Moderation Note: We feel this news is so big it needed its own thread. You can read the other thread for details about the issue.
2013 DraftStreet DSBBC Finalist
The news is already in another thread, but it certainly deserves it’s own thread. Kudos to DK, but I have to wonder. Why?
Can’t speak for them, but I’d imagine to turn a potential black eye to the DFS industry into a strong message of support for DFS customers. This is great for the goodwill of the company. Personally, I’ve played on FD, DK, and FH but there’s a good chance I’ll distributing a much larger percentage of my action to DK after this…so I’d imagine while eating liabilities is not ideal for the short term, long term the move should be good for DK and the DFS industry as a whole.
So what happens to the scumbags running FantasyHub?
Well done… On so many levels… And I’m not even a FantasyHub player.
This is a very expensive but superb PR move. I think many people will say “oh DK are just looking to improve their own PR”, which is an element here. But i think it is far bigger than that. I think they are stepping up for the industry, saving face for everyone concerned with DFS. Given the current climate this does a huge amount for the status of DK within the industry. I think they deserve all the credit in the world for honoring both the players and charities when they had absolutely zero obligation to step in. In my opinion this is as good of an outcome as we could hope for, as a DFS community, given the horrible situation left behind by Hub.
Huge props to DK.. Now I’ve never played on DK but will be giving them some business after this. Now to figure out how to transfer my fh account over to dk
Wow very smart and impressive move by the crew at Draftkings. Well played! Now how to we import our FantasyHub accounts into DK?
Beginning Thursday night, a page on DraftKings’ website will allow players impacted by the FantasyHub closure to either migrate their balance to an existing DraftKings account or create a new one.
“At that point, they’ll immediately be able to withdraw the cash that they had been waiting for,” Kalish said. “There’s not a requirement on their end. They can very quickly put a withdrawal in and get their funds out.”
I just received the notification from DK and completed the transfer. BIG UPS to DK for bailing out FH and covering their player balances! THIS IS WHY WE PLAY ON DK!
Yep got the email and the transfer was simple and immediate.
THANK YOU DK!
I’m going to post my theory from 3 weeks ago in the other thread as to maybe why:
“Honestly, it wouldn’t surprise me if one of the major players were to acquire them.
Considering DK was recently on the market, (they purchased the MMA DFS site Kountermove), it would be great PR for their image to acquire a business that helps with charity. I guess we will wait and see…Just an idea.”
Big thumbs up to Draftkings on this as they really went above and beyond to make players whole. I’m still disgusted about the whole situation and how player funds were used. Its frustrating that I’d won multiple satellites into their NBA tournament they were going to have, and I won’t see anything from that. But being able to transfer the cash balance I had over to Draftkings so easily…that’s awesome.
Thank you DK!
good call!
Ty DK, just check my email click a link and transfer funds over to DK.
Any way you slice it, this is great news for the players who were directly impacted and a genuinely nice thing to do. Yes, they get great PR, but most importantly, we the players get our money back! Thanks DK!
I don’t have money hanging at FantasyHub but 100% respect to DK for this.
As a resident of Texas, I’m glad the FantasyUp and FantasyHub scandals have narrowly avoided mass coverage. I hope DFS Players are more vigilant about where they play going forward.
There’s a website out there currently offering a 500% deposit bonus and sending out email blasts daily bragging about “MASSIVE OVERLAY.” And I still see people running to it.
I’m glad the players are taken care of here. But damn we need to hold these scumbag operators accountable and set precedents to deter this from continuing to happen.
those that disputed their deposits and got paid may now be able to get double-paid… I really don’t know what you should do if you disputed. Informing draftkings would probably be best bet.
What website is this—no need to be coy.
This move today was for the players. It is nice to see DK♛ thinking of all players.
Quick question, not sure where to ask… I’m vacationing in Vegas, should I wait until I’m back home to click through for the transfer?
I don’t want to give them pub. But the word Fury should be a hint.
Werent acquired
“According to DraftKings, a few hundred thousand dollars were owed to players and more than $100,000 was owed to charities by FantasyHub. DraftKings is not acquiring FantasyHub’s website, and no FantasyHub employee will be joining DraftKings.
“This is not an acquisition deal or an asset purchase deal,” DraftKings co-founder Matt Kalish told ESPN. “This is a very simple deal, where we’re assigning two liabilities from [FantasyHub] over to DraftKings in an effort to do the right thing for their player base, which has a nearly 80 percent overlap with our own. We never want to see our player base got through an experience that’s negative like this. What happened here was reprehensible. It is a breach of trust for these players and we share a lot of these players with them. We just didn’t think it was the right thing to do to sit on the sideline and let that happen. We had the ability to step up and do something.”“
Huge props to DK! Not only did they step up, they did so and made the process very easy! Seemless…. Can’t say enough how grateful they are thinking about the long term here and the players. They just continued my loyalty at a time when I was looking at moving more business to FD…
Thought that money was gone… Nice little bonus to get heading into Baseball.
By terminology no, but they did acquire the players’ bank accounts which was the main point. I just wanted to highlight how not everything is doom and gloom because there was silence from FantasyHub. That whole thread was a crazy witch hunt and it only took a couple weeks to play out positively.
