    • 2020 DraftKings FHWC Champion

So DK tweeted out millionaire maker ownership here http://playbook.draftkings.com/nfl/millionaire-maker-percent-owned-week-3/ which as of 230pm still includes ownership data for games that have not yet started. IMO this is a big leak and should never happen. It also seems like something that your average analyst should probably not have access too, and able to tell his buddies who is owned and who the best players have. Hey did you know that CSURAM has Randall Cobb going late? Given that they can access the macro results it seems probable they can access specific users during and/or before contests start.

They definitely should no be sharing it publicly, if they’re going to do it just list the full rosters in the contest and call it a day.

This has turned into a complete and utter shitshow. Everyone in the DFS industry should be on their toes for ANYTHING that resembles impropriety. It seems like FD and DK are doing their best to beg for the government to step in and provide some good old fashioned DC level regulation…

And when it comes to DC regulation in gambling, it will most likely be a ban.

One thing I am sure of though, is that the people here, and writers for other publications, that are inferring that Ethan had ownership information before lock are either uneducated on the situation, or jumping to a conclusion that is 100% untrue, and I hope he takes action against you for tarnishing his good name.

Is it me or are the only guys defending this guy Ethan in this thread are RG staff and/or High volume big time players? I also have seen the “why would they risk all that rake money to cheat” defenses paraded out as well, I would just like to point out I was involved heavily in professional poker before, during, and after black friday and witnessed the Absolute Poker superuser scandal, Ultimatebet Superuser scandals, PartyPoker multiaccounting scandals, Lock Poker payout scandals etc firsthand – some of these were situations where multimillion dollar companies were compromised by programmers or employees to facilitate high level cheating againt their own player base – and in these cases almost all of the “top name” players initially took to the forums to defend cheaters like Zeejustin and companies like Ultimate Bet and Absolute – in some cases these same players defending the cheaters where found out to be cheaters as well.

Now obviously I am not pointing fingers at anyone here – I apparently don’t have as much information as the above poster – who unequivocally stated there is %100 chance nothing shady happened – My problem is that the RG staff guys and all these high volume guys aren’t exactly unbiased; they would seem to have a decided interest to keep things going exactly like they are – if there was in fact something questionable happening – which as the detailed letter from FK/FD clearly states there isn’t….so obviously nothing to worry about in the least here, carry on people week 5 isn’t going to win itself.

What the hell. That’s insane. Do you have a link to this?

If that’s true, these sites are going to fucking burn when these congressional hearings come around.

No need to link to another site, you can see it on his profile:

    https://rotogrinders.com/profiles/ethan

So from 7/11 – 8/18, a span of 39 days, there were 4 wins in a major tournament ($25 entry and anywhere from 2k-13k entrants). Since the all-star break fell in there, there were a total of 35 playable days. Not sure how many entries he plays typically, but the odds of winning 4 grand slams in that span is huge (anywhere from tens of thousand to 1 to millions to 1 depending on number of entries and how much greater you believe his skill is than the average player in those tournaments)

And that doesn’t take into account the $350k football win or any of the other major baseball cashes that occurred during that window (there are several other dates with top 0.1% to 1% cashes in major baseball tournaments during July/August). It doesn’t take into consideration the vast majority of the major cashes have occurred since he became an employee of DK

Regardless of whether or not Ethan was using inside information, he clearly had access to it and he has experienced results that are incredibly improbable. And you have another guy from FD who is experiencing the same results on DK.

And with the need for more transparency, twitter accounts are turned private and accounts are removed from rotogrinders profiles so new results will no longer be tracked. Awesome.

Even if there is nothing wrong going on, the combination of access to insider data and very improbable results is going to breed distrust. It all looks incredibly shady, and yet people keep throwing phrases like ‘tin foil hats’.

Regulation is badly needed. The government is bound to get a bunch wrong but it would be far better then we have now where there is zero impartial oversight.

I don’t think they worked together at all on scripting responses.

If both sites, instead of just one site, end up with tighter controls on employees playing on other sites I think almost everyone posting here would consider that a good thing. Hopefully the statements come out soon so that the discussion can advance past this limbo.

I think the easiest way to be completely transparent is to post the current ownership percentages next to the players in real time, that way everyone has access to the statistic and you would eliminate this whole problem

My bank knows my account number…..whats to say an employee wont steal money from me?

This example has zero to do with the current situation. Obviously if a bank employee removed money from your account YOU WOULD KNOW ABOUT IT. What people are up in arms about is what employees are doing that WE DONT KNOW ABOUT.

Hmm, do these statements look familiar? A joint blah blah statement that says absolutely nothing. Exactly as I said would happen. What took til Monday to write this gem up? I’d like to see the mods defend this now. Disgusting.

Pretty sure the vast majority of lawyers have the weekend off!

  • proshares

I agreed with some of Dan’s points but not with the notion of “If you don’t trust it, don’t play”. Shouldn’t there be more an effort to make the player feel more comfortable and make the sites more responsible for these huge issues? That’s a really narrow minded thing to say IMO.

What’s funny is everyone’s complaining, but is that going to stop you from playing? You can hem and haw (some of which I think people are just crying for the sake of being a troll)…But ultimately, you are all going to be playing this coming weekend

I can promise you I will not be playing… its like playing playing poker and two competitors know what your holding before the turn comes out. If you continue to play your a sucker. I’ll go back to games of fair play.

I really enjoyed the part where Dan told us that anybody that thinks knowing that information can help you finish high in tourneys doesn’t understand DFS. I love DBs podcasts. Been listening for years. But this particular one I just found insulting.

    Vote with your dollars.

Only way to enact change barring any kind of player advocate.

And while RG provides a forum to discuss player advocacy, unfortunately they are not player advocates.

  • IronMonkey415

I’m done crying for the day, but for some reason I’m back to creating lineup for Mon/Thurs. game.
    I really cannot leave DFS.

  • hpharri1994

It’s pretty disappointing hearing the voices of this industry act like this isn’t a big deal. I’m not one that assumes there is anything nefarious going on behind the scenes, but just the fact that it so easily could is a HUGE problem. The future of DFS is more in doubt because of what has happened over the last week and that sucks for everyone.

  • SkeletonCrew13

Well the public clearly isnt informed as much as the people on this site:

For me I was going to check overlay tonight and see how to bet ;)
All the major guaranteed contests are at least half fulll already. Pretty safe to assume the general population either A) doesnt know or B) doesnt care.

That’s what I originally thought and posted above. This wouldn’t be a good idea for dudes that don’t run scripts and can edit hundreds of Lus seconds before lock. Max’s projections/scripts probally take into account his estimated %s. They would be precise %s if it was public.

+1. Kinda makes a lot of the talk about “growing DFS” and being spokesman for DFS ‘ears ring kinda hollow. The silence or Pollyanna answers is damning

Yeah that part is pretty insulting and clearly not much logic was used there, he’s just trying to defend the sites it looks like here.

  • detroittigers44

I appreciate that Dan recognized there was a problem and that there is room for improvement… I have to agree with what proshares said however, if you don’t like it, don’t play? That can’t really be how people feel. We put up our hard earned money for the entertainment value and fun of DFS, but at the same time, we should ALL be able to feel like things are on the up and up, the sites are transparent, and information like this is not being disclosed to people that are in the same player fields we are in. If there are issues that arise like this one, DK/FD and whoever else need better responses and need to put an actual plan in place to give us confidence it won’t happen again.

I love Rotogrinders, I love Dan’s podcasts, I love DFS, but lets work on the transparency of some of these issues… Fanduel, give us the ability to export to .csv for checks and balances, how hard is it? DK, please actually address this issue and tell us what has been done to prevent it from ever happening again.

Not playing for me is not an option, I love DFS too much and would miss it… Just give us the confidence that we are all on a level playing field.

  • bluestooges

Isn’t this a case of “it should be wrong” but its not actually against the rules? This is assuming that someone had access looked at the ownership for one company figured they might be similar on the other sight and used it to their advantage. I am not making judgement either way but if I was assume this is what actually happened, I think it falls in the category of “ man I can’t believe that is not against the rules”. Its like when you see a cop talking on his cell phone while he is driving or someone gets money back on their taxes when they were on welfare or someone watches US netflix in Canada….scratch the last one.

I dont want to attack anyone individually, but you do realize that the reason none of the “voices of the industry” are speaking out against this is because most of them are in a profitable relationship with FD/DK right? I mean, the money RG takes in from referrals alone is probably mind boggling. Most Big players have sponsorship’s with or want sponsorship’s from these companies. It’s just not good business for them to say anything, although I know STLCards did at some point in this thread.

Awful look for the industry..just a matter of time before this get much more coverage than an RG forum. Someone capable and with a large audience will put together a hit piece detailing the last few scandals in the DFS world. People will come to the conclusion that its a dirty industry with lack of control/regulation. Some politician looking to make a name for himself will run it up the flagpole and its gonna get ugly..

Doesn’t matter if you think Ethan cheated the system or DK was just inept in their handling of information. Either way, the industry looks bad and very few outsiders will Ethan the benefit of doubt.

This x 100. The fact the guy is winning huge on FD so regularly either makes him the Nostradamus of DFS or something is shady. That’s how it looks to me, anyway.

Perception is greater than reality. I doubt anything shady went on, but that doesn’t even matter right now. DFS already has many perception issues and doesn’t need one like this that calls the integrity of the entire industry into question.

Seems to me that both sites are hoping they can do nothing and it will all go away. Maybe they are right, but I seriously doubt it.
