to listen to us and try to make things right when issues inevitably arise. Bravo!

  • CottonCombsPhD

Just an FYI, I love DraftKings, I’m a DKNG shareholder, I play everyday during NBA and MLB seasons, and I NEVER play at DraftKings! Why? It’s because for NBA, which is primarily my game, the lowest cutline% game I’ve found is 27% for the NBA $50k And One. I only play games at FanDuel where the cutline% is 30%, and where the last winning paid position is a 100% payoff. This structure (30% & 100%) allows me to increasingly build a small bankroll overtime in very small steps. I can see that I’m making money over a month’s time. I come from the horse racing world, and I refer to myself as an “angle player”. Every night I build 20 LU for the .25 Fadeaway, and 50 LU for the .05 Piggy Bank game. The “angle” comes in with my optimizer setup. I don’t spend any time looking over players. I have a setup that I use, it put in 7 settings into my optimizer and run 20 crunches, then 50 crunches, it takes me less than 5 minutes. I do this everyday and I don’t question the lineups. I’m in the money over the long run 48% of the time and it’s making a small amount of money each month. What’s encouraging, is that I reduce the player pool on average to about 55 each night. The next day, after the slate is complete, when I run one crunch from that pool for the highest score, I have the right player pool to win each tourney. So, at some point, I will hit one, but for me, what is most important, that each day while I play, I have enough lineups in the money to keep playing and make a profit. I have tried, over and over, via back testing, to make this work at DK – I can’t make it work, but I can make it work at FD – BUT, to make it work, I need the 30% cutline, and the 100% payout for the last position paid….So that is my #1 request…create a game, with a 30% cutline, and 100% payout for last position paid, and maybe do it at a different price point…I think if you changed your NBA $50k And One to this structure for .50 you would have a big hit, or do it for a $1 with 20 max LU…..(and I’m not interested in a cash game)

You are correct, we intend the 3rd round of the FBWC to be a Live Final (intend being the key word – it’s hard to make a firm commitment during the pandemic). We have not yet made any announcements regarding the location of the Live Final, more details soon!

I see hockey snake drafts are live! Thanks for that…

    • No goalie for full-slate contests (I get it, but BOO!) but we can draft goalies for single slate contests
    • Flexible lineup construction options with multiple flex spots and Forwards instead of dedicated slots for centers and wings – I like it!
    • One Bench position with the lowest score automatically dropped into this slot – I love it, implement this for the NBA and I’ll play the format in basketball as well as hockey
    • (Relevant to me only) limited time for lineup building until Monday means I probably won’t get a chance to dip my foot in until next week :(

You beat us to the news! That’s right, NHL Snake Drafts are now live in the DFS lobby. We appreciate your feedback and look forward to hearing the thoughts of our players as they give it a try. We look forward to the continued evolution of our Snake Draft product, both within, and beyond NHL. Though the future is unknown, this is only the beginning! We do not offer Goalies in either Snake format (Full Slate or Showdown), we know there is a desire by some to play the Goalie position yet our research supports the removal of Goalies within Snakes.
It will be better for the game in the long run.

If this is the case, it might be worth updating the rules page for the single game snake drafts as ‘G’ is listed as an option for the flex positions…

    Lineup Requirements
Lineups will consist of 4 players and must include players from at least 2 different NHL teams. The 4 roster positions are:

    3

    FLEX

    (LW,RW,C,D,G)

    1

    BENCH

    (LW,RW,C,D,G)

Your highest scoring players are automatically your starting lineup. Your non-starting players will make up your bench and their fantasy points will not count toward your team’s overall fantasy point total.

Though we don’t offer Goalies in our NHL Snake Showdown player pools at this time, our rules page accounts for potential future changes. If we choose to add Goalies in the future, you can count on us to announce it to all players in advance!

What is going on with the NBA Best Ball tournaments? We are less than an hour to game time and the standings have not been updated to reflect that today starts Week 2.

Any clarification on what is going on would be appreciated.
