Woke up to this unfortunate gem: http://www.legalsportsreport.com/9130/fanduel-draftkings-reach-ny-settlement

Thoughts with you guys in New York.

    Statement from FanDuel

FanDuel made the following statement via a company spokesperson:
“We are announcing that as of today, FanDuel will cease offering paid contests in the state of New York per the terms of a settlement reached with the Attorney General on certain aspects of the ongoing litigation.

New York is a critical state for FanDuel. FanDuel is headquartered in Manhattan, where we employ more than 170 young smart, passionate fans who are committed to innovating and providing the best fantasy experience possible. We are proud to be one of New York’s largest startup companies, and while it is disheartening for us to restrict access to paid contests in our home state, we believe this is in the best interest of our company, the fantasy industry and our players while we continue to pursue legal clarity in New York.”

    Statement from DraftKings:

DraftKings Statement Regarding The Settlement with The New York Attorney General

“Effective today, as part of a settlement reached with the Attorney General’s office, DraftKings will stop offering paid daily fantasy sports contests in New York State.

We are an industry leader in technology, innovation and consumer protections, and we are grateful to the hundreds of thousands of New Yorkers who have enjoyed playing fantasy sports on DraftKings for the last 4 years. We will continue to work with state lawmakers to enact fantasy sports legislation so that New Yorkers can play the fantasy games they love.”

They couldn’t wait until NBA is over?

Well, I’m sunk when I go back home on my couple weekends per month. Just another reason I’ll never move back to NY.

This is a brutal blow to us here in NY. I was gearing up for the MLB season and everything…. NHL and NBA treated my like royalty and got the bankroll to a fantastic spot.

    Really shitty Monday.

Good luck to everyone else who can still enjoy the grind!

I believe so. I live 20 minutes from the PA border. When Fanduel stopped taking deposits from NY a few months back, I could drive to PA, restart my phone, and location would pick me up in PA and accepted my deposit.

This means the following for you:

    • New York is a restricted state and users located in the state will not be able to deposit funds or enter paid contests.
    • Users can withdraw their funds at anytime, as has always been the case.
    • All contests that are already live and active will continue as planned.

On FD it looks like it’s location based to me, but could be wrong.

  • sabresrock29

Really stupid that they did this in the middle of the survive the madness. So much for surviving to round 5. Couldn’t wait a week

I have a lineup entered for NBA tonight. Wonder if I’ll have to cancel it but it’s already set. I’m based in NYC

  • TheKris

I did a chat with Fanduel support regarding outstanding tickets for 3/30. He said that I may still be able to play because its not a pay contest but they’ll email me in a day or two and let me know for sure.

I wonder if any NY residents are in the FD live final for NBA and how that would be handled.

  • deactivated84892

The fact that DraftKings is involved in the settlement is extremely alarming as a Texas resident.

I’m thinking they may re-evaluate their plans to fight Texas. Which means I have to re-evaluate my plans to remain a Texas resident.

    I really hate this.

Things New Yorkers need answered ASAP, Is this Location based or Residency based? and FantasyAces, Yahoo, and other sites, where do we stand?

I was able to a few months ago when we were locked.

I would assume it still just matters where you’re physically located when entering or depositing.

    Liberal pos schiderman should die.

Location based…. if you try to enter a contest while IN NY, they restrict it, but if you leave the state, restart your phone or laptop (and subsequently the GPS/IP address) you should be fine.
