Since when do they edit the slate of games based on weather patterns? That is absurd. Isn’t it always up to us to factor that in, regardless of the sport?

Are they doing this for NBA too?

  • ravedown

Yea that’s the response I got from support too, because it might be cancelled. Something totally new, don’t remember that ever happening in baseball when there still was a chance a game could be played, but I could be wrong.

  • emac

NBA and NHL are likely to see games in NY DC PHI postponed Fri/Sat/Sun with the major weather coming in…there were a couple occasions where DK and FD have done something similar in an extreme likelihood of a postponement.

  • djcarr

Shouldn’t it be up to us to decide whether we risk starting players from games affected by weather?

  • deactivated84892

I’d much prefer them do this proactively in a time where DFS is being challenged as game of skill.

Last thing DFS needs is a black eye from casual players complaining about losing money that an indoor sports got cancelled by weather.

It’s not a game of skill if they do some of the work for you.

Certainly no one is arguing that the “skill” in DFS is simply knowing which games are cancelled.

Why does FanDuel only have active players in the player pool? Why can’t I pick Allen Iverson? A true skill game would require players to type in the name of the player they want manually.

Why not list all 30 NBA teams each night? Oh, you picked Kevin Durant? That’s a bummer, he doesn’t play tonight. He’s just in here so the more skilled people who can find the schedule can take your money.

In baseball I remember playing against clayton Kershaw on days he wasn’t pitching isn’t this the same thing. Having pitchers that are not starting in the player pool.

I think these are simple consumer protections in an effort to avoid further controversy. I have 0 issue with it. I actually encourage. The more safe guards and efforts put in place to help the casual player the more favorable for the industry especially now.

Edit – I of course would prefer games that are actually going to be played to be included, but as of now the weather on the East Coast is very bleak… so I think they are making a judgement call based on the forecast.

Do they do this for baseball? Not for every single storm of course, but big ones?

I get them removing the 5 pm start as well it just doesn’t fit …But removing a game from a already depleted 5 game slate on a maybe seems outrageous.

Different contexts…..baseball weather affects out door games, that is something people can figure out if they want to try and have guys play through it. When you have stuff in doors, you really can’t predict what they are thinking as far as how they want to proceed and for the safety of the fans etc. Can’t compare an apple to a banana in this instance

    Outrageous? Or mildly disappointing?

That’s different because the Dodgers would actually be playing that day, therefore, potentially you could see Kershaw in relief. Is it likely? Hell no. But since he’s on the Dodgers and an active player, he has to be in the player pool. NHL back up goalies might not start, but they’re still in the player pool.

Yes, it is a basic skill to know which teams are playing and what players are in and out, both ahead of time and with little lead time. Whether it’s injury or weather related, you need some basic skills to know where to get the information and more advanced skills to determine what to do with that information, such as calculating risk to determine who to select.

Your first example is extremely absurd and unrealistic. Even if that were realistic, second order analysis should reveal 0.0 ppg for Iverson and raise an immediate flag. Second, the game was not cancelled, and it was an assumption on their end. Since the contests were posted and people entered them, I am not a fan of changing the player pool.

This is an issue on the other side when they don’t bring back active players fast enough who were previously injured. Mark the injury, don’t remove the players.

Lastly, lets say you had already entered several lineups with players from this team. Unbenounced to you, these players were removed from the FD pool and your lineups. The game never gets cancelled, and unbenounced to you, you now have an illegal lineup.

This is far from a great player protection. At least do it after it is officially postponed.

FD omitted The New York Rangers vs Carolina Hurricanes from tonights slate because of the possibility of the game being cancelled. POSSIBILITY, NOT CANCELLED. What a terrible move. They said it was because if the game was cancelled there would be a customer service nightmare. really fd? Why not omit hundreds of MLB games a season then? This makes “a game of skill” not so skillful. sickening

Agree. Good point about MLB. Their decision making over the years has been so reactionary it lacks good judgement at times.

  • Putz

    Any cancellation yet?

  • Aalbanese102089

I quit playing FD NHL over a year ago. Their salaries are sometimes questionable, they take forever to update player positions, I wasn’t a big fan of the +/- scoring. I think their NHL product is terrible. I primarily play on two other sites now. FD is junk, IMO.

  • dailysportreport

They can’t add it back in now… Any players that have already entered lineups would be at a major disadvantage. I understand that lineups can be altered, but even if the game is played, they won’t (or shouldn’t) add the players back into the pool.

On DK, the WSH game is off the slate, since it’s officially postponed, but not the Rangers game… Seems like it will be played, but who knows!

They should have never removed them in the first place.

I agree. And as much as I hate +/-, I think giving points for penalty minutes is even dumber.
