So DK tweeted out millionaire maker ownership here http://playbook.draftkings.com/nfl/millionaire-maker-percent-owned-week-3/ which as of 230pm still includes ownership data for games that have not yet started. IMO this is a big leak and should never happen. It also seems like something that your average analyst should probably not have access too, and able to tell his buddies who is owned and who the best players have. Hey did you know that CSURAM has Randall Cobb going late? Given that they can access the macro results it seems probable they can access specific users during and/or before contests start.

They definitely should no be sharing it publicly, if they’re going to do it just list the full rosters in the contest and call it a day.

    Moderation Note

Stevie and I just did a call and restored quite a few posts from a deleted state. We have a number of mods on the team that all do a great job. Every once in a while a situation like this comes along that gets a bit crazy, though. I’m able to pop in on this thread often but have a full time job keeping me busy. At different times different people are moderating and making different decision. Stevie and I will try to be more present and consistent going forward.

Good call on restoring deleted posts.

We are all here because we love DFS.
If there is cheating is in the best interest of DK, FD and RG for it to be caught and for measures to be put in place.

As far as the FD and DK press release.
Maybe that is all we are going to get.
Maybe they are looking deeper and making absolutely sure they have all the facts before they issue a more detailed statement.

As far as the employees having access.
I don’t think that is completely fixable. I believe they need read/write access to run the sites.
But they should have a code of ethics and be unable to play on all sites.

Why are you deleting posts that are simply mentioning the fact that you are deleting posts? I get you are trying to keep things high-level, but you are likely making matters worse. It is relevant to point out RG’s role in this debate and how it is being handled at all levels. By deleting posts that are not offensive you are tailoring the discussion.

There’s 28 pages of posts and counting. If we delete one saying “Ethan is a punk” we’re not going to leave another one up saying “why did you delete the post saying Ethan is a punk?”

I understand moderation is a sensitive subject. I don’t think you can read these 28 pages and say we’re trying to tailor a conversation. There have definitely been moderation mistakes made, though.

There is some misinformation being spread around as “fact” about how lucky one has to be to win 4 grand slams in 37 days. It’s unlikely, but not nearly as unlikely as “1 in millions”.

There are about 12000 entries in a FD grand slam. If you put in 120 lineups and everyone was exactly the same skill level, you’d have a 1% chance of winning the tournament. I’m sure Ethan had less than 120 lineups, but I’m also sure Ethan is better than the average DFS player, so let’s just call that a wash and say he has a 1% on any given day (it makes the maths easier in any case).

That means if he played 100 days in a row he could expect to win the entire tournament at least once, and in fact, his chances of winning at least once in 37 days is 1 minus the chance he doesn’t win in 37 days, or 1 – .99^37, or 31%.

The chances he wins 4 times in 37 days is then at least somewhat comparable to .31^4 or .92% (around 1 in 110). (This isn’t the exact percentage—the actual percentage is much more involved to calculate, but it’s a close enough approximation for our purposes.)

We all concede that 1% is a really high percent chance to place on all these calculations, but anyone who is up in arms about “1 in millions” being “proof” that something fishy is going on, should re-evaluate that as part of their damning evidence.

Riley as much as I like what you say in your post, it has to be in the back of your head that a someone like Ethan will be the downfall of DFS and hence Rotogrinders will go down with it. All that you have worked for will be completely gone.No more sponsorship money, no more 1k viewers for grinders live, no more incentives money, no Serious XM show. You cannot be this naive to think he can randomly win 4 slams in a span of 37 days, just by pure luck. It wasn’t if cheating will happen in DFS but when. And our resident slime ball Ethan is eventually going to run away with hundreds of thousands of dollars with zero re-precautions while regular ole players and people like you who have built businesses around DFS are left with the bag of shit.

  • NCRick

What percent of all the entries are from insiders? If this guy is doing 120 entries, is he the only one? Are 10% of all the entries from pros with extra information? I cant imagine these guys not sharing the information with friends/family either. How many of the employees have access to the info? Was this guy even in IT? Do they all have access?

I really don’t understand why the people who for years preached about “growing DFS” and those who were so outspoken are silent about this. I know there have been some that have been posting on this thread but on Twitter it’s basically DraftCheat calling everyone out. This is a huge black eye on the community and RG/FD/DK are sweeping it under the rug. PLAY A FREE ROLL! TRUST US!

We’re not sweeping it under the rug. I’m eagerly awaiting a statement from DraftKings, especially after I posted about my conversation with Kalish on on Saturday saying a statement was coming today.

There is a real issue at the heart of this. I hate seeing the irrationality from some users around this issue, though. At this point I accept that it isn’t going to stop until we hear more from DK.

    So where is Ethan??

He comes on here all the time and addresses issues.

This time he’s seemingly in the middle of the issue, and he’s absent…..(crickets)

Where did the post go that mentioned the coincidence that Aaron Da King, who is from Massachusetts opened a DK account on Sunday (a couple weeks ago), entered a single bullet ,and ended up winning 250k & is followed on twitter by quite a few of the names that have been mentioned throughout this thread. The post said they weren’t accusing anyone of anything but thought it was an interesting coin incidence. The post included a link to Aaron DA Kings twitter profile, etc. Maybe I am overlooking something but I can’t seem to find the original post referencing aaron da king.

I don’t know why this one was deleted, but it is one that Stevie and I restored on our call.

I do strongly disagree with the witch hunting sentiment in that thread, and the mod must have as well, but I don’t think it should be deleted.

I see a black Friday for DFS on the horizon. Its inherent for nerds to sit behind a computer and cheat to win if they have the talent to do so. It’s funny how RG defends the industry every single time shit like this happens. I’m sure Dan got the call to do this podcast to defend their sponsors and he did so like the good employee he is. This is just another doubt in a lot of DFS players eyes on how fair or unfair DFS really is.

There’s no way I’m going back in this thread to read said deleted posts lol because I left for four hours and there was 7 plus pages and by the time I got back. This whole issue is exhausting to read that much if you don’t stay up to date… I can imagine trying to moderate it. I guess the over exposure is leading to what all over exposure does….. A desensitized view of the issue, This is exhausting though dealing with this many people’s emotions even if it is on a thread.

The NY Times just picked up this story. Wow! Can’t link to the article since I’m on my phone and I saw the article in the nytimes app but this is bad. Mainstream news is picking up the story now….

Edit: hope this link works – http://nyti.ms/1LcSdTy

Per the story, employees on both FD and DK are banned from playing on any site.

  • QQSTUKIE

The community is all we have now to police this type of thing, we however must not forget that RG is paid a large sum of money from the sites.

They are walking a fine line right now, I don’t blame them for over modding this thread! I would have deleted it and acted as if this never happened. And demanded a 1st place lineup next week!
