    ADMISSION FULL

    Hi,

I proposed this in the 1/13 thread and it seems like many of you would wish to partake in it.

For those of you who didn’t see it, what I propose is a H2H tournament on DraftKings, each round being a best of 7 series. Think Stanley Cup Playoffs meets March Madness. DraftKings would not formally organize this, so it would have to be run through this thread. I’m not sure what would determine the seeding? I would be inclined to suggest Rotogrinders rankings but it would be unfair to unranked cash game players, who would likely take a cotton to this idea.

This would be mostly for bragging rights but how much is put on each game is up to you and your competitor.

If there is enough interest, I would take it upon myself to create a bracket, in one of my graphic design programs or appropriate some March Madness bracket (or whatever).

I’d like to get a head count so please respond here even if you already expressed interest last night.

Admission is CLOSED. My apologies to those who could not join in time. If a position opens up, I will make it known.

Nevermind, we will be fine doing Best of 7. I had a brain fart.

I’d be fine with it. How and who would collect the money. Would we use a service like LeagueSafe? Or do you have a better idea?

Does anybody know the best way to go about collecting a small buy-in like this? Is there a good service to use? Would anybody have an aversion to a $5 buy-in with the payout mberkowi proposes?

Unfortunately, we hit 32 people and registration closed. There’s a decent chance someone will back out so I’ll keep you posted.

Is there a reason we would do a 7 game series? It just seems really long and cumbersome. I would prefer best of 3 to be honest.

  • maxeernst

I also have a recommendation—-rather than have everyone create separate h2h games, why not just have the 32 of us play a private tournament every night with our “h2h” teams and then settle the bracket based on the scores.

IE instead of making a bunch of h2h contests independently just have all the scores in one place.

So basically we would all be playing in one tourney, but in order to win we just have to beat whoever we have on the bracket? I like that idea, then we could see everyone’s scores as well.

Damn that is a good idea.

Do you want to compromise and do Best of 5? I feel Best of 3 would be too short to get past variance.

  • maxeernst

    It’s also good for transparency.

But it has the detriment of eliminating side wagers on the h2hs.

But I kinda would rather have everyone pay into a general pool and make it a h2h bracket tourney that pays like the final 4?

  • maxeernst

Obviously I’m just one person. Just sharing ideas.

5 would be better than 7 IMO.

Running the tourney gets tricky when some people advance and others don’t I guess. Though you can just sit it out if you’ve already advanced.

How would we handle the money aspect of it though? A winner may not finish in the money despite beating his foe.

Would we just do a $1 50/50 or free contest then jack up the buy-ins and payouts for the entire tourney?

Didn’t realize this was 32 teams. No chance this goes smoothly. Baseball tourney on this board took about 2.5 months and people just stopped communicating. I’m out. Sorry.

EDIT – Good luck with it though, I do hope it does run smoothly!

I’ll play if a spot opens up. Thanks.

    These are good ideas.

I’m really down for whatever is easiest for the organizer, and your ideas seem to fit the bill.

Best of 5 works for me. Running the brackets through a big tournament each night makes sense too. The latter also has the benefit of not requiring two people to work out their H2H matchups, and what if one complains that the other kept messing up and not being available? This way, everyone is doing the same thing.

EDIT: obviously, the pot is a big concern. payment has to be up front for all entrants before the thing begins through a trusted source.

I say we use the League Safe site, seems like the best option. What are we looking at for a start date, Monday?

  • scsa1998

Will we do all slates, or slates with an X amount of games or more games.

Well, we would need to have the seeding contest first. I’m trying to figure out the best way of approaching buy-in portion, which would not be too exhaustive.
