Excited to see a qually up in the lobby, not details out quite yet. Wonder where it will end up being.

This seems to imply that you are, in fact, not going to run many of the $5 and $20 Q’s that the announcement page suggests. Bummer.

I shall cya there. In the qualifier obviously, but hopefully also SD.

That would be nice. I hope if I bitch enough they’ll keep around 1/2 the Q’s under $1k. I am a donk with regards to probability, can anyone figure out ballpark odds of winning a Q into the $1000 and then winning that $1k Q versus just winning this $20?

WRT the “rake” of the event, I can vouch for DraftKings that they put on a top flight event. Last year’s event was $8,000+$5,500 if I remember correctly, and considering the accommodations, all the VIP events, clubs, Lamborghini driving and dinners they paid for, not to mention free food and free booze at your beck and call the entire time down there, they spent well over $5,500 on my friends and I; well over.

Don’t forget about the free chair massages during the final.
But yes it was an incredible experience which I never could’ve just bought outright. I wonder if DK will scale back the experience at all due to some of the worries surrounding DFS.

What’s with so many $1k qualifiers. It seems like every night they offer a 1k qualifier with some $20. There has only been one at $3. At this rate over half the seats will come from 1Ks and probably a few players holding multiple seats from these large qualifiers.

  • Ryanoss

    • 2015 DraftKings FHWC Finalist

I would be surprised if 30/40 seats are not from 1k Qs. I would also be surprised if a few players don’t hold multiple seats from the large Qs. The $3 Q did not come close to filling. It was 6754/8235. DK fills the small Qs to the 1k Q on a regular basis also.
Since DK is in the business of making money it makes sense for them to run the contests that fill consistently.

Are you shocked by this? I’m not. They are clearly catering to the big BR guys.

    Par for the course.

  • Dandadankie

How about a 200$ big qualifier with multiple seats…..hint hint

That is simply not a fact. We run plenty of satellites to the $1k Q’s for low stakes. The odds of turning $3 into $1000 into a package are basically exactly the same as turning $3 into a seat directly. Last year and in this years NFL qualifiers many $1k/$5k qualifiers were won by low stakes players that had won tickets into the high stakes qualifiers.

If the $3 qualifiers filled we would run them. However, the interest is simply not there at this point in the season.

I think the interest is there. Run them over NBA break if you are that concerned.

    Or run a $10 or $20 Quali.

Think people would much prefer trying to go through a $10-$50 Q than trying to sat into a 1k to qualify.

Jon, can you address a broader question for me——why are the NHL prize pools not constantly growing? It feels like no effort is made to promote the sport and increase the size of the leagues, which is a shame.

It will be interesting to see if the $20 Q tomorrow fills. Saying there is interest and actually seeing it are different things. Maybe the $3 Q was not up long enough to fill? $20 Q tomorrow marketed a bit longer. If it fills can we have another try at filling a $3 Q? Maybe NBA all star break?

How do you know… you have run one and it was on the first day. You fill a $3 dollar tournament every night of 17k.

@FE Little off topic but you seem to be following this thread.

Any Chance DK would be willing to try running something like a $5 1000 person max 3 entry GPP on the larger slate nights?

Well they advertise $5 Q’s on the landing page for the tournament, so I would hope they follow through on that. But as someone mentioned above, tonight is a good measuring stick. If the $20 doesn’t fill then we’re screwed.

  • Ryanoss

    • 2015 DraftKings FHWC Finalist

Well today’s $20 Q looks to fill with some ease.
It also looks like DK has Qs to a $20 Q running today as well which would seem to indicate some level of commitment to a future $20 Q.

This is true. I can live with $20 Q’s. But if they advertise $5 they should also run at least one of those.

There is nothing taken out of the live final, the $5,500 trip value is $1,000 cash for airfare/transportation + $4.5k for everything else that makes up the trip. As others have pointed out we certainly do our best to make sure that everyone gets their moneys worth out of our live finals and this event will be no different. It’s truly a 4 days long non stop fantasy party during arguably the best sports weekend of the year.

Why does this need to be a 5 day trip? Wouldnt that money be better off in the prize pool? Dont you understand that most people playing DFS have real jobs that might make it difficult to take that many days off work?

Its pretty obvious these “championships” are set up for the pros that play DFS full time.

Because March Madness Starts on Thursday, Brad. They are trying to include the whole 1st weekend for the trip.

  • maxeernst

@fatalerror The $20 Q filled 2 hours before lock. Keep these coming. Much preferred over the 1k qualifiers.

You wouldnt rather have more money in the prize pool? March madness or not, people with real jobs cant randomly take 5 days off of work.
