So DK tweeted out millionaire maker ownership here http://playbook.draftkings.com/nfl/millionaire-maker-percent-owned-week-3/ which as of 230pm still includes ownership data for games that have not yet started. IMO this is a big leak and should never happen. It also seems like something that your average analyst should probably not have access too, and able to tell his buddies who is owned and who the best players have. Hey did you know that CSURAM has Randall Cobb going late? Given that they can access the macro results it seems probable they can access specific users during and/or before contests start.

They definitely should no be sharing it publicly, if they’re going to do it just list the full rosters in the contest and call it a day.

Great reply from DK – thanks for the bullet proof reassurance of your internal controls and addressing the situation with a blanket statement basically copied from FD…

    Unreal.

Their commercials have always clearly showed what they truly think of their customer base.

Reddit is all over this as well “Ethan Haskells( Written content manager at DK Playbook)big win wasn’t his first. He won $100k recently and took down four, yes FOUR grand slams this SUMMER. Just this summer.”

What the hell. That’s insane. Do you have a link to this?

If that’s true, these sites are going to fucking burn when these congressional hearings come around.

I’m filing this under “Things I typed without thinking first”

Not at all. Maybe going after the hat was nitpicking but ….This year I had the opportunity to go to a live event run by draftkings and they had several employees there. I witnessed several employees borderline blacked out drunk at the event.

I’ve been to many professionally run pokerstars events in which employees were held to the highest professional standard in the industry., not allowed to drink with players, and created a higher standard for their paying customers. All of their employees either wore suits or work place attire with a professional appearance.

While I had a great time at a draftkings live event; this event should be about the players receiving the highest customer service treatment, not about the employees partying with their customers.

I have friends who work in the finance industry. They aren’t allowed to trade stocks their firm covers in addition to a group of other stocks…

How is this not a similar situation? People who work for certain companies shouldnt be allowed to play on other sites as well. It’s essentially insider trading (Whether you have access to the data or you don’t have access to the data, you still have an advantage the average player does not).

I work in Mortgage and cannot purchase homes my firm has an interest in. Nor can my family.
It even extends into day trading. There are huge restrictions on my actions put in place by numerous regulations/oversight to prevent me from using my inside information to perform transactions that the general public do not have privileged information

…but it is a gambling website so you know…if you aint cheating you aint trying.

The reason the sites don’t want to do this is because they would have a hard time keeping good employees or bringing on new employees that are passionate about the industry.

Tough shit…It shouldn’t be an iron clad prerequisite that the employees at these companies be avid DFS’ers. Especially now, when the difference between a staffer making $50-70K and Pros playing $100K a day is a ripe environment for collusion.

  • walterg55

Those looking forward to DFS IPO’s in the future. These issues will come up in the process and not in a good way

  • Cobra_Kai

Why even bother with a response when it tells us absolutely nothing. Guess they aren’t taking this as serious as I thought. This is alarming.

My opinions: – DK/FD employees with data access like this shouldn’t be allowed to play DFS anywhere at anytime. – DK/FD needs checks and balances in place to ensure this data isn’t published or viewable prior to lock. – DK/FD need to get out of the ‘analysis’ business and stick to offering contests.

  • Gsulaw16

This is true, but in fairness billion dollar companies should be able to compensate this kind of talent enough that they would be willing to forego dfs for the salaries.

^ Absolutely nailed it. Thank you.

Unfortunately, DK & FD have failed this test in the past and I have no faith that tomorrow’s DK announcement will be anything more than the bare minimum response. They will say that they are putting in measures to prevent this data from being shared (which already should have been done BTW), they will say that there is no evidence to suggest any “intentional” data share occurred (without providing any proof that could be tracked and validated) and they will create a few $10K free rolls as an “Our Bad Guys” penance for being asleep at the wheel….once again.

It isn’t, shouldn’t and won’t be enough. The ‘dye is cast’ as they say.

Sorry…but it is fitting I bump my own post from page 8 and compare it to DK’s statement. The only thing we are missing is the freerolls.

    http://playbook.draftkings.com/uncategorized/draftkings-statement-10515/

Are they serious? Is this the big announcement we waited 5 days for? How can a company be so out of touch with their user base?

EDIT: And why in Sam Hell would DK be speaking for FD in THEIR statement? Does that not make them look even worse? It’s like Sears making a statement about something that happened at J.C. Penney.

  • mrchuffy

I work In the finance industry if I released Q3 earnings to anyone before they were final i wouldn’t have a job anymore….whether it was an accident or not.

  • milktruck

This is pretty simple and basic stuff: You work in DFS, you can’t play DFS. The only motivation for someone on here to argue differently is because their $$$ is at risk. That’s why everyone is clamming up. All these guys from the poker sites and sportsbooks are having their spot get blown up and are furiously trying to hold to the last remaining moments of it as long as they can.

They’re gonna do the same thing they did with the poker sites: take the money and run. If you have any significant amount of $$$ on these sites, you’re being negligent by leaving it on there, IMO.

  • stoptheinsanity

LMAO @ DKs response that took them a week to write. I’m sure the rough draft of it just said “SUCK IT!!!” So I guess it is a step up from that. Yes there is nothing the players can do about it, but they have to realize they are just begging the government to come shut them down. Then we all lose. They are treating this like a quick cash grab instead of trying to turn it into a long term business. Oh well. It’s been fun.

    Wow… just wow…

I am not going to make any speculation born from my personal feelings, but having lost a bunch of money during Black Friday, I will only say this:

    • Get your money out now. Leave as much on the sites as you want to play with for the day, and redeposit your play amount daily.

Regardless of whether, or not there was any wrong doing, this is the kind of stuff that governmental control agencies have been frothing at the mouth to jump on. Now that it is out, it is altogether within the realm of possibility that assets begin to be frozen until a full investigation is completed.

I am not normally one to yell “FIRE!” without seeing smoke, but I have seen this smoke before, and got burned when I didn’t take heed of the warning.

Nothing is more important to DraftKings and FanDuel than the integrity of the games we offer to our customers. Both companies have strong policies in place to ensure that employees do not misuse any information at their disposal and strictly limit access to company data to only those employees who require it to do their jobs. Employees with access to this data are rigorously monitored by internal fraud control teams, and we have no evidence that anyone has misused it.

However, we continue to review our internal controls to ensure they are as strong as they can be. We also plan to work with the entire fantasy sports industry on this specific issue so that fans everywhere can continue to enjoy and trust the games they love.

I mean I’m a little disturbed by this issue, but this reaction is a tad bit alarmist. There are no illegalities that have taken place, as much as we don’t like what we’ve discovered.

Lol them saying their control systems are working or will work: is like having a drug addict bring their own piss into probation to have it tested, and taking their word on it that it is their piss.

There should be some type of outside regulatory service monitoring this stuff.

I thought Cal said we would be very happy with their response blah blah blah…… Obviously an attorney told them to create this generic response together with FD. Anyway, we the just wait til this blows over approach is the one being taken.

I just reached back out to Matt Kalish. I have no info now, but these dual statements obviously suggest that FD and DK are now addressing this together, which is a good thing. My best guess is that more is coming but the timeline will be longer so that the sites can dive into the issue together.

  • milktruck

There are so many similarities between this and what happened with Full Tilt I don’t even know where to begin.

There have been no illegalities because there is no regulation is my thought (not sure this is true). Also if he had requested the info prior to lock, used it and won on another site. Would that be considered illegal?( insert im not blaming him so relax people that know him comment).I’m guessing probably not but he probably would be terminated. Lotso of probablies in there….. I’m just asking questions…

  • ltperry89

True enough – and I understand the need for commercials to appeal to a larger demo and I have problem with trying to grow DFS. Without that, all there is are players like us and the Sharks which make it no fun AND not profitable. All the same, feels like a big middle finger.

Edit: Whoops – this was supposed to be @Unico10

Cal – With respect, isn’t this EXACTLY what they did with the scripting debacle? I’m sorry dude, but having the 2 largest industry leaders combining forces to manifest a statement to cover their ass is certainly NOT a “good thing”. I repeat, not a good thing at all.

Yes that why in next statement I said unless this is a prestatement….. Thanks for jumping back in

  • vandys

You don’t believe that knowing ownership percentages at one site would be beneficial to building a GPP lineup at another site? That’s wild. Furthermore, the ownership percentages were relatively similar between the sites, meaning he basically had access to them for FD.
