So I don’t know if this has been discussed already, but a quick forum search didn’t reveal anything. But it seems like pretty big news— draftkings is no longer offering commissions for referring friends. Instead they seem to be offering some paltry tickets (currently it’s a single $33 ticket for a referral, with nothing else). This is pretty lame.

From their website, in the terms & conditions in the refer-a-friend section:”“This Commission Fees & Payments shall only apply to those Invited Friends who properly registered on the Website prior to July 12, 2016.”

As this isn’t completely clear, I e-mailed, and asked “As it is after July 12, does that mean you are no longer offering commissions for friend referrals?” They replied: “Yes, that is correct. After 7/12, users no longer receive commission from a referrals play however, we have bolstered our RAF program so that the immediate rewards or contest tickets and prizes remain favorable.” [the latter part of this sentence, as I understand it, refers to the bs tickets they are offering now]

So, referrals are dead, and I guess any new referrals do nothing other than get you a ticket and possibly perpetuate your active status on old referrals.

Additionally, since all referrals were recently changed to expire after 2 years, no one will be receiving any referral income at all after July 12, 2018. This is a pretty drastic move. Pretty awful and annoying.

What do you all think? I’m kinda pissed. I’ve never referred anyone, but wanted to start, only to find I’m 12 days too late. I’m sure as hell not going to refer anyone now. Screw those guys.

DK continues to do more and more things that disappoint me. Unfortunately there’s nothing we can do about it. So disappointed with them and the direction they are taking.

  • DCoop328

They are a business. They have to make money.

Higher Rake for All or More Referral Money for Few. Easy Decision.

  • cmbarbee226

They may be seeing a bubble in DFS as far as new player growth. I know I am terribly disappointed as during the football season is could get upwards of $150 a month from old referrals. Figure whomever has the referrals for the whales may get 20x that. A lot of money to be giving back.

    Good Afternoon,

Yes, we still run an RAF program however, new referrals will no longer yield commission. We’ve surveyed many of our customers and learned that the immediate bonuses, such as free contest tickets, are how people prefer to be rewarded. Discontinuing the commission portion of the program gives us the opportunity to make our referral offers even better for you and your friends.

We are constantly evolving our program, please be on the lookout for more exciting offerings like monthly challenges exclusively for program participants

such bullshit from them. So disappointed with DK and there’s nothing you can do except not play.

So they’re trying to tell us that people/we prefer a one-time $33 dollar ticket to a potential of hundreds or thousands of dollars every month. The gall! At least be honest. Tell us they need to make profit-based decisions due to increased legal costs, decreasing growth, etc. Don’t feed us shit and tell us it’s sugar. That’s just so disrespectful and insulting to our intelligence. That is a tough pill to swallow.

  • noddy

Yep pretty pissed with that response. They do NOT care about us anyway, They just don’t. And please don’t tell me its a business and its all about making money. There are plenty of businesses that do things the right way and care about their customers that make lots of money.

Yes, and the decision is both higher rake and no referral money.

  • RangerC

The issue was that refer-a-friends were abused by high-stakes players to get rakeback.

Also, while DK is being dishonest overall about the RAF program (what a shock), I think that the average casual is fine with tickets. The % program was rife with exploits and is unnecessary at this point.

I would think the majority would rather have a ticket. How many of your friends really stick along on DK long enough to make over 33$ in commission. Mine have even with my help been losing players and given up within a few months.

  • qutgnt25

DK has been extremely generous over the years with the refer a friend tickets. I think the wording here is the issue. Many people did make hundreds or thousands off referrals a month. Now that is gone and we are told that instead up front tickets would be better. That hasn’t been the case with the offers. Yes I get they are nice enough to offer anything opposed to fanduel. But to sugar coat a turd is the main problem. I’d love to know what customer acquisition cost was last year with the commercial spend. I bet way more than 66 dollars in free tickets they give out now . I doubt there will be much advertising this fall to gather new customers so cutting off the refer a friend base might wither the incoming new players even more. I don’t disagree even as a big referrer that for the sake of the business model no new refer a friend commission should be earned. Problem is now there is way way less an incentive to refer . And with rake increasing and no new blood pools might be a wasteland come November.

Not sure why anyone is suprised by anything DK does?
They are the ones that ruined this industry and many of us have been screaming they were for years but you all called us trolls because the Pros who are the ones raping you said it was Ok.
ALl that has happened was plain to see and we laid it out years ago and watched it come to pass before our eyes but. You still called us trolls.
Anyone who still plays there deserves anything they get. Which is pretty much screwed by a site who set up the pros and funded them from the day they launched.
What makes anyone think they care for the little guy one bit?

Pretty much this^ Or at least the part that we saw a lot of this coming and were belittled by the guys that had everything paid for on that site

What do you think the average initial deposit is? I learned of DFS already being a fantasy junkie, as a professional in my 30s, and only put in $10.

Also, a new player is dead money so isn’t this just DK sustaining the Milly. The Milly is better advertising than affiliates, I assume and existing players probably care more about the Milly than someone registering and depositing $10.
