Two-tiered experienced player designation system starting today and beginner-only games launching tomorrow. Full story here.

They should have done it much differently. Instead of just having badges, which allow the fish to get picked off much easier, they should have introduced tiers in which you appear in the H2H lobbies. Of course, you have the option if you’re in Tier 1 and 2 to be seen by all. Below would be my suggestion, with Tier 1 being those brand new and Tier 5 being veterans, however which way that is designated.

Tier 1 can see 1-3 in the H2H lobby
Tier 2 can see 1-4 in the H2H lobby
Tier 3 can see 1-5 in the H2H lobby
Tier 4 can see 2-5 in the H2H lobby
Tier 5 can see 3-5 in the H2H lobby

Dan nailed it though, ““But the problem that we’re running into, and it’s certainly rearing its head here in baseball, is that if you go to a head-to-head lobby now and you look at the class designation and the experience badges of everyone in the head-to-heads, just about every single one of those players are experienced. And basically what happens is, the moment somebody who’s not an experienced player posts a game, they’re the ones who stand out. It’s exposing the new players. Who do you think is going to be targeted?”

It’s not going to help as far as head to head’s. If a new user posts a game, they will get scooped quicker now with no badge. It was a better system not showing wins at all, in my opinion. Looking at the Head to Heads at this moment, every single person has the same symbol except one person.

But that helps those who might otherwise pick Head to Heads decide not to because they couldn’t avoid facing an “experience” player. Those same contests were posted prior to experience badges, and in that scenario the new or less experienced players wouldn’t have known that they actually couldn’t avoid facing someone with a lot of experience.

Those who play head to heads regularly likely recognize names of the common users anyway, and I’m fairly certain new players had their head to heads scooped immediately before badges were implemented.

It also potentially gives the wrong/negative impression to newer players…They may see the number of badges and feel overwhelmed. They may wrongly assume the badge means someone’s a “pro” or a shark when it just means they have experience which doesn’t always correlate to being a winning player.

I’d have to ask some new players to know for sure, but it seems like this could have the adverse effect and create the illusion of a pool a beginner is not going want to jump in.

Also if you look at the top 10 in every tournament it is likely to be mostly experienced players, probably deterring them from playing gpps as well.

    worthless.

why is the industry so adverse to something that tracks a players gross and/or net winnings? Is it because they would then be exposing the players tax liability? Or exposing the fact that there are a HUGE number of losing players and so FEW players relatively speaking that win most of the money? Those are the only reasons I can think of why its not done.

Or what about going on win% (or cash%) by cash games and win% (or cash%) by gpp? The sites would still be able to hide the fact there is a massive gulf between winning and losing players, but still be able to expose the winning players.

“Players who have participated in more than 500 contests or won $2,500 across six or more contests will be labeled as Experienced. Players who have participated in more than 1,000 contests or won $1,000 or more in four or more contests will earn the Highly Experienced designation” They need to remove the participate part and just base it on money won or win %, you shouldn’t be in the same tier as the best players because you play alot anyone can reach 500 very quickly especially during mlb when its everyday and its easy to throw 20 1$ games in a month you apparently would go from beginner to experience.

  • tyrique730

I just look at Fanduel lobby its really worse than before now i can see why newer players would especially have a target at least before you had to check everyone name to see how many wins they had, I really think they only made it worse to be honest

  • jregger

I have never been profitable (more-or-less break even) on FD, yet I am now designated as highly experienced… ALL RIIIIGHT!!!
    /sarcasm

Definitely agree with the above points made by bhdevault and TheRyanFlaherty

  • KillaChap

I know one thing, I won’t be playing H2H’s anymore now that I know who/what I’m up against. It would be cool if I could set up a public H2H and close it to everyone who is a higher tier than I am. That way I can chose who I play against in the event I want to get ballsy and throw away $25 playing Sud or Noto.

And its actually a three tier system, not two. Not having a designation is also a tier.

  • glennantz

What a joke!!!! FD has me listed as a highly experienced player. I have been playing DFS for over 2 years in all sports and have NEVER MADE A PROFIT. This system is just stupid.

  • daves

It’s the same system as DK. They were both mandated to have these rules as part of Massachusetts and Tennessee regulations.

  • julieduke33

The problem is politicians trying to protect adults in general…this is worthless but why do we need to tell players who is experienced and who isn’t??? This is a game where we are trying to win money…it’s called competition…if you play long enough you will recognize the big players and you can avoid them…this is just another sign of the wusification of America…lets protect everyone from getting their feelings hurt…no more pointing out the honor society or valedictorians so people that don’t achieve those honors feel bad (yes this has happened)..jeezus…don’t keep, score in kids sporting events , everyone gets trophy…sorry for the rant but man up and quit crying if everything in this world isn’t handed to you…

This post wasn’t intended to rip on anyone posting here or that it’s bad to label players, I don’t care either way, but it’s just the crying that goes on by people in this country when if things don’t go their way it’s always somebody elses fault, never their own and the government should protect them…

Good news….I beta tested some stuff while I was in New York that I think is MUCH better than the simple designations we see today. Likely needed to be compliant w/ the Mass. regulations on July 1 so they HAD to get these out now….but hopefully this is just the first step and there is more to follow down the road.

  • Dpert002

Yea I like the idea but I am not sure about the implementation here. I have been playing DFS for about 5 years but I suck. So this worries me that I will probably be tagged as highly experienced and drive less experienced dfs’ers away from playing against me. Where as they should actually want to play against me.
This needs to be based on money won and money won ONLY

  • julieduke33

When FD first started when you clicked on name of player it gave total wins and total $ amount won…it wasn’t net winnings but gave you an idea how much people risked…not sure why they got rid of it but they did…my guess people complained about it..

  • DFSBaller37

The criteria they’re using to show these badges is handed to them by state regulators; neither FD nor DK have any choice in how to determine whether someone is or is not “experienced”.

Everyone suggesting they need to “change their implementation” seems not to realize that doing so would make them non-compliant with state laws in MA and TN.

  • tyrique730

Im sure the system will be better on july 1st but yea it should be based on money won or win % after 100 games , I don’t like the 500 or more contest experience deal

  • julieduke33

I guess you could be labeled in a tier system based on last years 1099 info…tier it in some fair way by $ amount won over previous year…

    Tier 1 negative $ won
    Tier 2 0- 1000 won
    Tier 3 1000-5000 won
    Tier 4 5000-25000 won
    Tier 5 25000-100k won
    Tier 6 over 100k

You yourself said, and I quote, “This is a game where we are trying to win money”. And I agree. So knowing who the winning players are is a hindrance to achieving this goal? Or does it better help one achieve that goal?

And quite frankly your long rant about the “wusification” of America is completely not applicable to this situation (or to the other more political situations you allude to, but that’s another discussion not for rotogrinders, of which I would be more than happy to debate you).

Nobody is asking for anything to be handed to them as you put it.

Apparently you didn’t read my 2nd paragraph, I purposely pointed out I wasn’t calling out anyone here…

People in this country in general are definitely asking for stuff they don’t earn but you are right this is the wrong forum for that…

I did read your 2nd paragraph. I never said you were calling anyone out.

Has anyone noticed that on the main head-to-head tab sometimes the contest will not show a player’s badge (indicating they are the lowest tier), but if you click on the contest and go to ‘entries’, you can see they do have a ‘very experienced’ badge? Not sure if this is a bug or people are finding a way around their badge being shown at the contest level.

I’m guessing a bug cuz a few times I looked amazinghappens33 didn’t have an experienced badge by his h2hs then when refreshed he did…
