Sounds like Fanduel is making a couple of tweaks. First, they are adding a Utility spot. Second, the C and 1B spots have been merged into one C/1B position. Not sure I see the sense in doing that.

You guys crack me up! I know personally I’d rather play a second first baseman or a fourth outfielder in my utility spot over a catcher. Makes for better lineups and more fun. Combining catcher with first base is a bit funky, but makes for far superior lineup building possibilities.

As someone else observed earlier, catchers are a part of baseball. Removing the obligation to fill the least productive position in baseball will do away with a lot strategy involved in lineup construction.

Merging C with 1B wouldn’t be so bad if FD didn’t offset the lost position with the UTIL spot. In my mind that’s going allow for a lot optimized lineups. Stacking 3 great OFs and a first baseman from a single team might be easier now.

If I do play FD I may just punt the C/1B position with flavors of the week like Jeff Mathis or Manny Pina (or a fill in first baseman like Ji Man Choi or Jefrey Marte) and try to sneak in another elite bat in the UTIL position. Imagine having Jose Altuve and Robinson Cano in the same lineup, without having to settle on one of them.
