Putting more emphasis on Single Entry tournaments has been a hot topic on this message board for many years. I think most agree that multi entry tournaments are great – they produce big prize pools and help attract new players. Big multi entry tournaments should always be featured at the top of the lobby, but players should also have exciting single entry or low entry cap alternatives.

We reached out to FanDuel brass to discuss a promotion focused on Single Entry and they already had something in the works. They welcomed us into the discussion and after much back and forth we landed on a promo that I think all players will love – The Single Entry Series presented by RotoGrinders.

There will be four weeks of contests. Each week will feature a different Single Entry tournament buyin level:

    Featured Contest Schedule:

    Week 1 – 6/27 to 7/3 – MLB Bunt – $1 Entry
    Week 2 – 7/4 to 7/10 – MLB Pickoff – $25 Entry
    Week 3 – 7/18 to 7/24 – MLB Single – $5 Entry
    Week 4 – 7/25 to 7/31 – MLB Blast – $50 Entry

RotoGrinders will keep a leaderboard of results for each week. There will be 9 to 11 tournaments at the featured buyin level per week but only a user’s best 4 scores will be added together for the leaderboard. You will still be able to compete even if you miss a few slates. We will award $30,000 in Leaderboard prizes over the course of the four weeks.

Each of the four weeks will produce a leaderboard winner that will win a trip to Nashville at the WFBC to compete in the Single Entry Series Championship! This four man live final features a $25,000 prize pool with $10,000 going to first.

For full details read FanDuel’s promo page here.

And here is the Single Entry Series Leaderboard on RotoGrinders. All FanDuel players will be tracked here, not just RotoGrinders members.

We’re stoked to help get a promo this big centered on Single Entry and looking forward to meeting the finalists here in Nashville!

I think you’re right. Took me a minute as well!

That being said, I have to agree with him somewhat on this. The $25 and $50 single buy ins for those 2 weeks are gonna take out a lot of the players in this contest.

For me, never played that high, but going to try the $25 series, will give it a couple days, if I can bankroll it with my results, ill go the full week, if I stick early on, ill cut my losses and move on.

Anyone else think they should have gone with a point system based on finish and not raw scores? You could have won easily on a lower scoring slate and scored lower than a mediocre finish on a high according slate.

That said, that’s a small tweak I would consider, cause this is a great ideas overall.

It definitely needs tweaking IMO. It makes the really small slates not worth it. Since a portion of the rake from those goes to the single entry series prizes, and the small slates are very unlikely to bring you one of your top 4, the overall EV for those slates is garbage. When it’s 1 dollar a pop, who cares. When it’s 25, I’ll think twice.

  • catmando

Are only RG members allowed to win..hopefully

  • Numberoneoutlaw

So every week the leader board starts over at that particular buy in? Am I reading that correctly?

Looked at the winners a little closer and basically, if you did not play last Monday, you were not going to win. You could have finished in the 500’s on the Monday slate and got the score that someone in the top 25 got the next night. No way finishing tht low should give you the same score as a top 25 finish.

That is the biggest tweak that needs to be looked at. Find a way to equalize the slates based on finish not points.

Has anyone gotten paid out yet for their week 1 leaderboard finish ? I think I finished 13th but haven’t been paid out yet.

  • tvsfrink

You aren’t sure if you finished thirteenth?

  • tvsfrink

But to answer your question, I haven’t been paid yet either. I’m sure it will be taken care of soon.

I contacted Fanduel and they said that the payouts should be credited by Wednesday, likely tomorrow.

My FD account has been credited with my additional winnings. You can find it under ‘Transaction History’.

I didn’t even know there were payouts other than for 1st, but now that I do… Does the payout change weekly? My transaction history says I got $60. I finished 14th, which should be $100 according to https://www.fanduel.com/single-entry-series?t=rotogrinders. Maybe I’m reading it wrong or it changes each week. just curious. Actually makes sense that would change since the buy in changes each week.

The payouts change each week. $60 sounds right for 14th as I got $50 for 15th.

I can understand the leaderboard points vs. total scores tweak. Definitely was something we thought about when conceiving the tournament but we wanted to make this was as simple as possible to understand the first go around. Especially since this was something open to all players on FanDuel and not just RotoGrinders members.

Also….someone above mentioned that rake from contests go toward the weekly prizes and final prizes. That is not accurate. These games are raked inline with most other tournaments in the lobby. The leaderboard and finals prizes are all added value to the prize pool. Big reason why this is such a great tournament for FD players to play in.

Good luck the rest of the week!!

100% advocate for finishing position setup as oposed to toral points. If it’s about the best single entry player the scoring should be based on where you finish as opposed to aggregated points. Take each players finishing position, add em together and the lowest score wins. That way everyone has to play as long as possible as 1 night can change the whole leader board.

  • harhabs

I agree 100%, if you do really really well on a low scoring night, it wont matter in the long run because that score will eventually not count…

Average finishing position also has pitfalls – some of these tourneys are much smaller than others, making it easier to finish higher. The most fair approach may be to average percentile finishes like we do in King of Summer. It’s more complicated to explain to new users and display but has the least scoring pitfalls. We’ll discuss this with Fanduel if we are able to run this again during NFL.

Agree… average percentile finishes certainly looks like the most fair approach…

Blast pretty darn small so if you were thinking of getting in you might want to do it early, it’s already 25% filled

  • liquidfire

$50 is pretty prohibitive to a lot of players. To have a shot you really need to play all 9 contests, that is $450.

Myself, I will play tonight and tomorrow and if I don’t at least min-cash one of them, I’ll be out. At that point i’d be $100 in, with no scores that would likely be on my final 4 teams, trying to play catch up. When it was $1 or $5 I didn’t care and was happy to play the whole week regardless of how I started.

I would hope if this goes again in the future we don’t see buy-ins that high.

  • tvsfrink

I agree…the big money players already have plenty of incentive to play every contest on every site, while us little guys have to pick and choose. It would be nice for special events like this if the buy-ins skewed lower overall. I would have liked to see $1-$3-$5-$10.

  • flip4flop

I like the $50 buy in level. Having one of the weeks be that high I think its a great thing. I normally dont go above $25 and that got a little pricey but I dont have any issues as there were two weeks of low buy ins. Looking forward to this week just hope they make the contest larger as the week goes on. Filling quick.

  • eaglezzz

I will play tonight but if I don’t cash I am out for the rest of the week. At this point in the season MLB is almost dead to me I would rather pull my money over to DK and focus on PGA and CFL until NFL season kicks off.

FanDuel is so limited right now with just MLB.

  • harrytruman3

Ugh, it filled really early. Would’ve liked having a bit more time to decide whether I wanted to buy in or not.

  • RAISEFOOOL

Coming in 2nd place for this last week really hurts. The $1,200 compensation is nice and grateful but this is going to sting for a while. Was really looking forward to a great experience in Nashville.
