So apparently DraftKings is offering One Billion, yes thats right, One Billion dollars if you draft the perfect lineup in week one. Now that is not the highest score out of all the lineups entered. It means out of all the possible combinations that you had the highest combo possible. Its free and Im stoked to see if its offered throughout the whole season. Can you imagine not getting a million but a Billion this season????!!!!!!

True. That said, the millionaire maker is much better this year than it used to be. I remember when 45% went to 1st place alone. Now the top 3,000+ don’t even combine for 45% of the prize pool. You can actually expect to profit if you do well now.

Yeah. This first one is absolutely more playable that the ones they offered last year.

I don’t have data, but I think the very first ones might have been better?

You do realize this contest is free to enter, right?

I do. I just don’t like the false excitement that it creates. It’s extremely gimmicky… much like the FanDuel commercial that I was in where they interviewed me for like 2 hours then decided to only use the part where I said how much I won and how much I’d deposited (which the guy made me say over and over again because I didn’t sound excited enough… had I known that was all they’d use I would never have done that in the first place).

Jokes on them. I’m going to hit the billion dollar lineup and then short a billion dollars worth of Swiss Re stock and win twice!

With you… but short in premarket and cover in the opening 30 minutes selloff.

Lets not forget one thing : Its all about marketing !

This is GREAT marketing, in my opinion. It’s a free contest, it creates excitement about DFS and the upcoming NFL season, and although it might be somewhat gimmicky, it’s not even close to prior marketing campaigns.

Create a perfect lineup, win a billion dollars. That’s pretty cut and dry to me.

Just a bummer than the single entry limit will be abused by colluders…. 😜

  • walkoff9

We have never seen it before and that’s when people can enter hundreds of lineups…this is single entry.

But its a billion dollars for free….it should be impossible.

So Draftkings lost over 100 million in 2016 yet want us to believe they can give away $1Billion. What a desperate promo…lol

I like that the marketing will prob bring back or in some users, but even if they were only paying 1 million or whatever for the insurance, that’s gonna be covered by us, in rake from other tourneys.

I’ve been a big fan of the DK main slate tournaments up to this point, but I think this one is pretty ridiculous. It bothers me because it’s just about impossible and they know that, but I guess ignorant customers make the best targets. That said, hopefully somebody does actually beat the odds of 99.99999999999% that it won’t happen.

Given the contest is free and DK probably bought an insurance policy to cover the winnings, this is a super cost effective promotion for them assuming the premium they paid on the policy isn’t crazy high.

Ummm… I’d rethink that comment if I were you. Have you heard of insurance? That’s how they are doing it. You didn’t seriously think they would run a free contest with any chance of having to pay out $1bb themselves did you? Come on man…

That’s what I’m saying. Of course not. When I got the email I just trashed it because it was ridiculous. They put up a contest that isn’t even close to realistic.

It aint happening….. People can only do one lineup.

  • dtrain187

So no one’s going to win and DK has to spend at least 1 million on insurance. So the only winner here is the insurance companies? Sounds about right…

I think it’s fantastic. Hopefully it can bring some new people in to play not only NFL DFS yet other sports as well. Can’t see how anyone can complain about a free chance, albeit an infinitesimal one, at a billion dollars.

the billion dollar thing is cool but I’m more excited about the 100K single entry free tourney that is attached with it. should get some new $$ in a lot of new players accounts even if it is just a tiny amount. Anything to help build the player pool

Insurance is not my field, but this is such an unlikely event that I think $1 million premium maybe too high?

For the entire season maybe, but one time and single entry? A steal for the insurance companies.

All right… you guys have swayed me. It’s not bad. I probably shouldn’t be complaining.

I guess since I’m a DFS pro who gets to analyze sports all the time I have to manufacture things to complain about.

  • TeamTwerk

And as someone in the legal/insurance industry, I’ll just add that based on Swiss Re’s involvement, you can tell that it’s not only insured, but there is insurance on the insurance (a.k.a. re-insurance).

Legal Sports Reports says the odds are about one in two trillion.

Not a bad risk if you’re the insurance company.

1 in 2 trillion seems way too long. Is that if you pick completely random players? It seems like an elite pro would be a favorite to hit it with substantially fewer entries. Maybe 50 million?

  • stellagirl

Great marketing gimmick – smart! Basically, they determined that for them, the cost of paying the insurers is far outweighed by the industry buzz that is being generated, and marketing they can wrap around this. It’s all about ROI.

It’s basically a very creative commercial.

That said, the odds are INSANE. I imagine there will be a non-starter who posts a top score at their position, either from and early in-game injury, or some other weird circumstance. Let’s say it’s a kicker. That will sink 99% of the lineups, assuming that player is 1% owned.

Then, some 1st string TE on a poor team with a bad matchup will catch 3 TD’s in the red zone and edge out the chalk. There goes another 97% of the 1% that were left, assuming 3% ownership on that TE..

Out of 5,000,000 lineups, we’re already down to 1,500. K and TE positions are out of the way. Now, get the other 7 positions correct, and there you have it!

    Yes, as usual.

Typically the only winners are insurance companies and lawyers.
