NFL contests are out, and the scoring indicates that ‘Blocked punt return touchdowns are excluded from defensive scoring’. I thought last season that they indicated this would be changed for the 2015 season? Any confirmation if they are still changing this?

  • ObiWanBonogi

Would be a bummer if they didn’t change this for the new season.

You’ve had 6 months to change these. A logical person would think rule changes would come before Week 1 contests were posted.

And they still have a kicker..why?? FD is going to continue to lose market share to DK in my opinion, can’t wait to see what DKs tournaments looks like.

They still have kickers because they’ve done many polls, and the majority of people want kickers. I don’t like them personally, but if the people want them, they’ll keep using them.

I like the kicker option. I’m definitely glad they don’t listen to you

Changing the rules after people have entered the contest?
This does not seem like a wise move unless the new rules will start week 2 or not count for the contests that are now posted?
Are you going to send out notice to every entrant stating that scoring and rules were changed.

  • 99Problems

I personally don’t like the kicker, would much rather have a flex but it won’t keep me from playing on FD.

  • Jshiffy

Some of my personal thoughts- don’t redo scoring after a contest comes out. Leave kicker, it makes it unique. And add FLEX- less overlay and more options

you guys are better than that. change the rules before contests are posted. weaksauce.

  • huitcinq

Frankly I prefer the kicker over DK’s random bonus points, though I wouldn’t be sad to see both of them go.

Very witty. Didn’t mean to hit a nerve, sorry.

Let me clarify why I like the kicker.

They are part of an NFL team. It isn’t like they’re completely irrelevant. There is strategy involved in picking a good kicker. Which teams stall in field goal range, which kickers can actually hit those field goals regularly, what are the weather conditions, wind direction?, which teams score a lot for extra points, etc. it isn’t completely random and the value changes week to week depending on the defense faced.

People don’t like kickers because they aren’t as glamorous…I get it, but these guys aren’t exempt from season long leagues so it isn’t crazy to think they should matter in daily games.

well and usually the people that hate kickers suck at picking kickers.

  • djjoeyg

    what about field goal returns?

Fan Duel, get your act together. The number one rule in Fantasy sports is………….no rule changes after game play has started. People have submitted line ups under a predetermined set of rules. You had the entire off season to update the scoring rules.

  • domdadonkey

Did LU lock in late July or something?

  • tomac

Can we stay on topic here and take the kicker discussion somewhere else?

The point here is FD had an entire offseason to make the requested rule change and didn’t do it but decided to wait until after they posted games. Ridiculous.

  • djjoeyg

“Did LU lock in late July or something?” Im glad you used the sarcasm font in your reply.

The point I was trying to make is, how is someone suppose to make a line up if they do not know the rules of the game? I know it may not sway people on what defense they pick but there has been ample time to tweak the scoring. NFL is their biggest sport, cant someone take 15 minutes to update the rules of the game?

Mind boggling how stupid some of the decisions have been lately by FD/Yahoo/DK.

We’ll make the text change in the rules in the next few days and will email users who are already registered for NFL contests to let them know. While we definitely should have posted the change before launch, making the change 50+ days before the season starts for a rule that people almost universally want changed and that nobody bases their strategy on is still preferable to waiting until Week 2.

    Well said.

I mean seriously, is it really going to change much at this point? Does anyone have the roster they filled out locked already?

Irrelevant to the discussion. “Industry leaders” giving rules an afterthought is in question here. What’s next, making PPR a full point vs. half, where do changes cross the line? Given the issues around this particular scoring feature last season, out of sight out of mind shouldn’t be the case. It also makes you wonder if they were even considering this change, hoping it would not be brought up, such as the TOS debacle where no one commented for several weeks.
