    Hey everyone,

Nik from the FanDuel Product team here. Wanted to let you know that we’re making some changes to our single game NBA product prior to the Conference Finals starting. Check out the new format below – we’re making this change to help with lineup variance and mitigate the number of ties, as we know they’ve been plentiful.

    New Format:
    MVP (2X Points)
    Star (1.5X Points)
    Pro (1.2X Points)
    UTIL
    UTIL

    Old Format:
    MVP (1.5X Points)
    Guard
    Forward / Center
    UTIL
    UTIL

You’ll see the new format live in our lobby today…we hope you like it and please let us know what you think of the change! And if you want to read a little more, here’s a numberFire article digging into the changes.

Good lord I wish you guys were still in Texas. :-(

I will also play less, maybe not at all, if this awful single-game Boost is all FD offers for the Conference Finals. Making the MVP 2x and adding a Star spot for 1.5x and a Pro spot for 1.2x amounts to putting lipstick on a pig, IMO. It’s still a 5-man roster that will probably still result in lots of ties that will reduce the payouts for everyone. Give me the full 9-man roster with four teams to pick from, keeping the challenge of weighing which stars to choose and finding value plays to fit them in. If FD insists on trying to force me to play this inferior format, then I will only play the GS/HOU games or not play at all. I’ll be pretty pissed off if I can’t play DFS for the Conference Finals because FD wants to force this single-game format on me. Get it together, FD, or you’re going to end up with a lot of dissatisfied customers on your hands.

(cross-posted from the NBA Playoffs, Semi Finals thread) Please read the other comments there, Nik.

The ONLY way to make this work and not have a gazillion ties is to have a 7 player roster where you are forced to drill deep to pick a couple scrubs. Nothing is worse than hitting the nuts with all 5 right players and thinking you have a pay day and sharing the top prize with 100 people. I don’t understand how these sites just don’t get it when it comes to sizing contests and creating contests. I mean we pay 15 percent in rake supposedly for game development and as the last guy said usually is just lipstick on a pig.

Please, please, please post some two game late swap contests like you had last year. These one game slates are not for everyone.

  • jfitzgan

Terrible half assed offering for 2 day slate duel. I’ll see u next season.

I think a lot of people feel that way.

  • scott33

Hey Nik, please bring back the 2 day 2 game slates, please & thx

  • superjon

Well they added a Sun-Mon slate, but the prize pools are a joke.

$4 entry with $1,000 up top.

Hi nick. I believe u started a thread a few weeks ago saying you and your team would be available to listen to feedback from your customers. It was then locked and nobody could reply which I found bizarre. Then it disappeared. Equally bizarre. I’d like to know what the hell u guys are doing. U run the same format year after year and then in conference championships this year u flip the script and change it to a game that many many people don’t like. I have played all sports daily for 6 years as many people have. We are duels loyal customers. We aren’t sharks but we keep your business running. U guys take away very popular games and replace them with utter nonsense frequently with no regard to people like me and others like me. I could go on and on about the silly stupid changes you’ve made over the last few years, specifically fazing out the middle tier players with increased rake and increased entry fees and eliminating gpp formats that give us all a shot. I’ve bitten my tongue long enough and am beyond sick of duels canned responses to my pleas. I’m sure it’s not u Nick that are making these decisions but tell your bosses they fucking suck. Thanks for listening. Hopefully.

    This thread? https://rotogrinders.com/threads/fanduel-presence-on-forum-returns-2443163?page=1#reply-2443176

The thread was simply an announcement thread. We locked it, as the intention wasn’t a Q & A thread, it was simply an announcement. You can still find it, however, in the Industry forum. We normally move locked/pinned threads off of main once we figure they have been viewed enough, to make room for upcoming topics we feel need pinned. The FD rep had nothing to do with any of it.

I stand corrected. I must have confused the dk thread asking for consumer feedback with the duel thread. I do, however, stand by everything else I stated 100%.

a couple years ago FD said legal dept deemed 1 game slates illegal..what changed in that thinking

  • jfitzgan

They appear to make it up as they go along.

Hey guys, thanks for all of the feedback. For as much as I’d like for everything to be sunshine, puppies, and skinny popsicles, ultimately that’s not as helpful so I appreciate the candid thoughts.

To be 100% clear, we’re still running the standard two-game slates for the NBA. (Although it sounds like we’ll need to take a look at sizing for them. Good to know.) We just wanted to add some extra flavor to a series like GS/HOU, which is bound to be crazy and super high-scoring. I don’t view it so much as changing around formats that people are used to – again, because we’re still running the standard ones – but more about making sure that we’re always trying new things, testing new formats out, and gauging the response.

As far as feedback, I’m available via email at nik.bonaddio@fanduel.com and on Twitter at @nikbonaddio. I welcome the ideas, feedback, and criticism – I’m here to make FanDuel a better product for you. I’m listening, we’re listening, and it’s a key part of what we decide to do moving forward.

what about the question about when did single games become legal in FD legal team eyes when before it was a no no? You seem to skip the hard questions..maybe 1st and 2nd half contest next

  • mambaland

also why does fanduel offer a 5 man $25 contest that pays $110 on main page but you can go to a different page and find 5 man $25 entry that pay $112

seems stupid to have same game with 2 diff rake structures or more stupid that people would join one and not the other except its on front page

I like it! Thanks. – The 3 layers of multipliers is a great add.

After playing some more on Sunday, my NBA Showdown format feedback is narrowing down to this currently:

    1) Proportional salaries for the players at each of the tiers to increase options
    2) Flex salary cap for showdown only (gain/lose X point for each $Y you are over/under the cap)
    3) 0.25 (?) points per minute off the bench, if a player does not start (NBA only) — stretch, but I think it works for entertainment value and diversification

  • jfitzgan

    Boost is the worst.

This is disingenuous at best, a bald-faced lie at worst. You are not still running the standard ones.
You know damn well you’ve eliminated the single-entry Assist and 3-max entry Swat, and you’ve reduced the top prizes for the Block and Dribbler from $1k to $200.

  • futoo

I really dislike boost.the only way to get lucky and win it all is to put in 150 crazy lineups.. Still no decent payouts for 2 game slates..why are you taking the fun out of your product?

  • SMmike

Single game play is not as strategic, gimmicky even, nice try but surely stick with what made you guys the company/product your customers/investors come to know, love & appreciate. Thanks! -Loyal Fanduelist
