I was comparing FD and DK’s NFL prize pool structures and am amazed at how terrible FanDuel’s are this season. For example:

$333K Kickoff 52.9% of the prize pool goes to the Top 5 entries
    $175K Rush 44.3%
    Sunday Million 40%

By comparison, the notoriously top heavy Millionaire Maker on DK is only 28.9% to the Top 5. Last week most of their GPPs were only 8-20%.

I actually won the $50K Quarter Jukebox last week on DK, and despite it only paying out 7.8% to the Top 5, I was very happy with winning $2,000 on a $0.25 entry.

    Do better FanDuel.

You have every right to enter and not enter a contest..if you don’t like Fanduel, then don’t play on the site, plain and simple. I don’t like Android phones, so I am not going to buy an Android phone.

Such an awful response. I like the site, I don’t like the payout structures. I’ve wagered $350K on their site, if they want to keep my business and others like me, they’ll change the payout structures.

I’m trying to make this issue public so people realize that they’re donating a large portion of their entry fees to a very small number of people.

Truly an awful response, but one that’s repeated ad nauseum every time someone posts a thread like this.
Agree with your point, but rest assured this issue has been made public.

It’s repeated because it is a completely true response. Everyone wants to be some renegade because they don’t like a site’s contest or prize pool…

The problem is, people complain and yet they still play on the site. So why would Fanduel ever think about changing anything?

I was strictly a FD player for years, but have decided after one week to never play NFL there again. Not because of the top-heavy payout structures on the mega-GPPs that I don’t play anyway, but because they don’t offer any cheap single entry or 3-max entry contests for NFL. If they don’t offer those for NBA like they did last season, then I’ll only play on DK for NBA, too.

  • NIN1002

You should consider Yahoo if this is a major issue for you. On the plus side (and should be appealing to you), the GPP pay outs are very flat. There is a nice prize at the top, but I wouldn’t describe the payout structure top heavy. Only 22.1% of the pool goes to top 5.

On the con side, it’s all pretty small and absolutely nothing like the size and scope of FD (total prize pool of 8K with 1K to first place in the big one). But, the pay outs are way flatter and will appeal to people who aren’t looking for the lottery score over tens of thousands of players.

I’ve complained about this as well, and I no longer play on the site. Not everyone who is disappointed with the structures complains and continues playing. I stopped late last season and don’t plan on going back this year.

  • Supersharpie

Some of FD’s prize structures are the industry standard. Take tonight’s Sac Fly…$1 entry…10x for Top 1%, 100x for Top .1%, 300x to winner.

Because there are only TWO sites with regular large prize pools. There aren’t options apart from those two.

There is nothing wrong with providing ones’ opinion about prize pool structure. Your response isn’t contributing to the discussion and is pretty out of line.

I have no idea where you got the notion that everyone wants to some renegade. There are five platforms – DK, FD, Yahoo, Fantasy Draft and Draft. Out of the five, you have DK and FD who are at least comparable in size of their operations. The others three are minor players and doubt more platforms are going to join the scene. So people play on a site due to lack of variety and choice, that does not mean as customers they should keep quiet and give no feedback.

How would Fan Duel know their flaws unless they get feedback and criticism ? At the least we have duty to be clued-up DFS players and not take any crap that comes our way. If these platforms keep on with these lop-sided payout structures, DFS will be done except for a few hard core players. Those that win big will withdraw and walk away, those that keep on losing despite beating 99% of the field will call it a day. It is not renegade, it is common sense.

Both DK and FD are pretty bad with their prize structures in the biggest GPPs, but FanDuel is worse for sure. I have significantly cut down my volume on the site. DK is reluctant to change since they think the current structure help them maximize contest size. I assume FD thinks the same way. I think there is room for FD as the smaller site to take risk and offer something different. But it seems they would prefer to keep pushing even further in the wrong direction.

Edit: And I’ll chime in to say “if you don’t like it don’t play there” is a worthless response. People complaining aren’t trying to be edgy, they’re trying to improve things. If you don’t like the thread, don’t read it!

I guess if I ever won anything I’d have a reason to complain.

The way that they’ll change the pools is if people don’t play on their sites. Less demand means product changes. One person going on a forum complaining isn’t going to do anything.

Have you noticed that FD is only hosting 1/3 of the total action in comparison to DK?

This is a DFS forum. We are here because we love to play and want the best experience possible (well most of us). I don’t understand the ultimatum response we get every time. Just don’t play, let it die.

  • wolfjb1

    Same thread every time.

OP: “Gripe by DFS player about a DFS issue posted in a forum about DFS issues, for DFS players. Oh and also, the sites do pay at least nominal attention to said forum.”

Commenters: “Stop complaining about a DFS issue. You should quit DFS instead.”

I have no complaints about 300x to the winner. The $333K Sun NFL Kickoff is $22 entry, $100K to 1st. 100,000/22 = 4,545.45. The $175K Rush is 7,207x to the winner.

    Hey all,

We really do appreciate the constructive feedback. It’s one of the ways that we hope to improve as the season goes on. As you can imagine, there is a strong correlation between the first place prize and the demand of a contest. We will continue to run these tournaments with large first place prizes, but will improve upon the other bands of payouts within. We will also make sure that if we’re running tournaments at similar price points, they’ll differ in payout structure.

The Snaps, for example, offer a variety of payout structures. One pays out 15% to first, one pays out 10% to first and one pays out 5% to first. Of course, this is only one set of contests. We will make adjustments to some of the higher entry fee contests next week to see if the demand is there. If the contests fill, we’ll keep running them. If not, we’ll think of something else.

As far as our single and limited entry inventory goes, we have a variety of contests in the lobby from $0.25-$25. If there’s a specific type of contest that you’re looking for, PM me and I’ll see if we can try to get something added for the weeks ahead. We’re looking forward to a great NFL season. Keep the (positive or negative) feedback coming.

Hopefully you can convince them to offer some more flat structures in the big prize pool tourneys.

Also unrelated to structures itself but can you PLEASE talk to your team about allowing people to download csv exports of your contests?? It is insane that we can’t view contest data and see the ownership numbers once games are live

  • madmanjayWV

CSV hasn’t ever happened, don’t c why it’s going to change anytime soon.

We really shouldn’t encourage sharks and pro level players to join Yahoo. Let them stay at FD and DK. Although I believe the 10 entry limit and smaller prizes at Yahoo will continue to keep them away. Yahoo is overlay central on most nights, and that’s one of the reasons why it’s a great place for casual players. They do have some resident sharks there, but I’m not really scared of most of them.

Did I mention that they have one dollar 20 player GPP contest in which min cash is at 30%? 6th places doubles their entry (not $1.80). The odds are slightly more in my favor compared to smaller contests at DK and FD. Just felt like throwing that out.

Draft.com is another good site. Snake draft DFS is really fun and you know you’re not competing against 20 identical / optimal lineups. I regret not joining this site sooner.

  • lineupofpeace

Don’t blame FD, blame the idiots who don’t look at anything except the buy-in and the first place prize when they decide which GPP to enter

The $1 Dive and the $3 Snap are my two favorite on FD but probably too flat for most others. Would love if FD added one more of each of the same size so I could get some extra volume in these.

  • TheFFOracle

Looks like the prize structures for week 3 have less money going to the Top 5 than last week. Thank you FanDuel!

  • snookerdoug

Yeah, the $2 Snap was good LAST week. So why did you go and change it? It was 20 Max entries with a payout structure I really liked. I was going to max enter that the rest of the season… but nooooo… You had to not only change the payout structure but now it’s 150 max entry. Only 2.5% to first? No interest in that garbage. Made me mad enough that I am opening a DraftKings account today.

sadly you have to spend you day looking at that stuff to figure it out…anyway its the rake not the payouts that should piss people off…16% is now the new normal
