    So what’s everyones thoughts on approaching FD Golf now that it’s up and live?

    Per their ‘Training Guide’ Page:
    -On FanDuel Golf, you draft a total of 8 golfers: 4 golfers for Rounds 1-2, and 4 different golfers for Rounds 3-4. Your entire lineup (all 8 golfers) locks at the start of Round 1.
    -Your players primarily earn points for their play in the rounds you select them for. But you also get rewarded if any of your players — regardless of the round you play them in — finish in the real-world tournament’s top 25.

    Scoring:
    Eagle = 7pts
    Birdie = 3.1pts
    Par = 0.5pts
    Bogey = -1pt
    Double Bogey or Worse = -3pts

    Consecutive holes in a row under par = 0.6pts
    Hole under par after hole over par = 0.3pts
    5+ birdies in a round = 4pts
    Bogey Free Round = 5pts

    11th-25th Finish = 5pts
    6th-10th Finish = 8pts
    2nd-5th = 12pts
    1st place = 20pts

    I played the beta and I still don’t like the set up of the rounds. Makes almost no sense and a total crap shoot.

  • Roma315

    Also I cashed because I used some punts for the late rounds but not a sound way to consistently cash.

  • WidumBoise

    Why don’t we just pick 6 golfers and accumulate points like we do on DK?

    If it aint broke, don’t figgz it FD

  • Ibleedblue1

    Seems to me you would want to punt golfers in the first part and go with chalky players you know will make the weekend in the latter half. I think…..

  • jeffro2525

    So use all of your punts early rounds and big dogs late…I mean if you draft a 3-4 guy and they miss the cut you get zero for the whole tournament…this is insane lol

    Yea can’t think of the player right now but he was chalk and missed the cut (38% owned) in the beta. So I received 0 but still cashed due to my punts doing well in the late rounds.

    I played the beta version the 1st week it was out, and went with guys in rds 3/4 that had made the cut each of the last 4 years, 3 out of 4, or had a good course history and all the guys missed the cut. That week Jason Day Dustin Johsnon Jimmy Walker Rickie Fowler all missed cut that week at Torrey Pines. Seems like maybe you want to go with the big boys early because you are not guaranteed rounds 3/4. Not every week will those guys miss the cut but it will be interesting to see the best way to approach it.

    …Waits 5 years for FanDuel to release a PGA game…They release it and it is pure garbage. I seriously hope the eventual merger doesn’t turn into that.

    I remember reading something about Fan Duel worrying about the legal ramifications of the golf format last year. Here’ what I just found. It’s google news so who knows how true it is.
    “This was done, in part, to differentiate the games but also to ensure the game complies with potential legal interpretations of the Unlawful Internet Gaming Enforcement Act of 2006, which offers unclear language in regard to daily fantasy golf and each round or each player competing in a unique competition”

    I like FD point system much better than DK, but like DK format better. Looking forward to playing. Anything new and different will be hated. Gives us golf degenerates two different tournaments to sweat. Players that win in FD will like it and other side not so much.Give it a try.

    could potentially be more crazy and difficult than dk golf just because there will probably be a lot more dead money floating around after the cut, super weird set up but could give you chances to mess around and end up in the money where you probalby have no business to

    probably also ramps up how much time i have to spend each week making golf lines

  • jeffro2525

    First week I’m going to dabble with the single entries and 3 maxes to see how it is.

    Couldn’t agree more. This format is complete garbage.

    ehh, pass – golf is hard enough picking 6 on DK – this is wacky

  • theoddsmaker

    I may be in the minority here but I like their format….hear me out…

    Having a dumpster fire of a year on traditional 6 man sal cap 4-round format:

    -I won’t feel dead in the water 4 hours into Thursday when I have some bum in solo 133rd.
    -I start off the weekend potentially with 0 MC
    -I also think there is a pretty big edge here that actually isn’t randomly picking golfers, which lets face it is what PGA dfs currently is

    Often times I see the old “it’s just randomly picking players with no skill involved” usually turns out to be the opposite. 2-game all star slates for NFL/NBA I have found to be super easy for me to exploit. Even college DFS when it was around was similar.

    I still think this will be a bit of a crap shoot, but it’s not like the DK format is some sort of ultra skill game. Look at the chalk golfer every week that wasn’t DJ. We already forget about Henrik Stenson the other week in a no cut tourney, the highest owned player who forgot to pack a bottle of Beano in his suitcase? I mean c’mon people lets get real here. This may not be the perfect PGA format but I personally welcome some sort of change in format. Maybe someday we will figure out what the perfect format is but I assure you it isn’t take 6 golfers every week and often times have absolutely nothing to root for over the weekend because of a couple bad holes by ONE golfer. Or because one golfer had to go number TWO.

    It’s all relative. It’s a zero sum game so same could be said about “dead money” after X amount of time in DK format.

    A “Pick 7, use 5” or “Pick 6 use 5” sort of format would be nice for FD instead of this, IMO. Gives you a bit of leeway in case a golfer blows up, where your team drops is lowest score (or two).

  • TheRyanFlaherty

    As a lower stakes/ low entry # player I’m intrigued by the format simply because there is the prospects of having more differentiation in lineups.
    I’ve all but stopped playing on FD due to sky high ownership percentages, and duplicate lineups from sellers/optomizers. At least in theory, the format should derail some of that, especially in a sport which may not have as much analysis or popularity to begin with.

    I do see where the crapshoot nature could be a negative for higher stakes players. I wouldn’t feel all that good about dumping a lot of money into this format, or playing cash games.

    The format also is a bit different from the Beta. There weren’t scores for finishing position in the Beta. So even people that played in that have to rethink their strategy a bit.

  • theoddsmaker

    anyone know if you get the top 25 bonus for BOTH rounds? So If you have Rory both segments and he wins do you get just 25 bonus or 25 + 25 = 50?

    edit: nevermind you can’t take a guy twice

  • wahoolady

    Now that FD has addressed all of the complaints about not providing golf contests, people are complaining about the format. Why don’t we try this format for at least a week or 2 before judging?

  • mellofellowsu

    Probably a good chance this $3 GPP won’t fill.

  • noddy

    If I win the $3 GPP I’m going to love this format

    None of the contests look like they will be anywhere near filling.

  • moonshiner

    The pricing is so soft . This seems very strange how they did this

  • Slimdalineman

    I was under the impression you only scored in rounds 1-2 with those golfers you chose, and likewise with rounds 3-4. It appears they are all scoring in the 1st round so far. Is the round picking only for placement points after 2nd round and golfers selected 3-4 get placement points overall?
