statistical volume based such as touchdowns, yards ect are what we should be getting. The h2h challenge is dumb, so now we are going to get spammed by random people every day asking to play h2h’s, sure we can block them but you can only block so many people. And I wouldn’t expect 25k in crowns for completing 17 weeks.

Yup. Play more, earn more. Not play more, more chances. I’m already playing more NFL lineups because I want more chances to make money. If I go 0/100 or whatever, I want to know I’m getting 100 lineups worth of progress towards achievements. The typical user isn’t going to stumble on ridiculous volume achievement tiers, so it shouldn’t be an issue of giving too much away or something.

  • JaBr

    Seriously?
Unique Head-to-Head contests – this one sucks
    Shut-out is fine
Bargain is fine OR 90+ is fine

Each sport seems to have a tough ‘luckbox’ achievement – PGA: ‘The Ace’ – MLB: ‘Mr. No-No’

NFL seems to have 2 in ‘Bargain Hunter’ and ‘Big Play Beast’
They must not consider ‘Bargain Hunter’ to be on the same level though, only paying out 350 for the 1st level. One would assume there will be more than the 1st level.

No yardage – passing, rushing or receiving achievements
250 TD’s for the 1st level seems pretty high actually compared to other sports.

Pretty disappointing overall considering NFL is the biggest product and these achievements seem both less interesting and worthwhile compared to MLB or even PGA (Birdies, 6/6, Top-5’s, etc.).

  • Smallchimp

NFL definitely needs the least motivation to get players to play, there’s the smallest “dog days” period out of the DFS sports. But still, achievements are good ways to keep smaller-time players shooting for the levels that they’re relatively close to

We just completed our first year of DraftKings Achievements. When we first started, it was MLB only. Football 2018 was our second attempt at offering Achievements. As we enter the second season of Football Achievements, we would like to take this opportunity to fully admit that we are still learning what the best Achievements experiences are that cater to the needs of all players. We know that those of you who are grinders prefer volume based Achievements, and we also know that the more casual players want the ability to experience a fun sweat while firing away a handful of entries.

There are a lot of good points mentioned below, we want you all to know that we are in fact listening and learning from the feedback you are providing. We are also listening to the feedback we are getting on social media and through our customer support channels. Each are key data points that we will consider as the team continues to evolve Achievements for NFL as well as all other sports. You have our ears, we hear everyone loud and clear and will work hard to make additional improvements in the future.

I feel like the level of activity can be reflected in volume achievements. If you need x amount of passing yards for each milestone, players that play more will be able to reach the deepest milestones while players that play less won’t reach as far.

Volume Achievements are an important part of our strategy, but it is not the only component – our research shows that we need Achievements that appeal to all players from all levels of engagement and experience. For example a player who enters 5 lineups a week might be incentivised to play 2-3x a week more frequently if they have a great Achievements experience.

Our intention was to make NFL achievements more rewarding for a wider variety of players. We work hard to attract and retain new players every NFL season. One of the many tools we use to do this is an Achievements program that is within reach, while still providing enticing rewards that the most enguaged players will also find great benefit.

The “meh” part of the achievements like Big Play Beast, Donut Shop, and Bargain Hunter is that they aren’t something you can really work towards if you don’t hit the specific guideline.
bq. “Volume” achievements should be things that you have more completion for more volume, not just more chances to hit a specific rare outcome.

The three Achievements you describe are considered “RARE”, as designated by the stripes on the sides of the icon as you can see shown below. Rare Achievements are intended to be fun sweats similar to the Hat Trick or Hole in One Achievements we previously offered for NHL and PGA with great success. We see RARE Achievements as a great way to embrace a little luck within our skillful contests. Consider Rare Achievements to be icing on the cake if you happen to bink, we did not intend for them to be chased after – they are fun, casual rewards that are one and done opportunities – without milestones.

From our perspective, this has been a good learning experience. We will look to better communicate the purpose of any Rare Achievements in the future. We see in hindsight from the feedback here and elsewhere that we could have done a better job communicating what a RARE Achievement is, we will keep this learning experience in mind in the future.

Totally agree. These achievements aren’t motivating me to play more, but volume stats do a better job. There’s still time to change it though. The more people who comment on it the better chance of a change I would think.

What makes you assume we are done with NFL Achievements for the season? In the middle of the summer we added an extra set of Achievements for MLB called the HomeRun Hunt to reward players even more for their play. That was the second season we offered MLB Achievements, and this will be the second season we offer NFL Achievements! #ThinkBigPicture

should be more statistical volume based such as touchdowns, rushing yards, receiving yards, receptions…..these are the actions we enjoy watching on gameday and can be correlated to achievements at the same time.

We offer the Touchdown Machine, where you are rewarded for total touchdowns recorded in paid entries. Your point is not being ignored however, and it is something we continue to review for possible inclusion in the future.

I was looking forward to seeing what this years NFL achievements would be, and figure out my course of attack for them. Honestly, what I see has reversed my direction, and I am not even going to give them more than the rare check in to see if there are any to collect.

In some ways, this is the type of experience we were aiming for. If you are an active player, then you shouldn’t have to plan your attack – you are automatically rewarded for your play. Football season is just 17 weeks, it’s a sport that attracts new players every year to DraftKings. We want these new players to feel welcomed right away and to not have to sweat every aspect of Achievements daily. On the other hand, we do see your point and will strive to find more balance in the future.

Yup. Knowing that I need 10000 yards to meet a milestone is going to make me want to max out a few contests so I know that I’ll hit the threshold. Trying to bink a 90+ yard play or get a defense that shuts out its opponent makes me have the “eh, if it happens, it happens” attitude because I know that volume of play isn’t being awarded; luck is.

the Bargain Hunter is nearly entirely slate dependent—if there’s not a high end value play, you won’t be able to work towards it.

We have encountered a lot of feedback from customers who have asked for more fun Achievements. That’s why we added the Big Play Beast and the two other Rare achievements, they are fun props to sweat. For those of you who are looking to put in volume, we have the Ironman, the Weekly Sweat, the Gridiron Guru, the Sunday Night Sweat and the Social Butterfly.

This one bothers me. After you put up 250 TDs in paid entries, CONGRATULATIONS, your reward is… four cents!!!
Why is this even on there?

The Touchdown Machine’s 1st milestone pays out 25 crowns, while the 12th milestone rewards you with 50,000 Crowns. The 1st milestone is fairly easy to achieve for most active players, it’s just a small pit stop on the way to the 12th milestone.

Pretty disappointing overall considering NFL is the biggest product and these achievements seem both less interesting and worthwhile compared to MLB or even PGA

Football is without a doubt our biggest sport, it brings in a tremendous number of new players every year. It is in our best interest – and yours we hope – to retain these new players as we introduce them to NBA, NHL, and every other sport offered by DraftKings. We would like the first experience for these more casual players to be a positive one, as a result we tend to offer Achievement goals that are easier to obtain and priced accordingly. Keep in mind the total count of possible games are greatly reduced for NFL, it’s a 17 week season vs MLB’s half year or 8 months for NBA season.

We would like to take this opportunity to share our behind the scenes thoughts and plans. Just moments before the NFL Achievements went live, a decision was made to scrap two of the key Achievements because we could not offer them in all states where DFS can be played.

We had two options. We could have delayed releasing NFL Achievements while our team works to build a solution, or we could release NFL Achievements immediately as planned. The team chose the second option, we felt it would be the right thing to do for the good of the players.

As a side effect of our unintended change in plans, we intend to add in another Achievement that is volume based in the near future, possibly right after the NFL season starts.

In addition, we also have plans for a mid-season set of extra Achievements, similar to what we offered for MLB this summer.

At DK we really do strive to do the right thing, when the season is over and you look back we think you will love what we have planned for Football fans!

That’s the juicy bit of info I needed to hear.

Follow-up question: How many TDs does it take to reach the 12th milestone/50,000 crowns?

Also, I just want to point out that there were 1371 total TDs scored in the NFL last season, not all of which were scored by players rosterable on DK (and yes I realize you can “double-dip” on passing TDs).

Thanks for sharing and that is great to hear about more Achievements coming at the beginning of the season.

With the in-season Achievements you mentioned, will they be added to your season-long total or need to be redeemed in a specific (shortened) period of time? Thanks!

Back to the topic of MLB Showdowns and the debate about whether having a captain is a good idea or not…

Baseball is already volatile enough as it is. A home run is worth 14-20 points, which is tremendous. A home run from a designated captain in a Showdown match is bulked up to 21-30 points, which is absurd.

At this very moment, there’s a Showdown happening between the Cubs and Nationals. Adam Eaton hit a solo homer off of Jon Lester. That’s 21 points awarded to the 2.52% of the field that made the ill-advised move of making a lefty bat with a .550 OPS against lefty pitchers their captain.

There’s contrarian and there’s dumb. When you start to reward dumb, it takes the skill and the fun out of it.

I’ve searched quite a bit and can only find a thread from 3 years ago about it. If I am traveling to Las Vegas for week 1 of the NFL season, can I enter contests in my home state before I leave and still be able to edit them once I arrive in Las Vegas?

1,000,000 touchdowns? That’s sinister! You’d need 59,000 touchdowns each week to hit that number.

Can I give some insight into this? One of the eye opening achievements from previous seasons/sports, Ironman, has scaled back it’s reward to 20% of its payout through the second MLB season. It was a reward that was enticing, and easy to obtain for new players as it rewarded playing each contest day. I actually do understand that with $0.10 contests 25K crowns is alot to give away for only 48 contest days, but the only achievement that offers the same enticing achievement bonus is Touchdown Machine, which would require 29,412 touchdowns scored a week for the same 25K bonus point payout. Even the 250 touchdown achievement would require 15 touchdowns each week over 17 for a mere 25 crowns!? How is that enticing to new players?

*edit sorry for the huge quote. I guess I didn’t follow the instructions properly

That is typical for all achievements that the only chance you have to hit the top levels is to play 300-500 lineups a slate. Guys who max enter everything will hit those numbers easily.

59000 touchdowns a week among 500 paid entries is 118 touchdowns per lineup. So not only would they have to put in 500 entries per week, they would need to enter it 12 times and average 10 touchdowns per lineup (3 for QB, and 1 each for EVERY position in the lineup in EVERY lineup), just to keep up. Will some do it? Absolutely, it is an insane achievement, but it runs contrary to the stated goal of making achievement that are appealing to new players. Just to be clear, achievements like this absolutely should exist. I just think that even the lower levels of this achievement are absurd given the reward, many of the others are simply lucked into, and the Ironman one is a shadow of previous seasons (across all sports).
