So DK tweeted out millionaire maker ownership here http://playbook.draftkings.com/nfl/millionaire-maker-percent-owned-week-3/ which as of 230pm still includes ownership data for games that have not yet started. IMO this is a big leak and should never happen. It also seems like something that your average analyst should probably not have access too, and able to tell his buddies who is owned and who the best players have. Hey did you know that CSURAM has Randall Cobb going late? Given that they can access the macro results it seems probable they can access specific users during and/or before contests start.

They definitely should no be sharing it publicly, if they’re going to do it just list the full rosters in the contest and call it a day.

    1. I loved my time working with Ethan when he was here at RotoGrinders. I HIGHLY doubt he has cheated his way to DFS success. He was always a great player.

    2. I will not take any business’s “word on it” in matters like this. The responsibility of DraftKings and any other daily fantasy site is to be above reproach. In my opinion ANYONE who has access to ANYTHING on the backend of a daily fantasy site should sign an agreement to not play DFS elsewhere. It’s the only way to ensure integrity.

(i.e. Smizzle, CSU, etc are good to play there because their relationship is purely promotional.)

Didn’t CSU have access to this same type of data when he was a Starstreet employee? Or could have had access to it?

So Top 50 Grinder and Top 10 TPOY player PetrGibbons is a Fanduel employee who sets the pricing for FD.

He became a Top 50 grinder and a TPOY top 10 in only 5 months playing almost every sport at an elite level.

    Holy shit fellas.

    On a serious note.

Props to Cal in using his connections to get an answer.

My number one allegiance has been and always will be to all of my fellow players. I have debunked tinfoil hat conspiracies on-air before, and I have spoken up since day one about issues like these with the sites. I have no agenda outside of sites being transparent and the truth being told.

This whole story stinks to the high heavens. How do we know that he didn’t share this information with other people? I’d love to see some anti-gambling agency run a TV advertisement about this case in order to jump-start some regulation…

This isn’t an Ethan issue. 100 or even a million people can tell me how great a guy he is. Does. Not. Matter. The problem is someone, anyone having access to this type of data at any point prior to final lock.

You want the government involved??? These are the type of things that will get that in a hurry.

Sad thing is without the “mistake” of posting this blog too soon none of us would have known. What else is happening?

Re: “promotional” players and sites, I have never been a fan of that idea. Anyone working for or representing a site should not be allowed to play there. This dates back to crazygabe going to draftday. Never voiced it but I have never wavered on that thought.

Complete newb to DFS. Is it worth playing anymore in this current situation?

I agree with the people saying if you work for a DFS site you should not be able to play DFS on any site. I am surprised to hear this was not commonplace already. Just having the possibility of cheating makes both of he sites look bad, and puts the public eye on more possible impropriety. There has to be rules put in place NOW that prevent any employee from any site from playing on any DFS site. Short of this will probably not be enough. If playing is really important to any employees of these sites then i guess they need to decide if a job is more important than playing.

I agree 100% with this. If you work for ANY DFS site in any capacity you are not allowed to play on ANY DFS site in any capacity.

I know Ethan well. His first job in the industry was with RotoGrinders and he actually worked out of the office with us in Nashville before moving back to Boston and taking a job with DK. I believe him, and his story follows logic, so I will stand by it.

The conspiracy theory minded crowd will probably take that as even more alarming evidence of an RG cover up, so not sure that information helps.

Kalish looked at the logs and confirmed that Ethan’s report was queried around 2 ET. Again, this is probably not going to help with the conspiracy theory minded crowd because they will think “what else would DK say?”

    Having these logs is important.

Anyone else remember the original defense against the possibility of foul play?

“Site owners have so much at stake, this could possibly be a hundred million dollar industry, they wouldn’t dream of cheating in a $25,000 GPP”.

Did that rationalization fly out the window when the first GPP hit six figures or when the first twelve dollar per hour CS rep was hired?

Fanduel doesn’t even offer players a hard copy of everyone’s lineup at lock (if you took the under in the “how long would it take DP to bring up csv export?”, you win, again).

Good point. This would help, but it is another issue altogether.

  • Putz

    @realdeals said...

I agree, but there will be employees that have access to the info. Only thing they could do is tell those that have access not to access it and hopefully have a log to see time and who does access it. We can only take their word for it or stop playing. Don’t see any other way.

Incorrect. Explain why you made this assumption, and why the site would need access to this type of data?

I know everyone has something to say about this issue, but I really think we all need to be patient for one more day. Let’s see what DK says about the matter, and then we can discuss it. We won’t allow people to run around making false accusations with no proof.

Quite frankly, as someone mentioned earlier, I don’t know why ownership percentages are not publicly displayed to everyone at all times before contests lock, then updated as entries increase. Should’ve already been that way and I hope that’s what ends up happening.

I don’t think the average DFS player even cares about percentage, so it wouldn’t really make a big difference, and the people that want to use it have it right there, and no insider knows the information before anyone else does. Never made sense to me that it’s this big secret that can’t be revealed before the contest starts.

  • traction

On another serious note, I will be curtailing my play until I feel comfortable with safeguards that are put in place. I am profitable from dfs, ableit nothing spectacular. But I’m just a small fish in this dfs pond who at this point wants some protections. Looking forward to updates tmrw

Agree, and as a counterpoint, if so important to winning GPPs, it should be under lock and key until contests are over.

I would venture to say that DFS is the fastest growing industry in America.
I would also guess that DFS is the most hated industry in America right now also.
Between people who are tired of seeing the commercials every 15 minutes – to the sports betting people who are pissed that DFS is legal and their area of expertise is not- to the poker people who feel shafted that DFS is legal and they got shut down…
In general the industry is soon to come under the most magnified of microscopes it has ever been under. I sure hope the people in charge make sure they have all this in order when this happens.
A little self policing would be nice until there is some regulation. Maybe some encryption so this issue is a moot point. And for godsakes, can we get a CSV option on FD to just put that issue to rest.

I think this is laughable. This would give “pros” a HUGE advantage and it would make doing your homework pointless. Great example, Mike Warren was a solid sleeper option yesterday in CFB, if you did your homework you knew that but was still around 11% owned. Well someone with zero knowledge comes in and says ohh why is this random Ia St running back owned at 14%? Looks him up and plays him, now the edge I had is gone. It would be a complete joke. I understand everyone gets it but to say DFS players don’t care about ownership %‘s is incredibly incorrect in my opinion.

I think you mean it would give pros less of an advantage. Those guys already know of the sleeper pick you’re talking about. It would give joe blow more of a chance, and that means more casual DFS money comes in. That’s the money the company wants. If the move to make percentages pubic knowledge is industry-wide, then pros will just adjust. They aren’t going anywhere.

And just because people know percentages of those guys you’re talking about, doesn’t mean it will pay off. Like always sometimes they’ll hit and sometimes they won’t. Those guys that go around percentage hunting rather than making their own decisions will likely find their variance about the same as it is right now.

Whatever you think of it, this type of information is going to become persistent public knowledge eventually. When Disney or some big corporation comes in to bear-hug DK or FD in a few years and they’re doing their pre-acquisition operations review, and they ask why ownership percentages are hidden, what good reason is FD/DK going to give them that ensures them that this is the best way for them to make money? Mind you, none of them care how much you or I research.

You may play less if ownership percentages are known, I would play more quite honestly, and I think most people would play more as well. Either everyone should have this information or no one should have it. And I see no way that the latter is possible.

To be fair Stevie, the last time there was a huge uproar (scripting being caught), FD & DK told us to wait for statements. Most of us backed off assuming the people scripting would be punished. Instead both sites changed their TOS to protect the big fish and to line their pockets even further so these massive tournaments could fill. I give the sites zero tolerance or trust. This has been a known issue for a week now, why wait til Monday to address it?
