To keep this topic in context, prior to 2018 there were no Achievements, this is a relatively new way for us to reward players for remaining active and engaged.

Don’t you dare turn this into “wellllll there used to be no achievements at all” like we’re supposed to be grateful or something.

If you want to reach back into the past, these little achievement bonuses don’t even put a dent in the amount the rake has increased over the past several years.

Achievements are designed to appeal to everyone from the 1st day DFS player where the initial milestones are designed to be realistically accessible, to our highest volume players who aim to have what it takes to reach the top milestones. Our intention is to reward players for their loyalty, proportionately, regardless of how much or how little they spend in entry fees. For this reason, the milestones are designed to cover the whole range of user activity from our least active players to our most active players.

Well then if you’re saying you aim to please the range of your least active to your most active players, you’re not fulfilling it on the low end.

A prize of $0.04 is a pittance for 250 TDs scored and your least active players won’t come close to that milestone.

I don’t mean to come across as sounding so bitter. It’s just that the milestone/award structure of this particular TD achievement is very sloppy. I’d expect it to be more well thought out.

As much as you hate to hear it Draftkings wouldn’t have to give anything away and they still would be the largest DFS site and people would still play. The small achievement bonuses likely have a better marketing to keep/ bring in new players than if they gave away twice as much in the form of a rake reduction since so many players don’t even understand what that is.

I personally think Draftkings does a good job with their achievements program. If you look at the value of them sure they really are not worth trying to get at all but 80% of DFS players don’t understand that. They see 500 or 1000 crowns and think “wow that is a nice reward and I am going to go out of my way to get i” when in reality 1000 crowns is worth $1.81 and will never justify spending an extra $20 to $50 to get that reward.

I would never argue against having more but understanding the business behind it I think they have done some really smart things with the rewards programs to give away less but make players feel like it is more. If 80%+ of the player base feels this way it is was a successful business strategy as the sharper players who grind DFS daily are not going to be fooled by a plan like this but also are likely to continue to play no matter what so the achievements program really was never designed with them in mind in the first place.

DraftKings is 100x better than FanDuel at communicating with their players, have to give them that. And they don’t seem compelled to keep making changes to their format for no apparent reason. I’m probably going to play a lot more NBA there this coming season, especially if FanDuel doesn’t get rid of their “drop the lowest score” gimmick.

Well then if you’re saying you aim to please the range of your least active to your most active players, you’re not fulfilling it on the low end.

Although we don’t expect everyone to maximize on the rewards, we want to ensure that every user is afforded the opportunity to participate as much or as little as they would like with our Achievements program.

Achievements are designed to offer larger rewards the more you play. The reward for earlier Milestones in each Achievement aren’t meant to be the most fulfilling, they’re supposed to encourage continued play, in pursuit of the higher Milestone rewards which are fulfilling. It’s a sweat within the sweat. If the early Achievement Milestones earned users higher rewards, they wouldn’t be motivated to pursue later Milestones. Our reward valuations are supported by the data we’ve collected & tested over the course of the planning process.

I personally think Draftkings does a good job with their achievements program.

And they don’t seem compelled to keep making changes to their format for no apparent reason.

Every change and every leap is supported by historical data and user testing & research. The DFS industry is driven by innovation and you have our commitment that any changes made are for good reason.

Hi, Per the terms and conditions of the King of the Beach Live Final, the approximate retail value of the trip package is $12,333. Trip packages for live finals are typically in the $5-6K range ($5.5K for last years KOTB), and I was wondering why it is is more than twice as high this year. Is it possible to find out exactly what the package includes to determine if playing the qualifiers is worth it for us? Thanks.

Why did you guys change the NFL Tiers format? In my opinion, QBs should be in their own tiers like in the past. Having them mixed in throughout the tiers changes the entire dynamic of the game and makes cash games nearly unplayable.

NFL tiers seems a lot more difficult this season, especially considering that you’re picking between 6, 6, 7, 7, 7, 8, 8, 8 players (6,322,176 combinations!) as opposed to smaller “elite” tiers to start and branching out near the end. There’s way too many tiers and too many options, it seems like at this point you’re better off playing classic, considering that you’re rostering 8 players and the tiers aren’t really organized by any uniting factor other than projected point range. The amount of homework you’re doing for tiers is on par with what you’d do for classic, so why not just take the next step and play in more populated contests?

They must’ve figured that tiers are “easier” to game because of the more streamlined format, so they wanted to muddle it up by making it a 1/6 or 1/7 or 1/8 chance of picking the right guy as opposed to 1/3 or 1/6 or something. Frankly I’m not going to be doing NFL tiers this season because there’s not nearly the edge in them that there once was and I really hope they don’t do this for NBA tiers or I’ll be skipping those as well. The appeal of the Tiers format is that it’s something that you can get an edge at by learning the format and how to study for it. When I have to decide whether to take Gurley, Conner, Jones, Winston, JuJu, or Bell, what’s the difference between this and picking a flex player in classic? Same thing (besides Winston) and this is supposed to be one of the “icebreaker” tiers.

  • hautalak

At a first look it seems as previous tiers iterations were better but I’m still willing to give this a try. What I see happening is people build the “cashy” lineups and take QBs as often as they can with them having the most “guaranteed” volume. While not a bad idea, we’ve seen how RBs, WRs, and even sometimes TEs outscore QBs so if you take “chances” here it could pay off even more. I’m definitely interested in ownership percentages and how this moves forward.

For clarity, can you elaborate on last year’s offering that you’re referencing? If your inquiry is specific to contests offered for Tiers, we have plenty of offerings in our lobby such as the NFL Tiers $250K Front Four [$50K to 1st, 20 Entry Max], which can be found here: https://www.draftkings.com/draft/contest/75520162

If not, can you specify exactly what you mean by “NFL Pickem Contest”?

Will there be a full season of PGA achievements? The season kicks back off in a couple of weeks

We do have plans for a 2020 PGA Achievements program but it will not begin this fall.

We’ve never defaulted to a single way to run Tiers, as it is one of our most dynamic game variants. We’re constantly testing & retesting new Tier structures (you may remember our themed Tiers from last season) & making adjustments based on the resulting data. Tiers are variable and may look different week over week. However, that is what users find exciting about the game variant and that is what makes it unique among the different game variants we offer.

Is it possible to find out exactly what the package includes to determine if playing the qualifiers is worth it for us? Thanks.

This year, DraftKings set a fresh vision for our NFL live final events.

The Fantasy Football World Championship (FFWC) is the marquee DFS competition each year in our world – we will continue to focus on that event being the authoritative Championship moment on the calendar that everyone strives for as a pinnacle of achievement in DFS. This year is our 5th anniversary, so we decided to add a promotion on top of the FFWC that sweetens the pot for our players – we are covering 100% of the event costs out of pocket.

We also wanted to re-invent the King of the Beach (KOTB) for 2019, more clearly establishing it as an experience-first event. We doubled the event budget from last year, with the explicit goal of executing a can’t miss, jaw-dropping experience that our players will never forget. The DFS competition at KOTB is a significant component of the experience, but not the reason for it to exist. Our vision is that KOTB is a perfect complement to FFWC and players compete for a KOTB seat because the experience is second to none.

We understand that it’s year one of a new vision, and you have to see it first to believe. Therefore, for our King of the Beach this year, we’ve now decided to still throw the same spectacular event we’ve been planning, but at a package cost in line with last year. We will prove to you this year that it’s worth it. If our players love it as much as we think, we will price it accordingly next year – and if not, we will change course. To make this adjustment, we will simply be adding an additional $500,000 directly to the prize pool of the KOTB competition, and this change will be updated in our promotional page & Terms and conditions shortly.

We apologize for not making this vision more evident upfront. We look forward to amazing our KOTB participants this year, so that in 2020, the experience is better understood upfront from our track record of results before pricing out the package.

To start with, when clicking ‘View All’ for the daily rewards/tier info – nothing happens. You get brought back to the main app screen. Nothing happens when clicking below where it shows your current status/tier.
I personally thought it was cleaner/easier to use having 2 separate clickable options – 1 to bring you to your daily rewards/tier info and 1 to bring you to your achievements.
