I had a busy day at work and held 8 lineups in the $4.44 Tournament. I put in a dummy lineup quickly during my lunch break. Usually low priced players so I can do it quickly. I had Fedde in my dummy lineup. Get home from work busy with the family. I start messing with my lineups at 645pm. I notice I can’t change any of my lineups with .04% Fredde from Washington. I then start to panic. I contact a rep from fanduel on chat. He tell me that it was posted on the website. If a slate is suppose to start at 7pm. I would think I would have until 7pm. For the last 5 years that I have Played I have not seen a 7PM MLB slate move to a Earlier time. I know I could have put in a better dummy lineup. I know 99% of people are not affected by what happened. But Fanduel is suppose to be the working man easy straight forward game. They never should have included a game that didn’t have a set start time. Even at 645pm it showed WAS/NY 705pm start. Of course I lost all my money not alot around $40 . I am usually put a few hours a day into tinkering with lineups checking twitter etc. I talked to the representative from fanduel at 646pm and requested that they cancel my contests. He said that he couldn’t do anything and understood my frustration. After 5 min of arguing my points he disconnected the chat. The last line he said that he would document a support ticket. I wasn’t looking for a freeroll. I just wanted my lineups to be cancelled or maybe issue me some vouchers for upcoming contests. Haven’t heard anything from Fanduel and I am sure most people this didn’t affect. I saw a minimal amount of people upset on twitter. I love ROTOGRINDERS and fantasy sports. Thanks for listening to me bitch.

Your first mistake was playing on Fanduel. Bunch of Mickey Mouse operations going on over there. I remember when they were the unquestioned number 1 DFS site. It’s been all downhill since like 2013. Their founder resigned several months ago. I suggest you start playing on DK.

  • Beetlebum

    Same here.
Haven’t heard anything from FanDuel but what happened is unreal.

  • bucherpsu08

It was plastered all over their site all day long and they sent an email about the start time potentially moving up. They probably should have just excluded the game from the slate but the notice was out there.

  • bigez952

This was talked about all day about how dumb Fandeul was for including this NYY / Wash game which had a very good chance of being moved up from a 7:05 start since the game was always planned to start 30 minutes after game 1 so it never had an official start time. This had the recipe for disaster from the start and I am sure a lot of people were burned by the start time getting moved up by 20 minutes.

  • TheRyanFlaherty

FWIW The header turned out to be a lie. All day it said they’d know by 6:15 at the latest and they changed after that.
Personally I didn’t trust them af all, so I adjusted accordingly earlier in the day and warned others in the MLB thread.

One thing I am wondering now is was there ever a window to cancel entries if you wanted? Or since it was after 6:15, by the time they switched the lock time was it already in the can’t cancel entries window. That would have double sucked if you saw the switch, knew you wouldn’t have time to get to entries, and lost you’re chance to cancel.

  • jrslick920

Still no response I play on DraftKings as well. I guess no more fanduel for me.

  • Srmustangs

Just invite about 40 friends over to the site. You will make an amazing 1 dollar per person you refer and get that 40 back. Amazing how out of touch that company is. And once they offer sports betting who in their right mind would ever play there as they pillage their customers and users left and right.

    Hey all,

We know that we messed up yesterday. It was a weird situation and we recognize that we could have handled it better.

We made the decision to lock the slate early so that users wouldn’t be able to make edits after the NYY/WAS game had started. Removing the game from the entire slate was not an option because of all the entries that had already been submitted. Since all of our MLB slates have late swap, users were still able to edit their lineups up until game start for every player not on the Yanks or the Nats. If you had created a dummy lineup that included a player in that game, please contact support@fanduel.com and you will be refunded your entry fees.

In the future, we’ll likely exclude any games from slates that do not have a concrete and definitive start time. Again, we’re sorry for the mess up. Any questions, hit me or Nik up.

When I first noticed that FD had the game and DK didn’t (around 4pm ET), my first thought was that DK chickened out. But as we got closer to lock and it became evident that the WAS game was going to be much earlier than 7:05pm ET, I saw why DK was right to exclude it. Couple that with the weather in CHC, and this was a tricky slate. Perhaps not surprisingly, I did much better on FD than on DK last night, even though I had a dead Gary Sanchez in 16% of my lineups.

FD did update start time of the slate around 25 mins before it locked, but you had to refresh your page and had to be paying attention. As mentioned above, they also had a site-wide bulletin for hours ahead of time. Moral of the story: pay close attention during that last hour before lock, and if you can’t…don’t play.

    Hello,
I emailed support as you suggested (incident 180619-000578) and the answer that I got is:

“FanDuel had a site wide notification up well prior to the first game start notify user of the earlier game start. I have attached screenshot of such notifications.

For future reference, we always suggest checking your lineup 15-20 minutes prior to contest start. While we encourage all users to utilize as many resources as possible, one great resource we recommend is FanDuel Scout!”

Although I appreciate the suggestion of downloading FD Scout, which I already have and that didn’t send any notification, it doesn’t look like there is a refund in the cards for those affected, should I email someone in particular?

    Thanks for your help.

I did submit a ticket yesterday and they didn’t respond (as usual). Only had quarter LU’s in but still, it’s something I look forward to doing after work. I got an email at 6:28, saw it at 6:40 when I got home from work, and changed all of my LU’s in one shot without being able to research. I agree, you guys screwed that one up. I don’t want my money back, I only want someone there to think things through before you just make changes other than what was stated before I enter a contest. When I entered it was a 7:05 contest. If a game moved up IT should have been excluded since it was outside of the stated start time. Ignoring support tickets doesn’t make any of your customer’s want to stay with you either. When you screw up, face it head on and do what you can to correct it as soon as you can. FD is always the last to respond or decide to do anything at all, if a decision is ever made. Again, I don’t want a refund, or a freeroll, or FD points. I did what I did. I only want you guys to get better at what you think you’re the best at and customer service doesn’t even seem to be on your radar.

Did you have a dummy lineup with a player from that game? If not, I don’t see what the issue is. Seems like people are making a big stink out of a minor issue. And for the person that had a fewdead Sanchez lineups, that’s just carelessness on their part, catchers that catch a day game never play the second half of a double header.

Sure I did. But the issue isn’t with the dummy LU’s that I had in, it’s with the contest that I entered the day before. It was a 7:05 contest. 7:05 NOT 6:45. It is a minor issue for me monetarily (but not for some) and has nothing to do with little I lost. It’s the thought process and the response or lack thereof.

I know things happen but how can you guys even begin to think including this game on the slate was a good idea? How does something like this even happen? Even my wife who knows nothing about fantasy sports said why would they include this game if there’s a chance it could lock before 7. How does someone not say hey this may not be a good idea. This is what you guys do for a living.

I agree with this statement. I first heard about this potential issue at 6am when they were questioning the decision on the radio program I was listening to which was hours before game 1 even started. The 2nd game was always scheduled for 30 minutes after the end of game 1 so it was a big risk hoping for a 3+ hour game 1 which ended up not happening.

Right. And I could be wrong and I’m too lazy to check, but I’m pretty sure MLB announced that the “second game” would start at xx minutes after the end of the “first game” a month ago, when they scheduled this thing. Just a complete fail by FD to include this game and thank goodness the rep posted above that they won’t include games with variable start times any longer. These types of games only happen what, 2-3 times a season, right? Someone just wasn’t paying any attention.

Your 100% right. When the first game was suspended back in May they already announced the game will be completed Monday June 18th at 5:05 PM EST with the full game that was PPD back in May occurring 30 minutes after the completion of game 1. So they needed to play the 2nd half of that suspended game in over 90 minutes and I don’t 100% remember but I thought they were in like 6th so over 50% of the game was already played. I remember the conversation Monday morning how it was very likely unless it went into extra innings that they would be ready to start the full game before 7:05 which is what made this topic so interesting knowing it was going to blow up.

I think sochoice may have made a second account.

Blindly defending one of the major sites for an unquestionably poor decision makes no sense. FD should not have included a game with a variable start time. DFS entrants are entitled to be confident that a lock time will not occur before a game’s listed start time on the site, and FD listed the game as starting with the 7:05 games. The banner warning is irrelevant. No one should be required to check the site until the time they deem it necessary in order to adjust their lineups before lock, which in many cases could legitimately be 6:50 or 6:55.

if you think FD is only site that screws up your wrong..DK does some screwed up things as well and yahoo was worse IMO….your already paying 16 percent rake that is where i would complain if really thought it would hep

Yeah, I don’t get the FD hate from some quarters. During NBA season people were constantly bitching about the late scoring adjustments on DK, to the point of saying it ruined the experience of tracking their scores during the games. I don’t recall that being an issue on FD, and overall my experience playing there has been good.
