    Just saw this on ESPN

“The leading daily fantasy sports operators are voluntarily suspending contests on college sports indefinitely in all states as part of a deal with the NCAA, company officials told ESPN’s David Purdum.”

Can’t prove it but somehow this is Ed O’Bannons fault.

    LOL, I agree!

  • MrMadness001

Anyone have a clue if this is a permanent thing? Is there any offshore sites that offer College Daily Fantasy sports?

  • marko8407

The hypocrisy of the NCAA is astounding sometimes. My alma mater (Purdue University) constantly has contests and advertisements involving our state’s lottery. So, if I understand this correctly, a state lottery with zero skill element is allowed to advertise and partner with college sports, but the NCAA doesn’t want a fantasy sports site to conduct a skill based game or advertise their product in conjunction with collegiate sports? Absolutely ridiculous.

Wow, man. I thought I’d be pissed, but I’m just sad. Defeated.

Well, it’s been fun, boys. I enjoyed bs-ing with y’all cfb guys here in the forum and on chat. Shout out to titanlb, bacon, chitown, mvanderk, even nickrock who I never agreed with lol, all you other guys.

This is a really sad day for me. CFB dfs was kinda my favorite thing in the entire world. Literally. That might be pathetic, but whatever, it is what it is. Also makes my only area of expertise in the entire world no longer marketable.

Oh, and btw NCAA, who do you think it was tuning in to your POS midweek MACtion games? There aren’t that many BGSU alumns. It was us. Hope your ratings eat it.

  • Heywood9855

I couldn’t agree more Khan. College DFS was my passion and now it’s gone.

  • mvanderk10

Just throwing thoughts out there…but how many people would be for a college only dfs site. To my next knowledge ncaa hasnt enforced anything or have done anything so if someone was to make a college only site how many people would participate?

I would. One of my frustrations with DK was the lack of creativity as it applied to college football. I’d have loved to see smaller, conference-based slates, versus the larger time slot slates we normally saw. Frankly I do it for fun so I wouldn’t even need to see a lot of money change hands, either. But I really liked college football DFS.

I would for sure for college basketball. I was so looking forward of playing a full season of CBB DFS from the start this coming season.

  • BabyBuster

Would be all over that… football and basketball.

  • BabyBuster

I feel the same way about CFB DFS. Watching the FSU game and CFB DFS have been my two favorite activities each weekend in the fall for years. This is really sad.

Would drive an hour to cross state border, put my picks in on my cell for an hour while sitting in the state visitor center parking lot, then make the hour drive back. Maybe catch the last 30 mins of gameday. Every Saturday. Wash/Rinse/Repeat

I hope some site hosts CFB this fall, will pour money into it.

Problem is, profitability will be way down/eliminated, same for if there was a college only site. I’m pretty sure I make a lot of my $$ off of NFL guys just wandering into CFB contests, and of course casual players. If there’s only one obscure site with cfb, it’s gonna create a pipeline of good players funneling into that site.

This is/would be internet poker all over again— the barriers to entry put up by the laws eliminated all the fish, and only kept in the people who were really motivated to play/deposit, who tend to be the better/more experienced players.

Don’t get me wrong, I’ll still play on any and every site that offers cfb next year, because I absolutely love it, but I don’t expect to make much money. How many thousands of entries in a tournament on FD/DK were just instantly disqualified because they were horrible, horrible lineups? A lot. How much did, say, the cash line get shifted down (point-wise) on GPPs and certain sizes of cash games (variably) due to the massive number of crap entries by casuals? Also a lot. Just like poker, those are gonna dry up.

And that’s all IF some site is gonna have the balls/indiscretion to go up against the NHAA (National Hypocritical Athletics Association).

  • mvanderk10

The problem with college with these sites is that it is not worth the trouble to fight, especially when they are in a legal battle over defending that dfs isn’t gambling. Fighting college and legal legislation just isn’t worth it for the amount of poor return they make from college. I find it insane how big the PGA tounaments are on draft kings with the money being thrown around.

  • eKing

My big question is, will any site have NCAA? Would really like Fantasy Feud to at least keep it, maybe it helps they are in Canada? Whichever smaller site does keep it, expect to receive a good influx in traffic and an opportunity to stand out.

  • mvanderk10

It is not hard to create a site for dfs…if dk and fanduel both dont offer college it’ll be an open market, where there is a demand there will be a need. You need a simple database…a website…and users..I can see college being offered by a smaller site.

  • theoddsmaker

Lol why on earth are we having discussions about making bootleg sites just to play college dfs? Is there something I’m missing here?

Are the big 2 dropping them for business or legal reasons? If it’s the latter what makes you think another site can have them? Fantasy Feud and Fantasy aces are great sites and offer college sports..no reason for someone in this thread with 1 year of development experience to go create a geocities dfs site – can we stay on course here guys??

NCAA forced the issue here, they’ve been threatening DK/FD for awhile.

While the NCAA will act like it won’t effect them much, it will undoubtedly effect their viewership numbers which, ironically, will effect advertisement to some degree.

Hate it for DFS players, and hoping this will hurt the NCAA long term. For anyone who hasn’t done much research on the NCAA, all you need to know is they are a VERY corrupt business that takes advantage of student athletes solely to line their own pockets — and nothing else.

Yes because giving out 1.2 in billion a year in scholarship is horrible.

FD and DK both came to agreement with the NCAA to stop offering DFS college sports. They did it for political reasons with various state AG’s and legislatures. My guess is the other smaller sites will likely follow suit unless they are just looking to carve out a niche market in the states that do not make college sports illegal under state law.

Gotchya. Why would the smaller sites not just continue offering them? It’s not like NCAA is doing any favors in return right?

Because the “no college DFS” is being written into a lot of pending state legislature/regulation. A lot of the smaller sites are fighting for any fees to be based on % of revenue and not a flat fee (they likely cannot afford a flat fee).

I totally get this and agree with everything. That said, I don’t care if the profitability marginally decreases. Part of this, at least for me, is the entertainment/challenge. I love CFB, this is a fun additional way for me to engage. Unfortunately, the NCAA has ruined this for people like me, just like the NCAA Football video game franchise.

just for shits and giggles…would your guys want draft kings layout for college football..or something like…qb…rb..rb..wr..wr..wr..skilled player (where punt return and kickoff return yards count)…X factor (any player) or fanduel layout?

Guessing the Tuesday night Buffalo vs. Bowling Green ratings will go way down….then they might not mind DFS after all since, let’s face it, $$$ controls everything

I don’t think it will have a huge effect. The ratings for those games are bigger than they should be because of sports betting. I’d guess the amount of money spent on college football DFS contests is very small compared to the amount of money bet legally and more so, illegally on college football games.

it’s why the sites were essentially willing to concede on college sports for overall political favor. College DFS just wasn’t very big, although I do think college football specifically had HUGE growth potential. The sites just never promoted college sports.
