Have been out of town for a week so maybe this has already been covered but I noticed that FanDuel has an ad at the top of their homepage saying that they will be adding golf this spring. Really happy to hear this as I was worried with the merger it may would go away.

    Props FanDuel

Here is the article for it.

Really hope this bodes well for NASCAR too. Was concerned what would happen there with merger.

Not yet, I’m really crossing my fingers for fantasy bass fishing though.

I really hope this means that FanDuel will be absorbing DK and not the other way around. I enjoy DK’s roster structure and pricing more but can’t stand their website.

I actually remember playing this on ESPN years ago. I remember they had prizes like a boat and fishing gear you could win every week.

  • tvsfrink

I remember that too. I also played WNBA, NASCAR, horses, and a bunch of other stuff I had no interest in, all in pursuit of a higher “Uber” ranking.

EDIT: Lol, this page is still up from 2001.

I’m curious of the structure, we’ll be required to select a new group of golfers for the 3rd & 4th rounds. Anyone have an idea or clue as to how this will be setup?

The regrouping side of things seems stupid. Once the cut is made then everyone will just flood to the top of the leaderboard. The only advantage you will have is if you had said player the whole four rounds. I know they are concerned about the lack of a multi sport angle. If they want to go the regrouping route then so be it, but dont make it easier on owners that had players miss the cut.

Only allow the post cut salary of players that made the cut. If I get 6/6 through I am free to reshape my roster any way I choose. If I only have 5/6 through then I’m only allowed maximum salary minus the price of the player that missed the cut. I can flip that into a 6/6 team but at a cost. Etc, etc. If you do not have enough salary remaining to field a team after the cut, you pack your bags for the week and go home. You missed the DFS cut.

Another route would be to score DFS golf as each day is an individual day. No regrouping needed. You get points for holes and positional points for each day. No points for overall tournament placing. So looking at last week the following players all get first place points. Justin Thomas, Zach Johnson, Kevin Kisner and Chez Reavie. Of course these points can’t be absurd like they are now. A modest boost is all that is needed. Eliminated any scoring that ties rounds together. All rounds under 70 etc. Draftstreet use to have “Low round of the day” and “bogey free round”.

We are still waiting for details from them, but my understanding is you are drafting two groups at the START of the tournament. A pre cut team and post cut team. This actually makes sense b/c a true redraft could be a logistical nightmare w/ weather interruptions etc…. Not sure if I’ll love it or hate it until I try it, but its certainly different.

Yeah, but couldn’t they just fix the website rather than the structure of the very formula we feel is more profitable (obviously you, me as well)? I see things talking shit about me in those Draftkings bleachers, and they think I don’t see and hear them laughing at me, but at the end of the day, I can’t play on Fan*Duel. I tried it. I get it, but it’s not within me to do the things that are required to profit on there.

I saw that. I’d feel sorry for the people who lack conviction. This sort of process would breed indecision. Also I’d hate to see some one have a team that goes 6/6 only for the second team to go 0/6.

Glad to see Fanduel adding golf but lets be real people they wayyyy overthought this. It would be beyond tilting to have the winner on your golf team for the 1st 2 days but then have to use the 2nd team for the last 2 days. I Hope DK doesn’t change to this which is most likely going to happen which sucks.

I agree with what you are saying this sort of format would almost take a lot of the fun out of the game. Honestly its pretty laughable they want to do it this way but oh well the people who play the game don’t have a say in these sites decisions.

  • TheRyanFlaherty

This seems so odd to me?
If they are in fact merging with DK, it makes virtually no sense to roll out an entirely new sport at this moment, and then on top of it, to roll it out and NOT have synchronicity with DK is even more absurd.
In theory, I prefer the sites offering unique experiences, but I don’t see the point now.
    Their decisions constantly baffle me…

I should be more excited, since I started getting into PGA more on DK, but at the rate I’m going on FD I may not have anything left in my bankroll by the time this comes around.
if the rake and crap prize structures weren’t enough, I recently have had experiences such as 21 duplicate lineups cashing in a 100 man 50/50, so I vowed to not redeposit if I go bust…it will be difficult, but I plan to keep my word.

  • swh10e

It’s hard getting 6/6 through the cut. It sounds as if we need to get 12/12 players through the cut line by drafting a pre-cut and post-cut teams.

  • LegiaWwa

So none of the 6 players on your pre-cut team can appear on your post-cut team?

  • dakimbell

I’m all for FanDuel changing golf up a little, especially since the two sites don’t merge until end of 2014. Will give FD and users 9 months or so to test the new product, if it sucks they will likely go back to DK format.

  • Kpwgamecock

Dan or Gibbs, any idea on when FD intends to release the rules and scoring for golf?

I better go get my time machine. I hope the flux capacitor still works.

The idea that this “merger” is a done deal is being a little over assumed. I think it is more likely that things fall apart than they come together. Unless they are turning this process over entirely to a mediator, I don’t see the principles at FD/DK being able to “bro man” their way through a successful merger. Especially with the amount of oversight and regulation that follows every merger. The skeletons in the closet will inherently have to come out and these companies have proven they can’t do anything right from a ‘best practice’ standpoint.

So adding golf is just FD hedging on the reality that the merger may not happen.

Would it be optimal to have the same team for both groups? or to change 2-4 players and hope to hit the low rounds each day?

  • bettntibetn

Looks like they just sent out a beta test for this weeks tournament. Here are the scoring rules.

    Double Bogey (2Bog)
    -3.5
    Triple Bogey (Or Worse) (3+Bog)
    -4.5
    Birdie (Bird)
    2.4
    Bogey (Bogey)
    -1.9
Streak Bonus (For Each Consecutive Hole Under Par) (Boost)
    0.6
    Eagle (Or Better) (Eag+)
    5
    Par (Par)
    1
Tailspin Deduction (For Each Consecutive Hole Over Par) (Slump)
    -0.6

It appears that once you pick a player, you can’t pick him for the other 2 round segment. Also, it is 2 teams of 4 golfers. 4 for rounds 1-2 and 4 for rounds 3-4. It also doesn’t show any type of win or placing bonuses.

Basically, you need to pick which days that each player is going to show up. I would think this means you would pick the not as good golfers for rounds 1-2 and then pick the proven weekend guys for rounds 3-4. Who knows, this is going to be interesting.

Is it possible to ruin something before it even exists?
