Woke up to this unfortunate gem: http://www.legalsportsreport.com/9130/fanduel-draftkings-reach-ny-settlement

Thoughts with you guys in New York.

    Statement from FanDuel

FanDuel made the following statement via a company spokesperson:
“We are announcing that as of today, FanDuel will cease offering paid contests in the state of New York per the terms of a settlement reached with the Attorney General on certain aspects of the ongoing litigation.

New York is a critical state for FanDuel. FanDuel is headquartered in Manhattan, where we employ more than 170 young smart, passionate fans who are committed to innovating and providing the best fantasy experience possible. We are proud to be one of New York’s largest startup companies, and while it is disheartening for us to restrict access to paid contests in our home state, we believe this is in the best interest of our company, the fantasy industry and our players while we continue to pursue legal clarity in New York.”

    Statement from DraftKings:

DraftKings Statement Regarding The Settlement with The New York Attorney General

“Effective today, as part of a settlement reached with the Attorney General’s office, DraftKings will stop offering paid daily fantasy sports contests in New York State.

We are an industry leader in technology, innovation and consumer protections, and we are grateful to the hundreds of thousands of New Yorkers who have enjoyed playing fantasy sports on DraftKings for the last 4 years. We will continue to work with state lawmakers to enact fantasy sports legislation so that New Yorkers can play the fantasy games they love.”

Yeah I’m on Chambers. Just got back after taking the 1:27 to Hoboken. Got off on Exchange, went towards the exit and reset the phone, put in an entry on DK, grabbed the next train back, and was able to edit lineup back in the city with zero problem.

This is absurd that people have to go through this to play DFS in 2016. Didnt this clown attorney general realize that is what people would do that live in one of the largest metropolitan areas in the WORLD would do? Anyway, hope you guys get it “legalized” by this summer……

  • chris360xx

I will be testing this theory tn

great news guys I emailed DK and they said it’s 100% location based and not residenct based, so you can enter contests if you’re in a different statemail that allows playing and if you win or cashout or whatever you can in ny or whatever its prohibited… you just can’t ENTER tournies while IN NEW YORK…major win for me living 15 min away from the border of Ct

Awesome, I prefer baseball, and nba at dk because of the late swap. I live 5 minutes from the rainbow bridge to Canada, n nice days I’ll definitely walk accross (pain in the ass to go through customs in a car sometimes, never know when they will delay you) I need the exercise anyways

We legalized DFS under the nose of the NY AG.
NJ is ez to get to for those who want to make the trip.

How long did the train from WTC to Exchange take? What does it cost? Great news.

took 4 minutes each way – $2.75 each way, but you only need to pay one way because you don’t have to pass the turnstiles in Jersey to make entries; just gotta get out from the immediate tunnel area to get reception.

  • sutogame

So basically you can reserve an entire week of entries by doing this if dk and fd start posting the bigger gpps a few days in advance LOL

  • hammersticks84

Why is it that FD and DK both use the term “paid contest” when I cannot even enter free ones. This makes no sense to me. Both sites go out of their way to say “paid contests” and there is no reason I should not be able to play a friend or play in free contests. No good answer from them on this either.

  • catmando

Has anyone figured how to pay your taxes when you win as a NY resident and are playing in NJ?

OK well thats a step I guess but personally I play with friends in free head to heads and leagues all the time and there is no reason I shouldnt be allowed to do this.

Yes please DK. I will train to Jersey to buy a weeks worth of entries. What are Sundays for w/o football anyway?

Wow…this makes me wish I still lived in NYC. Living in Buffalo I cant do anything.
Looks Like I am going to be playing on Yahoo for awhile since they are not rolled into this

  • jaspegs

My perm address is in NY but I am in school in VA right now. I tried credit card but it told me to use paypal. I changed my address to my address on paypal and tried depositing through that. I am getting this response when trying to deposit on DK. It told me this: We cannot process your transaction. Legal residents of your state/country are not eligible to participate in cash contests. We apologize for the inconvenience.

Any way to get around this?

  • mbika

NewYorker, just informed by Yahoo DFS that I will no longer be able to play Yahoo DFS after games I am currently entered in are completed.

  • ballabal

Look like this will be happening with TX in about a month. However, I live in the Houston area and can’t just drive over the line to Oklahoma. Louisiana won’t work because DFS is not allowed there. However we still have DK and Yahoo – for how long I don’t know.

BTW: In NY you all need to vote that idiot AG out of office. Since there are so many people in NY playing DFS that should make a difference. I hope the TX AG loses his trial and gets booted out of office.

  • catmando

everybody ignores the paying tax question

I can’t wait to vote him out. Unfortunately that’s not until November 2018.

Very depressed NYC DFS player here, spent the last 48 hours trying to figure out ‘work-arounds’ to these state restrictions on DFS-sites, but I have now become resigned to the fact that as long as I’m physically in NY I cannot play. The Geocomply/Solus geolocation software on these sites is very advanced. Guess I’ll leave a lil cash in my account for when I go out-of-state.

Honestly, this is such BS!!! So our NY AG is spending millions of taxpayers money on ongoing litigation to bring down DK and FD, as if this is a top issue threatening NY’ers. Obviously, we are not that stupid, like everything in politics its all about the $$$. During AG Schneiderman’s campaign to office he took over $150K at the least from gambling interests, people with ties to NY Casinos and Racetracks. This play by the AG is motivated to protect these campaign investors and to make a name for himself by being “tough on gambling”. Meanwhile he and his political snakes have no problem with ongoing corruption within their own offices and are quick to take $$$ from big casinos. This is why Americans hate the political system. Sorry had to vent……arrgghhh!!!!

A man with a plan. So if you executed this plan, you would pay zero dollars in tax and get to keep the entire 1 million for yourself?

He’s saying $0 in taxes to the city of NY and $0 in taxes to the state of NY since Florida has no state income tax.

He would still owe ~40% in taxes to the federal gov’t.

I can’t speak on whether or not what he’s saying is true about only owing state/city income tax in NY if you’ve lived in the city/state for less than 183 days even if you earned the money while residing in the state. Just clarifying what I think he means.

  • KLT8898

I also can’t deposit money outside of NY and just wrote to them asking for clarification. I got a response from DK support that stated as long as I’m a NY resident, I can’t make a deposit.

I feel for you as for location. I am nowhere near the state line so I can’t play from another state when we eventually get shut down.
I wonder if there could be a scandal with your AG. I remember reading about Spitzer a few years ago. In 2018 just remember to vote for someone against the current AG. Meanwhile, I would contact the state senator/rep in your state. At least your legislature is in session. In Texas our legislature is not in session until Jan 2017 and are only in session until May 2017. Even it it gets past the legislature, we sill have to worry about our tea party governor.
As for the TX AG, he was already under investigation for securities fraud when running for office and the dumb people still voted for him. He was indicted and will have to stand trial. Now he is under investigation for funny real estate dealings. Yes, our political system sucks.

  • BlastyBlast

If Chris Christie gets wind that players are crossing over into his state to submit lineups, he may get The Donald to build a wall around NJ to keep you out.

    Be careful.

  • adelosa

I used to get email for FD NJ Nets Freerolls all the time. Can’t they move the location check to individual contests vs. the entire site?
