Title speaks for itself. This site is light years behind their competitor. (Draftkings) allows the late swap, yet fan duel does not. Why would anyone want to take the chance at getting burned with thousands of dollars by playing on shitty Fanduel?

All it takes is 1 night, (like me tonight) to get screwed over by Derrick Rose and jump ship.

Roster lock adds an extra element of strategy/game theory to the contests – one of the main reasons I prefer Fanduel. This is primarily true for football (because of the injury report)…NBA and NHL are a bit more frustrating, because guys sometimes get scratched with minor injuries out of the blue.

For MLB it doesn’t really matter either way – lineups are usually released in time.

It definitely sucks when you get burned out of nowhere though. I had Shea Weber screw up a bunch of my NHL lineups yesterday – didn’t even know he was questionable, then all of a sudden he’s out. Still, it’s worked in my favour before, and I’ve gotten ‘probable/questionable’ NFL guys at lower ownership frequently.

Late swap is the ultimate false sense of security

Using late swap properly isn’t just swapping out Rose or whoever when he gets scratched. Its requires a systematic roster building strategy that completely changes the game dynamic.

Whatever you think you gain from it, you lose back twice to those that have the time and knowledge on how to use it properly.

Its truthfully one of the worst features in the industry that only helps the top few % of players

I hate late swap as much as anyone and I play for a living. Yeah sometimes you get burned but other times you get the advantage so in the long run it all levels out. As a husband and father of two I like the fact that my work day is done at lineup lock after grinding all day trying to get as good as I can get. I play a ton more volume on FD because of this and I don’t want to have to work an extra four hours a night making sure I don’t miss anything late.

  • deactivated84892

Echoing the I prefer FanDuel’s lock sentiment.

I definitely understand the frustration against it, But I spend enough time grinding throughout the day. I like when lock is the end of the work and I can live life again.

While I’ve been burned by late scratches, Ultimately I’ve won more than I lost thanks to lock.

having no late swap is the reason i play on FD. i almost never play nba on DK because i dont want to sit by my comp all evening. these threads get recycled every time something happens post lock. you need to realize there is a sizable portion of DFS players that specifically like FD because it has 7pm lock

I hate late swap. I’ve got a wife and young children. I love being able to be done thinking about lineups at lock. The problem isn’t with the sites, it’s with the league not enforcing the teams injury reports.

This. As frustrating as it is ( I got burned by Rose, too) I have a family, teach, coach high school baseball, run an Ebay business, and I’m an avid runner. It is nice to lock and be done with it. I began playing NBA exclusively on Fanduel because I found myself tied to my phone or PC monitoring possible late scratches.
I agree the NBA injury reporting is terrible.

I don’t understand the complaints about this topic. Just switch your action over to DK man. There’s a reason FD doesn’t allow late swaps.

This. I’ve been on fanduel for 3 years and tonight I’m making my DK debut. Withdrew all my FD money. The Jimmy Butler one stung but the DRose news killed me.

Knowing the rules, putting your money up, getting burned while being fully knowledgeable that it could happen, and then griping about it while stomping your feet calling out the site with the “I’m taking my ball, and I’m going home” attitude makes you sound like a petulant child.

  • jfand30

I’ve had 4 (I think) late scratches over the past week and a half. I still don’t want to monitor news after 7 and have to worry about constructing lineups to plan for late news. Some days the late scratches are gonna benefit you and some they won’t.

I wish teams had to let you know if someone is questionable so you at least know there is a risk. The spread on Washington/Chicago was off so I figured someone on Chicago was out. Just didn’t think it would be the guy who wasn’t on the injury report.

  • ivymoose

Same reasons as most have stated. After lineups lock:

-can see ownership pct of all players
    -family time
-stop monitoring the news for new updates and enjoy the games

Poster knew what he was getting into playing on FD, guess he wanted to just come in here and whine and maybe get some sympathy??

If it hurts when you bang your head against a wall, stop banging your head against a wall. At the top of this page there are 6 sites you can choose to play on. Why people complain about a single thing that is different between sites is insane to me.

P.S. I hate Draftking because they have a ‘utility’ spot!!!! Where is a utility spot on a basketball team. That is not on the roster. Ban DK now!!!! (blue font)

I am just wondering when the news came down. I leave work at 5:30 and spend 90 minutes on my commute. When i got home and checked the lineup scores I noticed Rose’s goose egg then heard on ESPN radio he had been a late scratch. I too had him in 30 percent of my LU’s and it put quite the damper on my hopes.

    (1) DFS has greatly increased interest in the NBA. To his credit, the new commissioner does seem to appreciate and understand this. However, as mentioned above, he needs to make much stricter rules regarding teams reporting injuries at a set time earlier in the day. Teams that do not abide by these rules should be heavily fined, not just a slap on the wrist type of fine. It needs to be a fine that hurts the owners, as the NBA coaches won’t care unless the owners are putting pressure on them to abide.

While it does suck not having late swap, you are never going to get the NBA to change lineup submission requirements. There are always going to be game time decisions, and just because fantasy players want that info in a timely manner doesn’t mean the NBA will, or should, change their rules to cater to us. And we do have the choice to play on the sites that offer us the game structure we want.

I’m sure if you had E’Twaun you were ecstatic. Funny how nobody ever starts a thread when a late scratch works in their favor.

  • feekdogg

It’s part of the game when you play on FD. That being said, there’s no bigger kick in the seeds than when you check your score the first time and see that red O next to one of your guys.

  • Aalbanese102089

I don’t understand how anyone can even complain about this. You know that going into the contest. It’s kind of like buying a truck that’s 2WD, and then when it snows, you whine and complain about not having 4WD.. It’s your decision to play on a site with no late swap, there are other options, explore them if you’re that upset about it.

  • dailyfinancialsports

My issue is more with the NBA than with Fanduel. Its absolutely ridiculous that they are not required to submit an injury report during the day from a competitive and entertainment standpoint. Practically every other sport does.

  • whodat2

Add me to the “hate the late swap” contingent. I own a restaurant and we do 85% of our business at night. No way I could compete in NBA on Draftkings. On a side note, I didn’t have Rose last night and still lost my 50/50s where he was 50% owned. Man I must suck lol.

24 points on a 4.5k salary is fine, but I wasn’t ecstatic. I believe that’s been around his production with Butler out and Rose in anyway.

First off, please do not interpret me being an a-hole by saying this, because that’s not my intention, as random scratches frustrate me as much as everyone else. I also am going to add that I haven’t read anything except the initial post because we see this thread multiple times per year whenever a higher profile player gets scratched (assuming there was one for Kawhi last week). but, here’s the deal:

if you play every night, you win some and lose some from this. i can say that one of my bests nights ever on FD was when the random Mexico City game did not get played, as it wiped out about 30% of the field. Yes, that was super lucky, but I’m fairly certain that, if you truly grind and play almost every night, this balances out over time. Also, if you’re playing cash games anyway, if it’s high profile, you can often survive it. FD has said numerous times int he last few years (and who knows, maybe they’ll decide to swap it tomorrow) that they have no intention of using late swap, because if late swap is your thing, play on sites that allow it. The D-Rose thing was annoying, but it’s one night out of 100 so far. I don’t have actual stats, but in the five years I’ve been playing, I’d say I’ve had less than ten nights where I’ve gotten hosed by a completely random late scratch… the D-Rose one (and Kawhi) one were seemingly out of nowhere, but if a player gets banged up in a game the night before, regardless of how healthy they appear to be, you need to tread lightly.

Again, sorry if I seem like a jerk. Everyone is entitled to their frustration. I just don’t think it’s fair to blame FD here when there are other products available. Even though I play on DK, I prefer FD because I don’t have to get in the doghouse by my wife when I’m constantly checking my phone all night long (she only believes I’m playing Marvel Puzzle Quest so many times, and I can only take so many poops before she gets suspicious). Set it and forget it, basically, and enjoy the free money when everyone else DNP’s and you don’t.

(With all that being said, I would anticipate about half my lineup developing food poisoning five seconds before tipoff and fielding a FD lineup of four healthy players tonight)

  • Sleepyfloyd16

I completely agree with the others that want to set their lineups and get on with their lives. Sometimes you will get burned and other times you will receive an advantage because you didn’t roster a late scratch. Last night I had Rose in 50% of my lineups and it sucked, but I’ve come to accept that happening on occasion. If you can’t accept it, then play on another site.

Daily fantasy ain’t gonna change that lol.

Exactly! say a guy sprains his ankle in the layup drill, what are the teams going to get fined because the injury wasn’t revealed for Average Joe playing DFS in Ames, Iowa.
