    So what’s everyones thoughts on approaching FD Golf now that it’s up and live?

    Per their ‘Training Guide’ Page:
    -On FanDuel Golf, you draft a total of 8 golfers: 4 golfers for Rounds 1-2, and 4 different golfers for Rounds 3-4. Your entire lineup (all 8 golfers) locks at the start of Round 1.
    -Your players primarily earn points for their play in the rounds you select them for. But you also get rewarded if any of your players — regardless of the round you play them in — finish in the real-world tournament’s top 25.

    Scoring:
    Eagle = 7pts
    Birdie = 3.1pts
    Par = 0.5pts
    Bogey = -1pt
    Double Bogey or Worse = -3pts

    Consecutive holes in a row under par = 0.6pts
    Hole under par after hole over par = 0.3pts
    5+ birdies in a round = 4pts
    Bogey Free Round = 5pts

    11th-25th Finish = 5pts
    6th-10th Finish = 8pts
    2nd-5th = 12pts
    1st place = 20pts

    Can anyone tell me how many combinations of lineups you can make from a set of 8 golfers? Basically if I make a lineup, how many different lineups can I make from that original team? I’m sure there is a fairly simple formula for that, but I am 20+ years removed from algebra class.

    I was under the impression you only scored in rounds 1-2 with those golfers you chose, and likewise with rounds 3-4. It appears they are all scoring in the 1st round so far. Is the round picking only for placement points after 2nd round and golfers selected 3-4 get placement points overall?

    Yeah that’s what I expected too. Wondering if it’s a mistake?

    Looks like it was a glitch..appears to be corrected

    I think Ive played PGA 1 time maybe on DK. I played FD this week and so far so good. My strategy was, put my studs on rds 3-4 knowing they had a > 75% of making the cut. I also put a few cheap guys in rds 3-4 with a good course history and a history of heating up in day 3 & 4. For the RDs 1-2 guys I used a few guys known for starting hot and fading. We’ll see how it works out.

    I can’t tell for sure but the GPPs on FD seem very soft this week. Ownership for rounds 3-4 is way more spread out than what I thought would be optimal. Happy to have 50% exposure to Stetson, day, and mcilroy across 65 entries compared to no more than 35% ownership for the field. I only had a pool of about 15 golfers to choose for rounds 3-4.

    Pieters was the 6th or 7th favorite in Vegas at 40/1 and priced about 77th on FD…so like a 300/1 golfer. +10 and counting dumpster fire of a MC.

    So yep….the dumpster fire that is pga dfs is still unplayable in FD’s new format. PGA is at least a fun way to provide some tax relief on the winnings of more skill based sports.

    Turbo Tax should actually include ‘PGA dfs entry fees’ in the charitable donations section.

    I think a lot of people are going with that strategy.

    I went with a lot of safe picks, guys that hit a lot of GIR, have a low putt per round count, good at getting out of the rough. Seems to be working so far.

    It will be very interesting to see how much, or how little, things change with rounds 3-4 starting.

    still tough to wrap my head around it, obviously some guys will have round 1-2 splits vs. round 3-4 splits. but truly you’re looking to capture the biggest rounds from the guys in favorable spots to win

    i moved a lot of my grillo from round 3-4 to round 1-2 just by chance because i thought he might have a strong non zero chance of missing the cut, but i probably grabbed his two best rounds this tournament by a mile

    like that i have to roster 8 golfers for more exposure, but probably merit to spending more lineups limiting exposure and taking guys u believe will make the cut no matter what and placing them in either round across your lineups to maximize the chances of picking up their bigger scoring rounds. also think punting will be viable on FD in certain situations, but punting to fit maximal studs who may have better rounds in 1-2 than 3-4 seems risky even if studs all make the cut (or don’t like my 50+% stenson ownership)

    just think there are a lot of strategies here, but at the end of day will still come down to picking guys that play 4 rounds and trying to capture their biggest rounds in some manner

    to follow up some of that with an example, playing kisner some round 3-4 like i did is great and all considering his chances of winning, but missing out on the monster -5 or 6 on his last 9 holes today seems more wasteful than having him alive for making the cut. if that makes sense

    EDIT: not a huge fan of the format, but the strategy and potential ownership chances you can take seem pretty cool

    I agree that is more about capturing huge rounds then it is ultimately about who wins the tournament.

    In this big $3 tournament alone on FD it looks like half the field doesn’t have 4 golfers with Stenson: 35% and Pieters: 15%

    Even if you have a Molinari, Fitzpatrick, Grillo or Glover you’ve probably missed their best rounds. Maybe they only get you 20 more points. Even guys like Wes Bryan can blow up and you get 10-15 points from them because of all the bogies.

    It seems more like you need to have 4 golfers out of 8 that get you 50 points. I would imagine the cash line ends up being around 300 points. To win you’ll obviously need way more then that but it will be interesting to look at the data at the end of this and adjust strategy for next week.

    will also pile on that may make sense to fade a lot of high owned round 3-4 guys or take the lowest owned of the studs

    or if you expect high ownership in 3/4 and you still like them, take your chances in 1-2 and run cheaper guys in 3-4 that are far lower owned and still have a chance to win

    I had 1 guy miss the cut in all my line ups both the ones I made myself and the ones I used the line up builder on. Not sure what that means other than I’m not good at golf. T pieters sucks. But I’m excited to learn golf because you get 4 days of action !!!

    I love fantasy golf. but dont find the scoring on FD enjoyable at all. I may profit this week, but blah as a game quality goes.

  • jstevens2k11

    I entered a decent amount of lineups and played with all sorts of variations. In the end I definitely like DK > FD PGA, I might play a lineup or two on FD but thatll be it. Adds too much more luck. Next question will be how much smaller will their next contests be? Lots of overlay this weekend..

  • Shlune

    fanduel blew it on this format imo, dfs golf is my fav sport to play and the new format was just not as enjoyable to follow……….maybe it will get better as i learn more about it (and no i didnt lose this week and im sour)…..it just seemed to take the fun out of some of the best sweats like ur guys making the cut and stuff…..i just had trouble really knowing how i was doing and where my lineup could go one direction or another as i was following it like im used to on dk
