Come on. You know better than this. It’s NFL DFS. The contests will obviously fill. Also there are customers that will still just play FD only.

Proving the point that the people who will stop playing Fanduel are in the minority and not the majority as the poster I was responding to was saying. I know contests will still fill and they will have 0 issue having a successful NFL season due to this change.

DK’s website is so dark and depressing. Can’t believe people actually play there.

It can be as dark and depressing as it wants, as long as they continue to offer a bevy of player rewards that foster player engagement at every price level.
With stuff like the baseball achievements and new player rewards, the two sites aren’t even in the same class when it comes to adding value and incentive to play on be site. I’ll take that over aesthetics.

As for the actual point of the thread – I didn’t like the kicker but despite that, maybe strangely, I kind of liked it being there and appreciated that it made the sites a different experience.
The positive may be more differentiation in lu’s, which can often be an issue on FD. And personally it’s not likely to effect my play/amount of play either way on the site.

I’m not sure how I feel about this as I don’t play DK and haven’t used a flex spot. But I do think that the flex spot will reduce the ease of roster construction, which is why I prefer to play FD. I also feel that the kicker position is what made the pricing between the 2 sites drastically different (along with total cap).

  • Whacko

Like a few people have said prior in this thread, This move is a way for FD to appeal to those that never liked the Kicker.

To me it provides nothing that would make me jump from DK.
Until FD addresses the true issues on their end I’ll stay far away.

These issues have been discussed over and over on the forums and now their “idea” is to remove the Kicker.
Not the direction I was expecting but who knows FD might have something bigger in mind.

This assumes that people who favor DK were only playing FD as well so they could have the opportunity to select a kicker. I can’t imagine that would be a large % of people. Pricing and scoring is still different between the sites so people that usually play both sites probably will continue to do so.

Agreed. I wasn’t playing FD b/c they had a kicker, lol.

I like the layouts from both sites from 2015 (when I started playing). Not sure why they changed them. They worked great. I think DK is clunky now. But FD’s kinda sucks now too. I play FD more b/c I’ve won more there.

    All Kickers Lives Matter.

I am going to miss playing Justin Tucker, Robbie Gold, or Graham Gano on the days that they beast. :(

Don’t forget the money man from this past season Greg Zuerlein, that dude won me a bunch on FD last year

I will miss the K/DST stack. the thing I will miss the most is listening to people lose their shit when their kicker got 6 points and another kicker at the same price got 18 points and it cost them thousands of dollars.

On the new scoring page it says catches now worth .1 instead of .5

    When will the madness end???

When I look at the scoring system on the website it still says receptions .5. Have they not put up the new scoring system up yet? Where did you see this?

I’m still seeing 0.5 for Receptions, I think maybe you were looking at Rec Yds which are 0.1 each

Edit: Oh I see what you mean, on the promo for removing the kicker it does say 0.1 for Reception but if you look at the Rules & Scoring page it says 0.5. Probably a typo on the promo page, but that’s pretty bad to roll that out with a typo

There is obviously always going to be people that do not like a change that a site makes no matter what it is. They will be the vocal ones in a thread like this. Personally I stopped playing on Fanduel when College Basketball ended. But I think this is one change were I think a very strong majority of people would prefer a Flex player over a Kicker. Will it get me to play FanDuel again over DraftKings? No. But for those that play on FanDuel, I would venture to guess this is a welcome change for many, or they will at least grow to like it.

    Hi everyone, Nik here.

I hope you guys had a chance to see the chat I had with Dan Back about some of the things we’re launching for this year’s NFL season, but if you didn’t, please check it out.

As far as kickers, this is one we knew was going to be somewhat controversial. A vocal minority of people do really like the kicker, and we also want to be sensitive to people who are used to our format and prefer that differentiation. Still, at the end of the day, survey after survey and interview after interview, the results kept coming back that kicker was a place where most people were less confident in their lineup.

Happy to chat about it more on email or Twitter – I’m easy to find. As far all of the other stuff we’re doing..stay tuned.

Did you check your promo page for typos, as we were discussing above your ‘changes are coming’ promo about removal of the kicker lists a reception as being worth 0.1 pts whereas everything I’ve seen and heard including the rules & scoring page indicates you’re not altering your 0.5 pts per reception

Personally, I love the change. Last season I stopped playing FanDuel completely and was only on DK. Wasn’t planning on coming back. Now that the kicker has been removed for a flex, and a lot of the tournament payout structures are improving majorly I’m considering coming back. It’s probably going to depend on the prize pool for the NFL live final. If that’s competitive with DK I’ll probably be back to at least playing some on FD again.

Yep, typo. We fixed it. Or rather I yelled at someone in the marketing team to fix it. Thanks!

Were those people winning players? I would bet some good money the people who complained blamed it on the kicker and their results will be similar this year and find another reason to complain.

  • phatosas

I like the kicker, it is the reason why I preferred Fanduel over Draftkings. Paying up for Tight end, kicker and defense and focusing on 3 positions made it easy to draft. A flex position introduces a lot of variability. I wish FD kept the kicker position.

  • tonytone1908

    @Dunzor said...

Honestly for me it was less about the kicker than the need to now pick a flex. I felt I had a pretty solid edge at identifying the ideal kickers to play over the public, but having to fill an entirely open flex spot makes it much more of a crapshoot for me. I know some people will like the change, but one of the big reasons I liked playing FD over DK was not having to fill a flex slot and using my edge on kicker selection

Same here. I did pretty well picking kickers last year and the times I actually cashed were when they did well for me. Anyways, as it’s been said, just totally dumb on their part because now there is no separation between the 2 sites really other than FD’s terrible pricing most times. I usually only play the 2 to 3 game short slates anyways and I think there will actually be more ties for those slates. Maybe I’m wrong.

Long story short, I will miss the K spot. I have to do the research for my ESPN season long leagues anyways but now any slight edge i had is gone lol

Welp… that was short-lived. Although I love the kicker changing to a flex, I just saw all the main FD contests for week 1 of NFL season. HORRIBLE payout structures for all of the largest contests. 25-33% of the whole prize pool going to 1st place even in the non-million dollar contests, many of which have OVER 50% of the prize pool going to just the top 10.

Just flat-out unplayable for somebody who’s actually trying to profit.

Every single one that I would have considered playing is more top-heavy than DK’s Fantasy Football Millionaire. Playing on FD is just going to be -EV due to payout structure alone if you’re in any of their largest tournaments.

Even 500k to first in the big $9 on FD is bad.

Don’t know why we have to have these giant payouts to the top 10.

WOW! Good to finally see you. HELLO GHOSTY When FD announced that they were back on RG forums, I thought, finally… I was pumped! My DFS site is here!!!!! I could correspond with someone like all the rest of the DFS community on DK, Yahoo, Fantasy Draft and others. But you seem to be non existent for the most part. DK has a thread for questions and they actually do an awesome job of responding (whether it’s received well or not) and even changing the way they do things or add tournament’s that the popular majority of the forum wants. Yahoo takes the time to sift through and answer all of the questions and respond to concerns. You are so far behind the competition on reaching out to actual players it’s sick. Glad to see you here answering questions for the changes you made to your cash cow. No doubt what your job is now…… DK & Yahoo have made a strong case for customer retention and acquisition, where are you?
