Woke up to this unfortunate gem: http://www.legalsportsreport.com/9130/fanduel-draftkings-reach-ny-settlement

Thoughts with you guys in New York.

    Statement from FanDuel

FanDuel made the following statement via a company spokesperson:
“We are announcing that as of today, FanDuel will cease offering paid contests in the state of New York per the terms of a settlement reached with the Attorney General on certain aspects of the ongoing litigation.

New York is a critical state for FanDuel. FanDuel is headquartered in Manhattan, where we employ more than 170 young smart, passionate fans who are committed to innovating and providing the best fantasy experience possible. We are proud to be one of New York’s largest startup companies, and while it is disheartening for us to restrict access to paid contests in our home state, we believe this is in the best interest of our company, the fantasy industry and our players while we continue to pursue legal clarity in New York.”

    Statement from DraftKings:

DraftKings Statement Regarding The Settlement with The New York Attorney General

“Effective today, as part of a settlement reached with the Attorney General’s office, DraftKings will stop offering paid daily fantasy sports contests in New York State.

We are an industry leader in technology, innovation and consumer protections, and we are grateful to the hundreds of thousands of New Yorkers who have enjoyed playing fantasy sports on DraftKings for the last 4 years. We will continue to work with state lawmakers to enact fantasy sports legislation so that New Yorkers can play the fantasy games they love.”

MODERATION NOTE: Now more than ever, we all need our voice to be heard. Make Your Voice heard here. Please stay on topic in this thread, we understand people are mad and/or frustrated.

You know, typing “lol” after things you disagree with doesn’t make them invalid.

Just because you think the “Ethan thing” was bullshit, doesn’t mean it was.

That “Ethan thing” was a colossal screw up and put the industry under scrutiny that it’s still trying to recover from.

Just because I think? Or because that’s what the investigation proved? People overreacting and crying when things like this happen, without any facts, is the reason the industry is under scrutiny. Get the facts, then make your judgement. Throwing our accusations to justify why they weren’t profitable at dfs is why as a New yorker, I can’t play on fd or dk.

So where are these freerolls for NYers?
Saw there is a 5K freeroll on DK for opening day, can nyers enter?

What is mind boggling to me is that I can not even play free contests which with 0 money involved is NOT gambling. And I don’t mean free rolls or anything where I’m competing against the masses. I mean me and a friend playing a free head to head i created. Makes no sense.

I actually would like to practice MLB with the hopes something goes through in the summer but you can’t even access the player pool CSVs! Longer this goes on, the greater chance you find something else to do with your time and they could lose customers in the long run. I’m sure I’ll be back, but others, who knows.

100% correct. Just tried to enter a 1K and 5k MLB FREEROLL but it is disallowed. I emailed support so lets see what they have to say.

NYers are not allowed to play in freerolls is what support said. They are working for something in the next few weeks apparently but I could care less at this point.

Is it really that hard to offer the freerolls!!!!!!!!!

I don’t know if it applies in NY or not but the rules in the banned states before would allow you to play for free but couldn’t win any prizes. This is neither DK or FD fault. I am sure they are working their ass off to keep all of NY happy. Too much money there not too. A pokerstars style fun money site might benefit them in the short term.

As I’ve stated many times and asked about with no legit or sensible answer from either this board or Either company…..I cannot play even a free head to head with a buddy. And this makes no sense. No reason I should not be able to do this outside of the companies not wanting us to play without their rake. They go out of their way to use the term “paid contests” when speaking of what we can’t do but that’s bs because I cannot enter free ones. And I do not mean free rolls or anything with prizes.

    DK’s ToU states in part;

“Legal residents of Arizona, Hawaii, Iowa, Louisiana, Mississippi, Montana, Nevada, New York, and Washington (the “Excluded States”) are ineligible for prizes offered by the Website. Residents of the Excluded States are eligible to open and maintain accounts on the Website for use only in games that do not offer prizes.”

I think the problem is they haven’t figured out how to deal with the location check and allowing “excluded state” players to play the free games yet, but that is just my WAG.

  • rysportguy

It shouldn’t be hard to have the location check only show contests with no prizes if you are in a restricted location…I am not even a coder but that is a pretty simple coding fix.

can we deposit money into draftkings from out of state?

I deposited money in DK yesterday just over the border in CT, placed lineups, returned to NY, edited lineups and all went well.
    FD, not so much.

I’m a New Yorker we can still play on fantasy aces so that’s what I do for now but still hoping FD and DK come back soon because it’s hard to get enough action there right now so I wish more New Yorkers try they product so we can grow their gpps and cash games while we can’t play on FD and DK

I’m playing there now since the news, I guess the 27.50 gpp is much bigger now then I has been at 7500, with 1000 going to first.

40% of the prize pool to the top 4 places in GPP. Good times

  • catmando

Once dfs is regulated it will lead to legal and regulated gambling which in turn will be the end of DFS on a large scale. It is popular now because its a way to skill errr gamble on sports legally. If they really wanted dfs to be a game of skill they would make mostly draft style games where you can not have people all using the same players and lineups. Granted they would not make as much money thus the rise of GPP and rake and less and less of the other type games

Guys I found a free DFS site-no prizes. I haven’t played yet but I’m hoping it’s a place I can practice at until they pass legislation in NY.

Serious question, if you are gonna still play, why not play on FantasyAces?

I feel like there is another shoe to drop. I played FD and DK and they both seemed fine with moving on without NYers and leaving us behind. Before I join a 3rd site I want to see if NY has a chance at legalization for July 1st or if they go straight until Sept. In the meantime let’s see if FA can avoid getting shutdown in NY.

Anyone having issues depositing in NJ?

I usually take the Path train from WTC and get out of Exchange Pl and just enter about 50 entries with a single dummy lineup and then edit throughout the day.

Overall the last week has been rough for me and today I had to add funds to continue playing, when I tried to do that it gave me the “Restricted Location” error.
I reset my phone and everything, I was able to enter 5 contests with the funds I had left in my account, but I just couldn’t get to the adding fund page. Ultimately I just gave up after a while and went to grab lunch.

    anyone else have this issue?

What site was this? Also what method of deposit?
