    Early Only NBA on FanDuel

Starting on Wednesday, March 5th, we will be running “early only” NBA contests on FanDuel for most days where any late night games are scheduled. We’ll be trying these out for the next week to see whether there’s enough interest to make them a permanent part of FanDuel. In general, the “early only” contests will include the first five games of the evening, or more if they start within an hour of the contest start time. Guaranteed tournaments for the “Early only” NBA games will initially be sized similar to those run for “Late night” schedules and will be adjusted for future days as we see how much demand there is.

These are nice for those who want to go to sleep early.

I like this idea. I usually play more volume on 5-6 game nights anyways so maybe I’ll have to checkout FD one of these days.

If only Philly was on the west coast, this would be a perfect way to fade their games every night lol.

My suggestion I believe. I like it obviously. Really don’t have to worry about the late scratch. Will be nice when teams really start tanking in Late March/Early April when there are lots of unexpected scratches.

Good move. Too bad I pulled my wad and am waiting on MLB.

Waiverwire how come you guys haven’t been running any 10$ double ups for late night and do you plan on running them for the early ones. It seems you usually have 2 5$ double ups instead. I do love the idea though and think its a great idea.

  • bmlenox

Early/late are my favorite things about baseball. Glad its made it to NBA too.

Thanks dips56! I knew we got the idea from someone on here, but couldn’t remember who.

Not sure. For now, the early games will probably run the same mix as the late games. Once we see how much interest there is, they might start to diverge.

Fanduel should have no phi game contests haha

Its a great idea especially with all the late swap complaining. I think it shows FD trying to keep people happy and playing and thats smart.

Waiverwire, you guys have to add a early game only filter. The lobby is a mess trying to find h2h opponents

Like the concept of early games but the lobby is a total mess now. Such a headache.

A simple ‘early’ filter tab should do the job if you plan on keeping these for NBA and MLB. Think that should be a quick fix.

    I’ll pass the feedback along.

Is there any reason that these are causing more lobby ugliness than ‘early only’ MLB contests or ‘Sunday only’ NFL contests did?

With both the early and normal slates going off at 7:00 there is no way to filter them in h2h games. And when users try to filter (like I did) it just leads to a lot of frustration.

It’s just much easier to have at least some sort of filter option for different slates. Not trying to beat a dead horse here but is it that much of a process to add a ‘early only’ tab? This would also help with mass registering at a given slate at a time and then move on to the next slate. And also help slightly with the organization of ‘upcoming games’.

I’m not sure yet if it’s a lot of work – just wanted to make sure I fully understood the issue. Sounds similar to MLB where we often ran ‘early only’ and ‘all’ contests that had the same start time.

Just throwing out a suggestion but you could always just have early only lock at 6:59 and then All Day lock at 7:00. I’m sure a 1 minute early lock wouldn’t be a big deal for early only since any late breaking news would be known. That would allow people to click on sort by start time and get the early games first or last. The downside would be that clicking “Next avaliable would only give you early games.

I’ve yet to play any MLB on FD so if it’s the same I get that. I’m not trying to say this is an issue. Or needs to be rectified today or tomorrow – it’s just a matter of convenience for your large player base which a simple filter would provide. For me it makes the most sense to not throw out new games in the main lobby without throwing out a way to filter them at the same time.

It’s def a issue.. I’m not playing my normal volume today simply because I don’t have the patience to deal with the lobby..

Interesting. That’s something we can do without any programming, so I’ll discuss it with the rest of the product ops team.

I can see it now…the first scratch at 6:59.30 and ………….

I noticed using the filter I can get the early games easy enough by typing in “Early” (yes it is H2H, GPPs, 50/50s but it is something)…what about if the entire slate had “Full” in the title and late slate had “Late” that would help some.

Please note – “All” is not a good naming convention because the filter pulls up a lot of stuff (Baller, Winner take All, Basketball, etc).

offering more diverse games is great and all but arent there about 50 things that should be more of a priority? I know they may cost a few bucks and wont auto make fd money but cmon, the biggest site improvement in years was done by nicslim in his extensions.

    View,

We have a lot of development priorities, but Early Only NBA was something we could run and test easily without any dev resources.

And yeah, pretty impressive work by nicslim

  • Ross

Love the early NBA idea and will be moving most of my play back to FD for this reason.
