Just noticed that the rake increased on FD again ! Last week the 200k $1 NFL Dive had 235,294 entries and this week it has 238,095 entries for the same prize pool. That’s 16% rake! I’m just wondering if rake is ever going to go back down and what would it take to do so? Also if rake keeps going up, how far up is it going to go and when is it going to be unplayable for most?

Well no overlays on the MON-THUR slate so everyone more than wiling to eat the 16% rake. DK has every incentive to keep raising the rake as long as no one protests by playing less or withdrawing funds. I suspect the professional sharks come in late w/computer driven programs and fill up the multi-entry slots anyway. I usually play about $25 or a bit more on the 2-game slate, but only have one $5 double up tonite to keep the game interesting. I expect to continue to cut back my play on DK and possibly switch over to Yahoo or another site.

everything filled for MLB and NFL

    amazing

Cash game rake is 12.98% which has not increased since last week

  • pomppomp

I won’t stop playing on DK or FD but I refuse to play their “double up” contests due to the increased rake. I play 50/50 or H2H only for cash games.

Did the double up’s rake increase? I did not see any increase in those

  • Horseplayer1975

It appears that only Guaranteed contests have increased the rake. All H2H’s, 50/50s and non-Guaranteed tourneys are still at 10%

Maybe they will bring the SNF game back in a few weeks (Falcons at Patriots in Week 7 looks like a good one) and increase rake again, while everyone is happy that the SNF game is back.

    Sounds about right.

The explanations from DK people on Twitter are nonsensical, by the way.

Speak with your money and take it to DraftKings.

Then realize DraftKings took off the Sunday Night game from the NFL slate and speak with your money again and take it to back to FanDuel.

Then realize FanDuel has kicker and speak with your money and take your action back to DraftKings.

Or if everyone would take their money to YAHOO we could get some nice PHAT GPP pools over there

Greed is taking over DFS. The same way greed took over online poker few years ago and thats dieing more and more each year the numbers go down, Same thing will happen to DFS, There still will be enough degens though to keep it going and the sites no that.

    Yahoo’s interface is so horrid.

I am rooting for them and play over there but I prefer contests without the Monday Night game and searching and entering players is annoyingly buggy.

So is yahoo the alternative to DK and FD? Only been in the DFS game for about 6 months now. I’ve never played any sites other than DK, but downloaded Fantasy Draft and Yahoo recently. Going to give them both a try.

  • briski514

In regards to removing SNF being removed: Am I the only 1 who is noticing some high volume players were leading Milly Makers at end of 4pm games then get knocked out by 830p games. I noticed this last year also. I am sure the “right people “ bitched to have it removed.

I wish Yahoo would allow us in Florida to play. Makes no sense at all that Floridians can play on literally every single site except Yahoo

That would have been nice 2 weeks ago. 😂 I was sitting with $1890 before the night game thanks to Ty being high owned. Only had $120 in action.

Looks like the big DK NASCAR GPP is 17.64% rake for this coming week.

EDIT: Yeah im dumb its 14.99% lol maths

You sure? I calculated it at 14.99%.

    $8 × 18,382 = $147,056 in entry fees

    Prize pool = $125,000

    Profit = $22,056

    They take 0.14998367968665 ($22,056 / $146,056)

Your right, I divided by prize pool not entry fees. I’m an idiot. Proceed all.

Literally signing up for FantasyDraft as we speak. Draftkings has been slowly sucking the blood out of this industry for years and now Fanduel is doing the same thing. If Yahoo was smart they would take notice here and start catering to the sharp DFS crowd. Whichever site adjusts and is able to attract that player pool will be able to dominate. RIP Draftstreet.

I wish a lot of the high volume players would band together to boycott any GPP over 15% rake for a week or two or whatever it takes. They could still get all the action they could handle in H2H and higher buy-in GPP’s that have lower rake. It would just be a boycott of contests like the $20 buy-in Milly Maker, $3 buy-in Play-Action, etc. Yes, it COULD hurt their bottom line for a week or two, but the long term effect that increased rake will have on them is much worse.

  • KindGuy

It’s really funny how the DK reps on twitter will respond to any comment about the contest structures and new slate sizes but as SOON as I mention the rake, they go silent.

Right, and the rake is the MUCH bigger issue than removing the SNF game. I think Dan Back posted the graph about how much profitability changes with the smallest rake increases. Unfortunately the biggest rake tournaments are the ones that new/casual players play the most. They may not even realize how high the rake is but they will arbitrarily lose faster, think DFS is unbeatable and likely not deposit again. Not good for ANYONE.

    Exactly.

If we’re being completely honest, I’d rather have contests be extremely top heavy and have 5% rake than be flat with 15% rake.

People need to focus their attention on the rake! The biggest hindrance to profitability isn’t the contest payout structure but the damn rake! That’s how the sites make their money, and that’s how users lose it!

Who cares if there’s a winner take all if it has 2% rake? Beats having a 5% to first GPP with 15% rake.

People don’t understand fundamentally what rake is and it sucks.
